CHAPTER 7
"If you need me, I'm just with Mrs. Scott." Sandra gave them a warm smile. She sighed when they didn't respond.
"All right, I'll head in first.." she stated before she took a step inside the inn, leaving the awkward two on their own. They were still near the same storage room from earlier where Sakura waited for at least thirty minutes, only to find the two adults with red puffy eyes.
Hearing the fading footsteps of Sandra as every second passed by, Sakura kept her gaze on the ground while finding the courage to speak. She couldn't look at the man.
What would she say first? And how could she start when she can feel his gaze directly at her?
"I thought you have something to say to me. Well?" Sakura can feel her heart pounding really hard in her chest as she saw him crossed his arms on his chest from her peripheral vision.
'Wait! I'm trying! Ok?!' She thought with uneasiness, hands clasp behind her while playing with her fingers in nervousness.
"Well?" Alexis stared at her impatiently. The girl really looked distress, by this he felt a slight regret by his actions earlier. So he waited. But still she wasn't saying anything, he sighed.
"If you're not gonna say anything--" He said but cut himself off when he saw her dropped herself to the ground. His eyes widened and contemplated if he should help her stand or not.
"H-hey.." he stuttered.
"I-I'm really really sorry for their deaths, Alexis-san! It's all my fault! If I didn't passed out, they will still be alive. If I hadn't been there on the first place, none of this will ever happened! I--I deserve to be the one in their place right now... I fully understand if you hate me. I understand if you can't forgive me too... But we came here because I just want to tell you that I am really grateful that you still decided to get me out of that place... I know that it sounds ridiculous to hear me saying that I should be dead instead of them and thanking you to save my life at the same time... I-It's just--... I--... I'm really sorry!"
Sakura close her eyes tightly as she finished what she wanted to say with her deepest apology. Her kneel were touching the ground and her forehead was place just below her hands. The waters in her eyes are starting to build again. She gulped as she nervously waited for his reply.
She meant every word that she had just said, deep form her heart. She suddenly remembered what Levi said to her yesterday... that Alexis doesn't want to see her alive and kicking while his teammates were buried underground. She fully understand what that means but, she can't ignore the thing that someone died because of her.
"H-hey stand up. What the hell are you doing there on the ground?" His brows furrowed at the girl's posture, it's his first time to experience something like this. Just what in the world was she thinking? She didn't need to kneel just to say sorry, right? He thought.
"M-my body just move..." The sentence that has been her biggest excuse since the beginning. They can't blame her though, she has an 'amnesia' after all.
"Stand up. It feels so weird to talk with you when you're like that." Sakura blinked her tears away and pushed her body up to kneel, she stop there, her gaze still on the floor.
"I want to stay like this... If you don't mind.." she said in a low voice, hearing a 'tsk' from the man in front of her.
"You're right it's all your fault..." Her chest throb by the man's response, she also said it before, but hearing it from other people sure hurt like hell. She clenched her hands on top of her thigh as she let him continue.
"But your 'nanny' said that you're not, so I'll believe her..." Emphasizing the nanny as he talked about Sandra, not knowing what to say next, he trailed.
Seconds passed and he still can't think of another word so Sakura opened her mouth to say something but shut it right away after she heard him continued.
"Those three.. they are my best friends for six years, all the hardships that we have been through for those past years were now all gone... I know, and I am fully aware that we took the very dangerous work, that we can die any minute, but.. I never expected this to happen so quickly." He gritted his teeth and force to calm his raging emotion. He sighed loudly then looked far away.
"And the fact that you're suspiciously there doesn't help at all. And now you have amnesia... I will not give you my forgiveness unless you remember what happened to you back then. If you're really sorry, prove yourself to be innocent." Sakura bit the insides of her bottom lip. There is no way he can forgive her especially when she just can't make up any story about that day. She shakily sighed. She will help him in any way even if she got no chance to receive something in return.
"If I didn't remember anything--"
"Don't say that. You will remember. You have to." He slid his hands to his side pockets and look at Sakura for the last time. "And you don't need to thank me for saving you. I just follow an order from a friend. You can go inside, I'll just do my work for today." Then he turn towards the little storage room. Sakura's eyes widened and stand abruptly.
"Wait! Let me do it for you!" She shouted as she run towards him. The man raised his brow at the girl next to him.
"No, thanks." He was about to grabbed the only one mini shovel left but it was snatched by Sakura. He blinked.
"I insist, besides there are kids that I wanted to talk to." Sakura bowed while hugging the tool close to her chest and sprint away to the location.
Alexis was left there dumbfounded, he turn to look at the storage and there was no tool left anymore. He sighed and decided to walk inside the inn where Sandra and his mother were in. He found his mother on the bed, sleeping soundly and Sandra just came into view with a bowl with water and towel in it. She noticed him and smiled in which he gladly return.
"Where is she?" Sandra asked with worry in her eyes.
"I told her to go in here but she just snatched the shovel that I was about to hold so she can take my place." He shrugged, noticing the slight chuckle from her. Placing the bowl on the chair beside the bed then began to squeeze the towel from the excess water.
"I doubt that you go easy on her... but thank you Alexis." He looked at his mom as he ignored her statement. This whole thing was still uneasy for him, as much as possible he want to clear his mind from it.
"How's mom?" Worry crept up to his chest as he looked at his mom's paled face. He leaned over and touched her forehead, only to find it slightly feverish. He frowned.
"Not good. She complained about her headache earlier, I guessed she's overworked." With a gentle gesture, she placed the damp towel on her forehead and sat on the furthest part of the bed.
"I always told her to rest, she just won't listen to me." He sighed and plopped himself down to the other bed.

Sakura almost stumbled by the rock that was sticking out from the ground, she was deep in thought so she doesn't really notice that it was on her way. Deep in thought about what they had conversed earlier. Now that they believed that she have an amnesia, she can't back out now. What if she make up a story on how she get there? No. Definitely not. Since she's new to this place, she didn't know the rules and regulations of those civilians and soldiers so she can't just tell them nonsense things.
What if she just confess the truth?
Heh. Absolutely. Not. As much as possible she want to have a low profile but with just a slipped of tounge about 'jumping from trees to trees' her plan was crumbled. There was no way that she would thought about a place where people don't know about chakra that had been living from their bodies since they were born. Now that she's known to be a sensor and with her amazing agility, they will not let her get away from their grasp.
She became their one of their own.
Well, they didn't said that but she just knew it by intuition. Though, she still doesn't know how they do their 'powers' she knew that she is the 'strongest' person here. So hiding her other abilities was the best option for now. She sighed.
And starting tomorrow, she will began her move.
To find Naruto.
But for now. She need to find those three kids.
"It's her! Let's go!"
Speaking of the devil...
The voice came from behind her so she turned around, and saw the brown haired boy running ahead from the two while waving and smiling widely at her. He stopped when he got infront of her, huffing air in and out from running. The two got to her within a short time. Huffing from exhaustion. The blonde was on his knees breathing heavily, while the girl just look normal and slightly huffing.
"Why are you running?" She asked in a gentle tone and crouched to make the same eye level to the three.
"Mikasa said to leave you alone but she won't even tell us why so I ran from her and look for you to ask why!" Sakura smiled. This kid. He acts just like Naruto, loud and always full of energy. Just seeing someone like this makes her worries go away in an instant.
"Well I'm all done, and I was looking for you guys too." She straightened and put her hands on her waist on both sides. "Can I join you?" She showed them the thing that she is holding and their eyes twinkled from the delight, although Mikasa tried to mask it with her scarf, she can see it very clearly.
"Really?! Yes, sure!" The boys said in unison. They both grab her hands and lead her the way. She chuckled. The enthusiasm of the two towards her are really adorable. Mikasa silently follow them behind. Once they were on the field, they lined themselves and began to do the work.
"Can you tell us your name?" The blonde asked while busy digging a hole to the ground and looking at her every second.
"I'm Sakura. How about you?" Sakura stopped and looked at them with warm smile. She already knew their names from their short conversation earlier but it would be better if they properly introduce themselves.
The brown boy, as usual was the first to speak.
"I'm Eren Yeager!"
"Armin Arlert!"
"Mikasa Ackerman.."
She nodded and continue to do her work. She want to start a conversation but then, she suddenly remembered on why they are here. That topic would really make them uncomfortable. To experience something like that for such a young age.. seeing them like this, all on their own with no parents around was something that she doesn't want to see.
"Sakura! Can you tell us where you're from?" The blonde boy asked that caught the attention of the two eagerly. She smiled sadly. I'm from Konoha No Sato, was what she wanted to answer.
"I don't know." The three stopped and looked at her with such curiosity.
"What do you mean?" Eren asked as he stared at her with furrowed brows.
"I can't remember. I just woke up one day from a very tragic moment of my life not knowing anything besides my name. They said I have an amnesia." Lying like this was still making her disturbed. But even though it's a lie, she can't hide the fact that she really miss her home, they were in a war yes, but it would be better to die with them fighting than being stucked here for God knows when right?
She looked at their troubled faces, they surely don't know what to say so she smiled reassuringly at them to brighten the atmosphere.
"It's fine, you don't need to pity me, ask more questions if you like." Continuing to work, she watched the three from her peripheral vision. They are looking from eye to eye as if they were conversing if they should stop or not. So she volunteered to speak while her eyes are on the ground.
"Eren, you said that I used the language like Mikasa's, and Armin, you said that I must be her relative... and Mikasa, if you don't mind me asking, why do you know the language? And here I thought I'm the only one who can speak like that, because when I woke up, I was so confused because I can't understand what they were saying, so I had to study English for one week straight." Looking at Mikasa with a warm smile, but the girl just hide her face with a scarf.
"My mom was the only Asian left, so when I was young, she taught me to speak Japanese." Sakura nodded. Hearing the 'was' to describe a person was really depressing.
"I'm sorry." She said then a wind of silence came. For a minute they were just doing their work in silence, and knowing that she's at fault she was thinking of another topic that is not sensitive.
"T-that's why we were so happy when we hear you speak Mikasa's language. We never thought that there would be someone like you." Armin said with a sad smile, Sakura noticed.
"I feel the same way. I feel like I'm home when I hear her speak earlier." She agreed and an idea suddenly came to mind.
"Hey, what if we get in touch by writing letters every month? I think it would be fun if we became close to each other." She genuinely smiled at them. And the same twinkle came back to their eyes as she watched them carefully.
"Yes that would be so cool!"
"Yeah! I'm looking forward to it!"
"Mhm.."
Sakura smiled widely.
"You see, I'm joining the training corps tomorrow so a letter would be nice." Sakura mentioned and begin to dig another hole.
"What?! But they would be graduating in three months, right?!" Eren shouted and stand up unconsciously with wide eyes and mouth agape at Sakura.
She blinked at his sudden movement, and raised a brow at curiosity.
"Wait. How do you know about that?" She asked with a full curiosity.
"Because we are going to join it too for the next batch!" He said with a determination in his eyes. Sakura blinked again.
"You are? Wait how old are you?" She asked at Eren the looked at the other two with the same face. "And you're going to join too?"
"Our age doesn't matter! I will kill them. I will kill them all. I will wipe every single one of them off of the face of the earth!" Sakura shuddered when she felt the all burning hatred from the boy's words. This kids must have gone so much worst that she imagined. Hatred surely can control a human mind.
She remembered Sasuke in his early days, where he's full of hatred. But now that she think about it, the enemy here are titans, and not ninja who is a human. But still...
"If Eren joins, we will join too." Said Mikasa and Armin. Sakura sighed.
"Eren come back down here." She ordered and pat the ground beside her where Eren stood. He immediately obeyed, once he sat down she pat him on the head with her clean hand and gave him a stern gaze in which he flinched.
"Guys, remember this. Hatred doesn't solve anything. It builds nothing but it can destroy everything. It can kill you. If you want to avenge that much, make sure you are in a right mind and I will help you. Understand?" She stared at him with seriousness and she hope that it will mark in his mind. Seeing that he flinch at the word 'avenge' just confirmed her theory.
"I understand." He said while looking away. It's not healthy to feel a hatred for such a young age, he will surely bring it until he grow old and she doesn't want that to happen. She smiled and pat him hard on the back, so hard that he almost fall face first on the mud. They laughed at his reaction.
"Hey! That hurts! Oww.." He complained while trying to massage his back but failed to reach it.
"Now that I think about it, Sakura you must be so strong!" Armin stated with his hands under his chin. He have the same twinkle on his eyes just like before and that caught the attention of the other two. She unconsciously scratch the side of her brow.
"Can you show us your move?!"
"Teach us!"
"I want to see you fight!"
Now that she's bombarded with their pleadings she just laugh awkwardly and didn't know what to do.
"Hehe... I, I can't really do that. I literally don't know what to show you guys since I can't remember my moves... But I think I can show you just one." She stated while in thinking position.
"Really!?"
"Yes!"
"I can't wait!"
They said in unison. They continued to chat about random things a bit more until the end of the day. Of course they stopped for lunch and continue to work afterwards together with the other people. She didn't know that she would lost the track of time by just being with them. Having a friend in this world was not a bad idea afterall.
It was already four in the afternoon when Sandra suddenly came to them running. She looked so troubled and Sakura immediately come to her.
"We need to get a medicine!"
