Tonight was the night, or at least he hoped. He had been mustering up the courage to do this for a while, even dragging Derek along to get his opinion on rings. This was his chance, surrounded by family and friends that had gathered at their apartment to celebrate the holidays with them.

"Hey, stop staring at her and just do it." Derek's voice came from beside him making Mark sigh.

"She's going to say yes right? I can do this right?" Mark panicked.

"It's Lexie, she would have married you the moment you guys first laid eyes on each other! She will say yes and you guys will be married and have a dozen babies." Derek smiled.

"Don't say that in front of her" Mark whispered. "She panics at even the thought of one."

"Just do it, you won't regret it" Derek smiled as he walked away. Mark walked over, pouring himself another cup of eggnog as his eyes trailed down to Sofia and Zola who were running throughout the apartment.

"Hey, slow down before you hurt someone!" Mark called out after the youngsters. He followed the girls into the back bathroom.

"Daddy! girls only" Sofia said as she sat on the toilet.

"Uncle Mark, I have to go too!" Zola announced and Mark would have never guessed that he would be settling a bathroom dispute on Christmas eve.

"Ok, let Sofia finish up, and then It will be your turn, Zola," Mark said as he walked away. He placed himself on the couch, watching Lexie who was talking to Callie by the tree.

"Not going to join the party?" Meredith smiled taking a seat next to mark with Bailey in her arms.

"I'm fine just sitting here" Mark smiled.

"Derek said you are going to propose to Lexie tonight" Meredith smiled.

"Thinking about it." He paused for a moment. "What do you think Meredith? is she ready? am I ready?"

"We greys are never ready to commit. I know I wasn't. I was scared to commit to Derek. but I don't regret it, he's pretty amazing and you and lexie are like couple goals!"

"Couple goals? have you been paying any attention to us?" Mark laughed softly

"I have never seen Lexie as happy as when she is with you Mark" Meredith whispered. "Just trust me." Meredith got up from the couch as Bailey started fussing.

"Ok let's open presents, everyone gather around" Callie announced. Everyone gathered around, presents being handed to their respective owners as the kids laughed. Meredith was helping Bailey open his since he was so young. The kids were ripping theirs open, paper flying everywhere as they squealed in delight.

"Derek you didn't have to get me anything," Meredith whispered as Derek handed her a small box.

"Just open it." Meredith readjusted the baby, grabbing the box as she gently tore the wrapping paper off. "Here can you take him?" She asked handing him the baby before returning to her gift.

"Derek," she gasped as she opened the box. In it, was a necklace that had her children's names engraved on it. Tears came to her eyes. "This is beautiful, thank you" she whispered as she hugged him.

"I can't take all the credit, the kids helped pick it out." Derek smiled.

"Oh, I'm sure, Bailey had a lot of input considering he's only 3 months old." She laughed.

"Alex, I hope you didn't get me anything crazy expensive" Jo sighed as she took the gift from Alex.

"Oh shut up and open it" Alex whispered. She got to work, ripping the paper off as she deposited it onto the floor. It would be cleaned up later.

"A diary, it's pretty Alex" Jo whispered.

"Now you can write down the thoughts you are having, you don't have to keep them bottled up anymore. Go on there is more" he smiled. Jo sat the diary on the table before she continued unwrapping.

"Oh a new stethoscope, it is sparkly and cute!" Jo exclaimed.

"Goes with your personality. I saw it when I was out and I could only imagine you rocking it"Alex smiled. "Ok, you have one more gift but let's go somewhere private."

"Alright?" Jo questioned as she gathered her other gifts following Alex to the bedroom. "Alex, we are doing this here?" She questioned, staring at the bed.

"What? No, I just wanted some privacy for this. Here" Alex said handing Jo her last gift.

Jo slowly unwrapped it, her breathing caught in her throat as tears spilled over in her eyes when she saw what it was.

"Alex, i- I can't believe you did this." She cried. "You don't know how much this means to me."

It was a keychain, one side held a photo of an ultrasound of their baby. The baby jo had lost just a month prior. She flipped it over.

"Gone but never forgotten" she read out loud. "Thank you, Alex, now it makes sense as to why I couldn't find the photo" she slightly laughed, reaching up to dry the tears.

"I love you Jo" Alex whispered

"I love you too" Jo whispered back leaning in to kiss him.

"Ok, what is this?" April asked. In her hand was her gift from Jackson.

"I hope you like them, your hard to shop for." Jackson teased.

"I am not" April gasped as she tore the paperback. "Jackson, this is perfect" she breathed looking at the bible in her hand.

"I noticed the one on our nightstand was pretty worn down and I thought...you could use a new one."

"It's perfect Jackson thank you" April sighed.

"There is more" Jackson whispered. She looked back down, moving the bible as a necklace revealed itself. She picked it up, turning it over.

John 4:8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

She read the verse, sighing gently. "Thank you, I love it."

Everyone finished opening their gifts. It was night time and the tree lit up the room giving off a gentle glow. The kids were playing with their new toys as each couple snuggled up on the couch or the chairs that occupied the apartment.

Now is the time Mark thought as he stuck his hand in his pocket, fiddling around with the box as he walked over to Lexie.

"Lex, I have something for you." Mark whispered.

"Mark, you didn't have to." She leaned in closer, clutching her drink in her hand. "Having you is enough."

"I've uh, been wanting to do this for a while now and tonight seems like the night." Slowly he got down on one knee, pulling the box out of his pocket. Lexie gasped as she nudged the person behind her handing them her drink.

As he opened the box, he sighed. "Lex, I've been scared to do this but you deserve it. Since the day I first met you, I knew I wanted a life with you. The whole nine yards. Forever and always. We push each other to be better and we may have our fights but we always come back to each other. Were going to have a beautiful life together Lexie and I can't wait to spend my life with you by my side. Were meant to be and I might not be good at expressing how I feel all the time but I know, this life isn't worth living if you aren't by my side. So please, will you marry me?"

"I-i" Lexie stammered. "Yeah of course I will. Yes let's do this!" She squealed as Mark took her into his arms.

"She said yes!!!" He yelled as everyone applauded around them. He couldn't wait to start his life with Lexie because they were meant to be and always will be.
