I don't own Son

Spencer had been having problems getting to his classes because of hallway traffic and the extra effort it takes him to get from place to place compared to others. So he and his mom talked to the school and his teachers about it. It was decided that Spencer would be aloud to leave each class five minutes early so that he wouldn't have to rush, or over work himself.

Since then, he's been getting to his classes on time without a problem. Except now, when he leaves his last class before lunch, he always stops, and waits outside of Ashley's class. So, they can have a few extra minutes to talk on their way to lunch.

The bell rings, end of class, lunch time.

Spencer and Ashley are talking as they head to lunch.

"How'd class go?" Spencer asks.

"Sucked." Ashley answers quickly. Then asks "Yours?"

"Blew." Responds just as quickly

They both laugh.

Then an attractive Latina girl, who isn't paying attention, runs into Spencer.

"Watch where you're walkin, estupido!" She barks, even though, she's the one who ran into him.

Spencer hates how people often seem to think that the handicapped should pay enough attention for everyone. Therefore he gets blamed when people run into him. He decides to correct her before annoys him further.

"Actually, I'm rollin' not walkin'… Bitchy and dumb, you got it all don't ya? He fires back.

The girl is even madder.

Ashley pretends to scold Spencer.

"Madison isn't a bitch!"

Madison is confused that Ashley is sticking up for her since they don't get along.

Um? Thanks Ashley.

"She's a Cheerbitch!" Ashley adds.

Spencer laughs then keeps the joke going in a mock serious manner.

"Woops… Sorry I didn't know."

"Its ok, you're new. Ash says.

They laugh as a defeated Madison storms off in a huff mumbling in Spanish.

Now at lunch, Spencer and Ashley are talking.

"You should let me drive us back to my house after school…for somethin' different…instead of me always comin' over to yours." Ashley says.

"I thought ya said I shouldn't come to your place 'cause ya didn't want me to have to deal with your Mom, and you were worried 'bout your house not bein' accessible enough for me? Spencer questions wanting to make sure he understands what Ashley is saying.

"I'm over it…Mom may not even be there, and if ya have trouble gettin' 'round we'll improvise." Ashley clarifies optimistically.

"This is gonna be fun!" Spencer says with a smile.

Moments Later

"Ya know what I just realized?" Ashley asks looking as if a light bulb has turned on in her mind.

"No, what?" Spencer answers, he's interested.

"We have so much fun talkin' to each other that I forgot to ask if your bros. had a good time at the party…Did they?" Ashley asks curiously.

"They had a blast! Clay really likes that Chelsea girl…" Spence tells her.

"That's good...me and her have never been close, but she seems cool." Ashley interjects.

"…Yeah…I think so too! Spencer says with a smile.

"What bout the pervy one, Glen?" Ashley asks jokingly.

"Ha-ha! He met a couple girls…I don't remember their names…He probably doesn't either…won't matter… he'll cover it by callin' 'em baby, honey, sexy, or somethin' like that." Spencer laughs while rolling his eyes.

"I wish I could say girls here are too smart for that shit, but they're not."

Jack and Dick walk up to their table and stop. They're looking at Spencer.

"You're a dude right?" Jack asks trying to demean Spencer.

Both boys look down at Spencer's chair.

"Half of one anyways… Dick adds.

The boys laugh, as Ashley looks at them like she wants to kill them. Spencer is trying to remain calm.

"…What's with the long girly hair?

The boys laugh again.

"'Cause you idiots, I'm donating to make wigs for people with cancer…" Spencer answers.

They've now succeeded in making him mad.

Jack suddenly looks sad.

"Oh...my grandma died of cancer."

"I bet you feel pretty stupid now huh?" Spencer quips.

Dick pats Jack on the back to let him know it'll be ok then they walk away with their heads down.

Later That day, After School; the two friends are inside Ashley's house.

"Mom, you here?" Ashley hollers. "Christine? She hollers again.

Hearing no response Ashley breathes a sigh of relief, and turns to Spencer.

"Yes, she isn't here! " She adds.

"I thought ya said she's been actin' pretty cool lately?" Spencer replies.

"She has, but it won't last, and I don't want anyone to be here when she snaps if I can help it."

By the end of that statement, Ashley has a sad look on her face, as her eyes begin to fade far away from the moment. Spencer senses the need for a change in the subject.

"Alright…Ya finally got me in your house now, what're we gonna do?" Spencer asks wondering, not knowing what to expect.

Ashley stops to think, a smile dawns on her face as an idea comes to mind, and then she says "Follow me."

Spencer follows Ashley to a stairway. The first thing Spencer notices is that there are railings on both sides which is good, but he looks at her unsure if it'd be a good idea to try to go upstairs.

"I don't know 'bout this… I'm bigger than you…if I fall, and you go down with me…you could get hurt." Spencer warns.

"Then don't fall. She laughs…Just tell me what I need to do to help ya up the steps." Ashley insists.

Spencer grabs hold of the railing with his good left hand.

"Grab the handle that's under the seat and use it to fold the walker up. He instructs.

Now that Ashley has done that, she's waiting for further instruction.

"Ok…now, I'll hang on to this rail while you take my walker to the top of the steps. Then, come back down."

Ashley begins her next task.

"Ash, wait! …I forgot one thing…"

Ashley looks at him curiously without time to reply.

"Don't forget to walk really slowly so I can check out your ass!" He jokes somewhat flirtatiously.

Ashley smirks as she puts Spencer's walker under her arm as if she's carrying a folding chair. That's pretty much what this type of walker is except its primary use is to help a person walk. The chair is secondary. Its there for when the user gets tired from walking, and of course, when you just need a seat.

Ashley is walking slow, and trying to be as sexy as anyone can be while carrying a walker even though she knows Spencer was kidding. She enjoys the occasional flirting, and jokes between them, and this is a way to keep that going.

She puts the walker at the top of the steps, making sure it's facing the correct way so that Spencer wouldn't have to turn it around. So, they could just go to her room once they got up the steps heads back down. Once she's at the bottom Spencer gives her a you're crazy type of look for actually going along with his joke.

"Now, that you've gotten a good look at my ass… How we're gonna get your ass up the steps to my room?" Ashley asks half joking, half curious.

"I don't need much help just walk up with me, and make sure I don't fall." Spencer answers calmly.

Ashley is nervous as they begin, but also impressed by how well Spencer's doing. Spencer's pace is slow as he climbs one step at a time with Ashley by his side. Just prior to reaching the middle step Ashley grabs Spencer's right arm to offer him more stability. He thinks about telling her he's doing okay and doesn't need the extra help, but he decides not to say anything because he likes that they're she's arm and arm. It makes him feel good. Her being willing to hold onto his damaged limb, that has been known to weird out some people, is yet another meaningful gesture in his eyes, One of so many that have endeared her to him.

The two are now inside Ashley's room. (Exactly like Ashley's room on the show)

"Spence, you look thirsty…you cool hangin' here while I go get us some drinks?" Ashley asks.

Spencer nods and with that, Ashley goes back downstairs to get the drinks. Much to Ashley's surprise upon returning it is clear to her that Spencer has decided to deviate from their normal seating arrangement where Ashley would sit somewhere and he'd sit next to or in front of her on his walker, but now he's sitting on the edge of the bed waiting on her to sit next to him. Ashley smiles, and does just that. Without saying a word she sits next to him on his good left side, and hands him a Dr. Pepper.

"Thanks." He opens it and takes a drink.

"Spence, I think I should tell ya somethin'. Ashley says nervously, not wanting to waist time with small talk.

"Ash, ya don't have to be nervous 'bout tellin' me somethin', you can tell me anything." Spencer assures her calmly.

"Ok well, when that dick head called you half a man or whatever…I was so mad! Ashley says starting to get mad again just thinking about it.

"What do ya mean what did ya wanna do? Spencer asks before taking another drink.

"I wanted to kiss you." She admits shyly.

Spencer wasn't expecting that. In fact, he was so caught off guard by the revelation that he spit his drink halfway across the room.

"What?!" He asks in disbelief, almost simultaneously.

"Nothin', forget I said that." She's feeling embarrassed by Spencer's reaction.

"No…no…no…I'm just not use to girls tellin' me things like that." Spencer answers honestly.

Ashley feels better knowing that Spencer wasn't unhappy because of her confession. Spencer does have some questions though.

"So, ya wanted to kiss me to show those two jerks that I'm more than half a man?"

"Yeah." Ashley answers without hesitation.

"No…I wanted to kiss you so you'd know that no matter what they say, you are a great guy!" She smiles.

"So, why didn't ya?" He asks curiously.

"What would you have done if I did?" She answers his question with a question, just as curious as he is.

"I probably woulda kissed ya back." He says honestly before pausing "Normally I'm very private when it comes to things like that…I guess I feel like those kinda moments should be between me and the girl, but I'm pretty sure if you woulda kissed me, even if it was in front of everyone at lunch, I woulda kissed you back." He adds.

"Good to know." Ashley pauses. Then while she looks into his eyes she adds "By the way, I wasn't gonna kiss you just 'cause I wanted to shut them up, or 'cause I wanted ya to feel good 'bout yourself…"

Spencer looks confused which prompts Ashley to clarify.

"They were part of it, but mostly I wanted to kiss you 'cause…I'm startin' to have feelin's for you, Spence." She says appearing uncharacteristically shy as she concludes her confession.

"Ya just answered my next question…but now I have another…"

"Oh boy." Ashley responds nervous, worried, and wondering what he's thinking.

"It's okay Ash…this's a good thing..."

He's succeeded in his efforts to calm her as evident by her smile.

"Ya keep talkin in past tense…ya sure ya weren't just caught up in the moment?" He asks really hoping she says no.

"Look at me Spence, I mean really look into my eyes." She insists sweetly.

Now that they are looking into each other's eyes, Ashley continues.

Trust me…it wasn't…Why don't ya believe me?" She questions, searching for the answer in his eyes.

"I'm sorry Ash…I'm just not use to havin' a pretty a girl, with a great smile, and an even better personality wantin' to kiss me. There's sadness in his honesty.

"We should stop stallin' and kiss already." Ashley blurts out.

"Ya sure?" He asks for confirmation knowing that a kiss could change everything for better or worse.

Ashley nods, the two shyly move in for the kiss. Their eyes are closed, heads tilted into position. From the instant that their lips meet, there's an undeniable, indescribable spark, a spark that lit a fire in both of them.

There's definitely something there, but what it is exactly? What should do about it? They have plenty of time to figure that out. This is a good thing, because the fire sparked by their kiss quickly met its extinguisher.

"Christ, Ashley! When ya said ya made friends with this…this…freak…It was nice that ya were takin' an interest in charity work...I never thought you'd be stupid enough to kiss the thing!" A disheveled Christine, Ashley's Mother who unbeknownst to Ashley had been asleep in her room the entire time, shouted from the doorway of her daughter's room.

A highly enraged Ashley gets off the bed. She looks as if she's getting read to run and beat the hell out of Christine, but Spencer grabs her gently by the arm before she's out of reach.

"Ash don't its not worth it…She's obviously needs to sleep it off some more…She's drunk." Spencer reasons.

"I'm not drunk ya gimpy mother fucker!" Christine angrily insists.

Spencer grabs Ashley's arm a little harder to stop her from ripping Christine to pieces. When Ashley looks at him he shakes his no. She decides that if he doesn't want to beat her mom's ass after all the things Christine said then she'll just have to calm down.

"She's tellin' the truth 'bout that...she's not drunk …"

Talking to Spencer, but looking at her Mom. Christine just looks right back at her, cold and emotionless.

"Ya see Spence, that'd be an excuse, a pathetic excuse, but still an excuse I could tell my friends, but nooo she really is the completely sober, belligerent, bitchy, cunt of a pathetic excuse in front of us…" In total disgust.

Now looking at Spencer, sadly

Congrats Spence, Ya just met the real Christine Davies."

Spencer puts his arm around a now crying Ashley, and pulls her in to him. She rests her head on his shoulder. Seeing this display of affection between her daughter and the "freak" disgusts Christine and she storms away.
