A couple of weeks after the Poseidon brothers' first encounter with the Zeus twins, things really started to go wrong for them.
Percy had noticed that whenever Annabeth wasn't designing stuff for Olympus, she hung out with the Zeus kids. He barely even saw his girlfriend anymore. So he decided to take her out on a date to the beach that night.
Her excuse was the same as always. "I have to help Zeke and Carla with something." This time, however, Percy wasn't having it. They'll be fine on their own for a night, just come on!"
He dragged her to the beach, where Alex had set up a picnic for them, and sat her down. Before Percy could even start a conversation, however, Zeke burst through the treeline.
"Hey babe, a camper told me you were down here. Aren't you gonna come to my cabin and have fun?" Then he noticed Percy. "What's the idiot doing here?"
Percy expected his girlfriend to say something against that, but to his horror, she skipped up and kissed Zeke. "He dragged me down here for a picnic. I wonder why," she giggled.
"Maybe you should tell him you're going out with me now," Zeke chuckled. "It'll be a bit of a shock to him, don't you think?"
Annabeth turned and looked at Percy. "I think he's already figured it out, babe," she laughed. Percy was still seated in the same place, staring at her, just trying to keep the rage in his body buried where it couldn't hurt anyone. To Annabeth and Zeke though, it looked as if he was too stupid to understand what had just happened. They laughed and walked away, leaving Percy all alone. Or so he thought.
Alex jumped out of a tree that he'd been hiding in, and raced to his brother. Once he'd enveloped the older demigod in a hug, Percy just slumped into the new half blood's shoulder, tears rolling out of his eyes and unintelligible words out of his mouth. Soon he was able to articulate enough words to string together a sentence.
"I- I loved her, man. I went through.. literal hell, a- all just for her. AND THIS IS WHAT I GET." He sobbed. That's when Alex knew a massive part of Percy had been broken. For his hero to be crying... No. Something was terribly wrong.
So Alex would get his revenge.
He pulled his spear out and stormed towards where Annabeth and Zeke had gone, only to come into a clearing where what looked the whole camp was waiting and watching.
"See?!! He was about to attack camp! We told you!" Carla's voice rang out. Alex came to a dead stop, confused as hell.
"Yeah, Percy's down at the lake, getting ready to unleash his powers on us all!" Annabeth's voice joined in. At this, everyone looked sceptical, but then a massive tidal wave crashed into the beach, immediately followed by an earthquake.
Of course, Percy would choose that point in time to release his pent up emotions.
The campers all started to get angry, apart from Jake, the Stolls, and Pollux, Dionysus' son, who had thoughtful frowns on their faces. Always the quick thinker, Alex realised that those four had known that Percy was going to try get Annabeth's attention back, and seeing Zeke holding her would have given them a vital clue as to what was going on. Alex was about to try to appeal to them when Percy himself stumbled in.
"What's going on? Guys? Why's everyone looking at us like this, Alex?" He muttered.
It was then that the campers attacked them.
And suddenly, black smoke was everywhere, and a voice close beside Poseidon's sons whisper-shouted, "Guys! Come on!"
Percy and Alex immediately took off after the voice, weaving through the chaos that had ensued after the smoke bomb had gone off. Campers were fighting each other, everyone thinking everyone else was a son of the sea.
Once they were out of the smoke, Alex saw their saviours to be none other than the four faces he'd singled out.
"Thank the gods we got you out of there in time," Pollux said, breathing a sigh of relief. The others nodded in agreement.
"What even was that?" Jake said, wonderingly. The Stolls grinned.
"That was a smoke bomb we made for a prank later. It lasts a long time, so we were gonna set it off in the Athena cabin, and make a lot of noise but not actually do anything." Connor said.
"Then we were going to put a sign that said, We have just hidden spiders everywhere. Good luck trying to find them" Travis finished. Everyone laughed, and Percy even smiled a little.
"But what do we do now?" Alex said worriedly. "It's not as if we can just waltz back in and expect them to have calmed down or anything."
"I'm leaving. Just so you know." Percy's broken voice spoke up. Alex looked at him, nervous.
"I'm coming with you, then. Where?" He said resolutely.
Percy shrugged, clearly at a loss of what to do with himself. "Wherever. I don't really care."
All of the boys looked at him sadly, and then the four who had helped them realised they had to get back before the smoke cleared and they were missed. They quickly said their goodbyes and ran off back to the campers to pretend they had no clue what had happened.
Alex and Percy set off in the direction of New York. "Where're we going?" Percy asked quietly, not really caring.
"Olympus. I'm going to ask the gods if they can find some other use for us." Came the only reply.
Both boys were silent as they got to the outskirts of the city, and hailed a cab. What was there to say? When they reached the building, Alex tossed the driver some money and the guy drove off.
However it seemed like the boys passed some of their bad luck for the day onto him, since he immediately got stuck in about a mile long traffic jam.
The two sons of Poseidon smirked and went up in the elevator after some words with the lobby guy. Alex looked at Percy worriedly.
"You sure you'll be alright?"
Percy looked slowly up at him. "Yeah, it's chill. I'll be fine. Feel like I've been cracked in two, that's all," he smiled.
Knowing his brother was just putting on a façade, Alex shook his head but walked out of the elevator anyway.
After saying hello to the fish at the fountain Percy was at before, they soon reached their destination; the throne room.
"Ready?"
"Yeah, sure."
The boys pushed the doors open again.
