A/N - I know this is no longer in sequential order, but from now on I'll just do some small one shot type stories. Still within POA era revolved around Remus Lupin.

It was Thursday morning and Remus was teaching his third-year class about Hinkypunks. The students had done the practical lesson the lesson prior, so now students were sat down at their desks reading the required theory on them and taking notes on parchment. Remus was walking around, checking students work as he went around. Telling students corrections or things to think about. He was using a low whispering voice for this as the class were quiet and he didn't want to disturb everyone. Hermione's hand shot up. She was done. He went over and read through her work, knowing this would happen, so he had some extra reading for her – a book called Folio Bruti – he just hoped she hadn't already read this book before! He handed Hermione the book and noticed that Harry was particularly slow at his work today. Not to mention his head was about 5cm from the page of his book. He squatted down next to Harry and gently took the book out of his hands. He held the book further away, but in a position that Harry would still be able to see it. He whispered to Harry "Can you still read it from here?" Harry scrunched up his face as he squinted at the book "It's a bit too blurry, sir." Ah, thought Remus, his glasses clearly aren't doing their new job.

"Harry, have you been having headaches lately by any chance?" asked Remus.

"Yeah, sometimes, I guess…." Replied Harry

"Not sometimes," butted in Hermione, "you've been having headaches often, Harry. I even got you that packet of headache medicine last time I was in Hogsmeade because it has been so bad."

Harry went red. He didn't want Professor Lupin knowing it was that bad. His aunt and uncle never took him to get his eyes checked in the summer and he had no way of doing it now he was at Hogwarts unless he went home over the Christmas break – which he didn't want to do.

Remus pulled a note book out of his robes pocket and asked to borrow Harry's quill. He wrote something on a page and tore it out, handing it to Harry. He said to Harry in a whisper "I want you to go to the hospital wing and tell Madam Pomfrey that you've been getting headaches because your glasses need updating."

Harry didn't want to go, but he didn't want to defy Professor Lupin, so he got up and left. He could see other students trying to figure out what was wrong. He knew Malfoy would tease him if he found out he had to go to the hospital wing during a DADA lesson.

Harry arrived at the hospital wing. It was empty except for Harry and a boy who Harry didn't know the name of, but he was in sixth year Ravenclaw. Harry breathed a sigh of relief. A sixth year Ravenclaw is unlikely to tell a Slytherin why he was here. Madam Pomfrey came over to see Harry and asked why he was there. Harry handed her the note and explained the Professor Lupin was concerned his glasses weren't correct. "Mmm" said Madam Pomfrey in response, "it says here you have been having headaches as a result, Mr Potter."

"Uh, yeah," replied Harry.

"Hmmm, ok, glasses off, let's see what your eyes are like," stated Madam Pomfrey. She asked him to read a chart on the wall, but everything was blurry without his glasses on. She then handed him his glasses back and asked him to read the chart again. He could make out the first few lines. Madam Pomfrey just said "how you can see the snitch when playing quidditch is beyond me if you can only see the top lines. During the Christmas holidays, I want you to go home and get your eyes tested by an optical healer. You'll need new glasses."

Harry instantly protested. There was no way he was going home over the Christmas break, and the Dursleys probably wouldn't even take him to an optician. They'd just ignore him. Harry asked if there was another way to get his eyes tested.

"You need to have a responsible adult take you to get your eyes tested, Mr Potter, and quickly," stated Madam Pomfrey who was losing her patience with him.

Harry could tell that there was no arguing with her, so he simply said ok and went back to the DADA classroom. Class would be over soon, if not already.

When Harry got back, the class had already left. The only person left was Professor Lupin. He waved his wand and all of Harry's things landed neatly in Harry's backpack. He asked Harry how things went at the hospital wing. "Fine" lied Harry, "she said it was ok."

"Harry, I will see Madam Pomfrey tonight at dinner. She will tell me everything. I will know either way," replied Remus.

"She said that over the Christmas holidays I need to go home and get my aunt and uncle to take me to the optician to change my glasses," said Harry annoyed.

Remus looked at him and simply stated "that isn't an option." There was no question in his voice. Harry looked at him. How did Professor Lupin understand that so easily? "Harry, you need new glasses either way. I will chat to Madam Pomfrey. Maybe we can make your current glasses stronger somehow. By the way, what are your quidditch goggles like? Are they the same prescription?" asked Remus.

"I think so" responded Harry.

"Ok, let me see what can be done. Leave it with me" responded Remus before Harry grabbed his things and went to lunch.

That afternoon, during Remus' planning time, he went to the hospital wing to see Poppy Pomfrey. "Poppy, I was wondering how things went with a student I sent to you earlier today." Poppy responded that Harry would need his eyes re-testing.

"Isn't there a spell we can do to his glasses to magnify them?" he asked her.

"Unfortunately not" she replied, "of course I told him to get it sorted during the upcoming break but he was unwilling to."

"Yeah, it's a complex situation, with his aunt and uncle. I think it's better avoided. What other option does he have?" asked Remus.

"If an adult here has the time to take him to St Mungo's they can do it there, but you'd need to find someone who isn't already up to their eyeballs in other things to do. Not sure where you'll find one of those" sighed Poppy.

"True, we are all extremely busy" replied Remus, "thank you for your help."

Remus really didn't have time to take Harry to St Mungo's and queue until he could be seen, but he knew that Harry needed to get his glasses sorted and soon.

That night over dinner, Remus sat next to Minerva so they could chat. He didn't know how to be subtle, so he just got it out. "Potter is having awful headaches from his glasses. He can't read his book without it being right under his nose. I sent him to Poppy who told him to get his aunt to take him to get new glasses during the holidays…" started Remus.

"And of course, Potter is unwilling to ask his aunt for anything knowing what she's like" finished Minerva.

"Uh, exactly" he said. "Is there anyone at school who could take him?" he asked her.

"We're all so busy towards the end of term, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a teacher who could do it before Christmas," she replied.

"What if I took him during my non-contact time?" asked Remus, "we could apparate to St Mungo's and get it done there. I don't teach Friday afternoons, although I don't know what classes Harry has then."

"I think you'll find he has potions" stated Minerva.

"Ah" replied Remus.

"Although I don't think he'd protest if he missed double potions" said Minerva with a slight smile. "If you are willing to give up your time to take him, I don't think anyone would stop you, and I'm sure Harry will get better notes for potions class from Miss Granger than what he would write himself."

"Of course," said Remus.

"Ah, I think you'd be best sending an owl to St Mungo's to see what their protocol is on appointments. And of course, Potter will need his MHS number to go" reminded Minerva.

"Ah, of course" replied Remus.

"I'll grab Potter after dinner and ask him if he knows about his MHS number" offered Minerva.

"Thank you very much" stated Remus.

After dinner Minerva headed up to the Gryffindor common room. She tried to find Harry but he wasn't there. She left a message with Ginny to tell Harry that she had been looking for him.

Harry got back to the common room after finishing his homework in the library when Ginny came over to him, telling him that Professor McGonagall was searching for him, so he dumped his back and headed back out to go and find her. He finally found her in the staff room. She invited him into the staff room where Professor McGonagall, Professor Lupin and Professor Sinistra were all talking. Professor McGonagall motioned for Harry to sit. Then she opened a biscuit tin and held it in front of him "biscuit, Potter?" Harry took a biscuit, not really wanting one, but also not wanting to say no. "Harry, Professor Lupin told me that your glasses need replacing soon and I suppose your quidditch goggles will also need replacing as well. Merlin knows we need you to be able to see the snitch."

Harry looked over at Professor Lupin with a look that Remus couldn't read correctly. Was it embarrassment or annoyance?

"We understand that your family probably won't help you to get a new pair, so a staff member will go with you to get your eyes checked at St Mungo's. There you can get new glasses. I noticed on your school enrolment forms that your parents filled out that you have a MHS number, but I don't suppose you have the card to go with it?"

"Professor, what is a MHS number?" asked Harry

"Magic Health System number" responded Minerva matter of factly, "it means that all of your basic medical care is covered for free, although I think you may need to pay some money to get new glasses, or lenses switched over."

"Anyway, if you don't have the MHS card" she continued "you will need to complete this form first. This will allow them to create a card which they will then send to you here at Hogwarts within 5 working days. After that, we can take you to St Mungo's."

Harry's head was full of questions. He looked at Professor Lupin. Had he really organised all of this? Just for him because he looked at a book too closely.

"Right, well if there's no more questions it is close to third-year curfew. If you hurry, you'll make it back to the common room before it hits time. Good night Harry" said Minerva.

Harry noticed everyone was looking at him, but he was still looking at Lupin. "Ah, yes, thank you" and he got up and walked back to the common room.

Back at the common room, Harry looked at the form he had just been given. There were so many questions he didn't know the answer to. Grandfather's name? Grandmother's name? Father's blood type? Father's wand? Mother's wand? His head was spinning. There was no way he could complete all of this himself. He put the forms down and went to shower before getting into bed.

The next day after Transfiguration class, he asked Professor McGonagall about the questions he didn't know the answers to on the forms. She simply responded that he should fill in as much as he knew then hand it back to her. Harry smiled and left. There wasn't much on the form he did know the answer to so it would be a simple task. That night he filled in the first page and then took it to the staff room. Professor McGonagall wasn't there so he asked Professor Flitwick to give it to her. When Minerva saw the form, she handed it to Remus and asked him to fill in the rest. She added that he may need to go to central files to find the information hidden in the archives. Remus looked at the form. Grandfather's name "Fleamont Potter" he wrote as he thought of how many times he spent days at the Potter house when he was young. Father's wand "11 inch, mahogany, dragon string core" mother's wand "10 1/4 inch, willow, unicorn hair core." Remus filled in as much as he knew, which he noted was the majority of the form before he got stuck and had to look in the archives. After a brief trip to the archives to find out James and Lily's blood types A+ and O- respectively, he went to the owlery and sent the form to the Ministry of Magic MHS department.

Within a week, Harry received a large tawny owl at breakfast with post from the Ministry of Magic. He opened the envelope at breakfast and saw that his MHS card had arrived. He pocketed it and continued to eat his breakfast before heading to Transfiguration class. After class he caught Professor McGonagall and explained that he received his card. She simply responded that they would go to St Mungo's this Friday afternoon. "But I have double potions Friday afternoons" replied Harry. Professor McGonagall smiled and simply replied "not this week. I suggest you explain to Miss Granger what is going on so you can borrow her notes. I dare say you're not sad that you'll be missing potions. I will send you a list of things you'll need to take and instructions."

Harry received his list of instructions at breakfast the next day. He should wear his weekend clothes, bring his glasses and quidditch goggles, a book to read while waiting, his new MHS card and some money. He needs to wait in the main entrance after a quick lunch on Friday.

After school that day, Minerva went to find Remus who was busy marking in his classroom by candlelight. She knocked on the door before walking in. "Everything is ready to go for Harry. You can take him this Friday," started Minerva. Remus looked up at her. Saturday night was the full moon, so he could do it, but he'd feel awful all-day Friday. "Ok. How will we get to St Mungo's?" he asked.

"Well, you could floo, or if you walk him to the gates you could side-along apparate with him" replied Minerva, "assume Harry is a muggle born child. You'll have to explain to him what to do either way."

"Mmm" said Remus, thinking.

"Just do me a favour while you're out - cheer the boy up. He looks like his best friend died since his broomstick broke" told Minerva.

"Will try" replied Remus. Minerva left him to continue marking his papers.

Harry finished his morning classes on Friday and headed back to the Gryffindor common room. He quickly changed his clothes to a black hoodie and jeans, and he re-packed his bag to only include one book – Quidditch through the ages – as well as his quidditch goggles and his wallet, before racing down to the Great Hall to grab a couple of sandwiches which he placed into his bag. He then headed out to the main entrance with one sandwich still in hand. While he was waiting, he started to eat. Harry assumed that Hagrid would be coming to take him, after all, it usually is Hagrid who does these sorts of jobs. He saw Hagrid walking up the steps to the entrance and said, "Hi Hagrid, ready to go?"

"Go where?" replied Hagrid bewildered.

"Aren't you taking me this afternoon?" asked Harry.

"Not unless you wan' t' go t' the forest with my sixth-year care of magical creatures students. Today we're looking at Thestrals. Why, where do you think you're goin'?" replied Hagrid.

Harry's face fell. Then who would be taking him? "I have to go to St Mungo's to get new glasses. These are too old. They don't work well anymore" replied Harry, "do you know who will be taking me?"

"Not the foggiest" replied Hagrid, "Good luck with that," before walking into the Great Hall for lunch.

After some time had passed, and Harry had eaten one of his sandwiches, he saw Professor Lupin walk up to him wearing an old beige cardigan and blue corduroy pants. As he got closer to Harry, Harry noticed that he looked rather unwell.

"Hello Harry, are you ready to go?" asked Remus.

"You're taking me?" asked Harry.

"Yes, is there a problem?" replied Remus.

"No" replied Harry quickly.

"Ah, we are going to apparate to St Mungo's as I think it's the quickest way to get there. Have you ever side-along apparated before?" asked Remus.

"No sir" replied Harry.

"Ah, well we are going to have to walk to the school gates first, then I'll explain what to do" replied Remus.

They walked across the school grounds towards the gates chatting politely the whole time about quidditch, although by the end of the walk, Remus had exhausted all of his quidditch knowledge. As they got to the gate, Remus explained to Harry about what apparition is and explained that he would be apparating Harry to St Mungo's. All Harry had to do was hold onto Remus' arm tightly.

Just as they were getting to the gates, some dementors came towards them. Remus could feel their presence, and he could feel Harry was also sensing them, going a little faint. Remus quickly pulled out his wand and shouted "expect patronum" at the dementors which repelled them. Luckily, he managed to do this before Harry fainted again, however, Harry was looking a little pale. Remus dug around his pockets and pulled out some chocolate, offering it to Harry as well as taking a bite himself.

"Why do you always have chocolate with you?" asked Harry, taking a piece.

"It's good for dementors" replied Remus simply. Harry ate the chocolate as they left the gate.

"Now, hold on tight Harry" said Remus before apparating them both to St Mungo's apparition bay.

When Remus and Harry arrived, Harry was looking rather white again, so Remus handed him some more chocolate. "Eat, it'll help your body recover from the shock of apparition" he told Harry.

"Is chocolate your cure for everything?" asked Harry taking the chocolate but still feeling like he wanted to vomit.

"Not quite everything" replied Remus.

The hospital was full of people walking everywhere. The doctors at St Mungo's were called Healers and they wore bright green robes. Remus took Harry to the optometry department where they took a number to join a short queue of people to be seen. While they were waiting in the waiting room, Harry asked Remus "Professor, you're not looking so well today, did you come here so you can be seen by a healer too?"

"No, no. Nothing like that. I'm just feeling a little unwell. I have a potion at the castle that will help me for it. No need to worry" he told Harry.

There was an awkward silence for a while. Remus kept trying to think of something to break the silence. "Have you thought about which broom to buy next?" he asked Harry, although he regretted it immediately as he knew nothing about brooms.

"Not really" replied Harry.

"C'mon surely you've had a look at them. You could get a Nimbus 2001. I hear they're good," started Remus.

"Yeah, but I don't want anything Malfoy thinks is good" responded Harry. Remus just stared at Harry. He didn't want to get into a conversation about Malfoy with another student. "Hmm, then what about another Nimbus 2000? I hear they're still making them" he asked. "Mmm I don't know" replied Harry half-heartedly.

"Ok, ok, if you could buy any broomstick in the world, which would you choose. Ignore money, ignore what Malfoy has. Which one?" asked Remus

"During the school holidays I saw a Firebolt in Quality Quidditch supplies. It was amazing. Apparently, the Irish international team have ordered them," replied Harry.

Remus laughed. "Why are you laughing?" asked Harry.

"You're much more like your father than I originally thought" replied Remus, "he would have seen that Firebolt and begged his parents to buy it for him. And I know eventually Fleamont and Euphemia would have given in."

"You even knew my grandparents?" asked Harry.

"Of course, I spent some time over the summer with the Potters. A day here, a week there," said Remus fondly, "You know your dad used to have the Firebolt of his day when he played quidditch at school. He begged his parents for the Comet 100 when he heard it was coming out. Eventually he was the first student in the school to have one."

"But I can't afford a Firebolt, I couldn't spend all that money on a broomstick and then have to ask my aunt and uncle for money for spell books," replied Harry.

"Very wise of you," replied Remus.

Suddenly Harry's name was called by the healer. He went to get his eyes checked. They first asked him to read the eye chart, then they conjured a large floating screen in front of his eyes. The healer tapped the screen a few times before telling Harry he needed new glasses and if he handed over his glasses now, they could replace the lenses, or he could get a whole new pair of glasses. Harry didn't want the extra cost of replacing his glasses, so he opted to just get the lenses changed. He handed over his glasses and his quidditch goggles to get new lenses. He couldn't see without them, so he just stayed put in the chair until the healer gave him his new glasses back, which didn't take long. The healer handed him a piece of paper to give to the cashier and he left.

He walked to the waiting room and found Remus before they both left for the cashier. Harry showed them his MHS card then paid 14 sickles 3 knuts for both sets of lenses before they side-apparated back to Hogsmeade. Harry looked a bit pale again, so Remus took out some more chocolate, handing it to Harry. They walked up the pathway to the Hogwarts gates when they came across more dementors. Again, Remus cast a patronus driving the dementors away, this time he was quicker at doing so and Harry looked less effected. As they were walking up to the castle Harry asked Remus "Professor, Hermione said that when cast by adults, patronuses are often animals, but yours is just a whisp. What animal is yours?" Remus looked at him. Harry was watching him innocently, like he'd just asked Remus' favourite colour. "A hinkypunk" lied Remus.

"Cool" responded Harry. They finally got to the castle and Harry turned to Professor Lupin and thanked him for taking him to St Mungo's. He wished Lupin to get better soon, so Remus bid him goodnight. As Harry was getting ready to leave, he hugged Remus before leaving for the Great Hall to eat dinner.

Remus wasn't hungry for the food in the Great Hall and needed his next dose of Wolfsbane, so he headed back to his room where Snape had left the cauldron of the potion. After taking the potion, he called for a house elf to make him a very raw steak – he had been craving raw meat all day with the full moon tomorrow.

After finishing dinner, he sat down by the fire, thinking about the day he'd had with Harry and said "Prongs, Harry's a good kid. He'll be just fine."
