Reckless Endangerment

Chapter Eight

Leaving for the Roman Catholic church. Lee stopped them to tell the two that he was going to come with them in order to face the agent. "No way in hell Lee that you're be coming with us with that leg?" Francine was frantic with her words to the friend of many years.

"I am coming Francine to help search for the file. I know Father Cardinal is lying for the most part. I just need you to keep me together with the leg with any type of painkillers that is in that medical kit of yours?" He had begged with the request.

"Fine I will give you the morphine I have in the kit. But I will only give you a small dosage in order to keep your mind clear." She went to work with the small bottle of morphine with the syringe checking the amount of fluid inside. She had Robert to search for the right vein before injecting it. It had hurt slightly before she was able to finish and throwing the syringe into the garbage. "Let's get moving before the next mass in order to speak with the undercover agent."

Lee was limping even though the pain was mostly better after given the morphine shot. He sat in the back of the vehicle with Francine while Robert was able to drive. They were checking on whether they were being tailed.

Meanwhile Father Cardinal was having a meal by the cook in his quarters finishing up with his chicken soup, a sandwich mostly turkey and a piece of fruit with coffee to keep him awake. One of the nuns came to him in his quarters with the door open telling him that he had guests.

"Really! Who Sister Andrews?" He looked up to asked the question with taking a sip of his soup.

"Your friend Lee Stetson and two of his friends needing to speak with you about a delicate matter." She stated with moving out of his quarters with Father Cardinal finishing with getting up to greet his friends.

They were waiting in the garden with the weather having gotten better with the temperature. "Lee I was worried about you having sent off another coded message to Billy. What happened to you?" As he looks over at his two friends not realizing that the woman is Francine Desmond.

"First of all I will like to introduce you to Francine Desmond and her husband Robert Baskins. She used to work for IFF for over 18 years." he said with stumbling slightly with his leg.

"I need to sit down. I was shot earlier having escaped from the Chinese agents. Look what the hell why did you lie to my friends about the file?" he insisted with anger in his demeanor.

"What are you talking about Lee?" He said loudly with his tone...

"I gave you the file to hold Father Cardinal before I left for the Embassy. What did you do with it? Did you happened to join the other side in order to gain respect with them and greed?" Lee responded with Francine telling him to calm down.

"Stop it already Lee. There is a good chance that your memories might of been screwed up by that doctor you're spoken about." Francine was concern as with her husband. "If you didn't give the file to Father Cardinal. Then what the hell did you do it with the file?" She requested...

Shaking his head with getting rid of the cobwebs with his thinking. "I don't know anymore Francine." He cried out.

"The only thing we can do is check again inside the church, pews and the quarters on whether you might of placed it in the most obvious spot." Robert had replied with his request.

This search went on for a few hours with Lee needing to rest all of the time with his right leg. They weren't able to find a thing at all and they needed to stop for now to have something to eat with the cook putting together a meal for all of them.

Meanwhile Francine had changed the bandages on his upper part of his leg. He was going to be needing further medical treatment. Even though they didn't know of anyone with medical training.

After she was done with the leg and washing her hands before heading for the dining area to eat their meal. Father Cardinal had to leave to deliver at mass at this particular time while his associates were eating.

"I just don't understand it Francine as to where I might of placed the file?" Lee was racking his brain on just where.

"Give it a good night's rest and maybe your memory will be able to come back to you at this time?" Robert needed to say on the subject.

"This is crazy and I wind up getting shot in the process and I could of said no to the mission and stay home with Amanda so close to having the baby. I don't even know what is happening to her now with Dottie having been keeping an eye out on my wife?" He was worried for the most part...

Amanda was on the way over to Bethesda hospital with Doctor Angela Silvers baby doctor waiting for Dottie to be driving her patient to the hospital in labor.

One of the neighbors was with them as well to help with Amanda in the back of the car with the labor pains. Dottie was doing her best driving quickly through some of the red lights without any police officers stopping her.

"OMG! How I wish Lee was here?" Amanda cried out from the contractions she was having...

"Honey, I know. Lee is on assignment in Frankfurt, Germany. And I know he's going to be missing the birth of the child."

"HE PROMISED ME TO BE HERE FOR THE BIRTH?" She screamed out from the pain of the contraction as Isabella the neighbor having had four herself tried to help her work through the contraction with her breathing exercises.
