Two years later on a Saturday afternoon Howard was at home hard at work on his Ph.D thesis. There was a knock on the front door, Bernadette opened it.

"Hello Sara and Simon, come on in, good to see you again. Howie, we have some visitors."

Bernadette said, as she led the visitors into the living room "Howard is busy with his Ph.D thesis, as you can see he is using the same system that I used."

The living room was strewn with piles of books and papers, Howard had three laptops open.

Sara said "I see what you mean Dr. Rostenkowski-Wolowitz, hello Mr. Wolowitz, how is the thesis going?"

"Hello Sara and Simon, it's going slowly, as I am sure you will remember."

Bernadette said "I will make some tea and coffee, please sit down if you can find a somewhere to sit under all those papers."

Next day at Caltech Sara called Howard "we have a meeting with Professor Suzuki in 30 minutes, be there!"

30 minutes later in the Professor's office.

"Greetings Howard and Sara, please sit down. I understand you are writing up your thesis Howard? How is going?"

"It's going slowly."

"Let me guess, you are overwhelmed and have no idea when or if you will ever finish? Don't worry, everyone feels like that, I certainly did and I imagine your wife has been telling you the same."

"She certainly has, so has Sara."

"It was hard enough for me writing up as a full-time student, doing it and working full time as well must be incredibly tough."

Sara said "We want you to get your Ph.D finished as soon as possible."

Suzuki "So we propose to give you a three month sabbatical in the New Year so you can get it finished properly. It is October now, work as normal up to the end of the year and get as much thesis writing done as possible. Then in the New Year you can have to the beginning of April to concentrate on your thesis."

Howard "Thank you Professor, that is a very kind offer. What if someone needs my help in those three months?"

Sara "Tell them to contact me, if I can't help then I will find someone else who can."
