i re-read the last chapter and it shows
sorry about that (not really)
The Tornado was built for one person. Only one. Tails was usually the one flying it. Sonic didn't really need his plane, so the fox hadn't bothered to put another seat in it. When the duo would traverse the skies, the hedgehog would usually wing-walk and sit on one of the beautiful metal wings of Tails's prized vehicle. However, when three children need to fly to another country as fast as possible on a potential time limit, there really isn't any time to add more seats to the biplane. Which all three sorely regretted.
They almost lost Knuckles. The high-speed winds of the upper stratosphere nearly swept the echidna off the plane. He would have fallen to his death if Amy hadn't caught him. She had been barely quick enough to grab his hand when he lost his grip. Both of the kids had simply clamped onto the metal beams and hung on for dear life after that. They were infinitely relieved when the plane landed on the ground of the Central City park. Neither of the air-sick kids questioned the legality of the "landing strip" as they slid off of the bow and onto the plush grass underneath.
"I don't want to do that again, Tails." Knuckles grumbled, burying his muzzle into the sweet-smelling earth. Miles jumped down.
"I'm sorry Knuckles, but if you want me to transport you around, it'll happen again. Besides, I'm sure you'll get used to it, Sonic does it all the time with me." The fox answered sympathetically. The scowl that appeared on the red face was absolutely priceless. The echidna hated being outdone by Sonic. Amy didn't even move. She just laid face-down in the grass breathing heavily.
Tails whipped out his receiver. The steady blink of the tracking icon reassured the fox that Sonic was indeed in the area. He was on the move, perhaps running from G.U.N forces. Gosh how Miles hoped he was okay.
"He's going that way!" Tails yelped, spinning his fluffy yellow appendages to lift him into the air. "Hopefully we can catch him if we play this right."
"Catch? Sonic?" Knuckles snorted incredulously, pushing himself off the ground. "You'd have more luck catching a fly with chopsticks."
"But it is possible." Amy groaned. She too began to pick herself up.
"We have to hurry, if we delay any further it will be a whole lot harder! He's going downtown." Miles shouted. A blast of air smacked the two remaining mobians as the fox glided off at an impressive speed. Amy and Knuckles looked at each other briefly before taking off after him. The fox was right afterall.
"If we run at the right angle, and if Sonic doesn't change his trajectory, we will cross his path in approximately two minutes!" Tails shouted over the wind. He looked behind him to see how the others were doing.
"Tails I don't know what you're saying, but I hope you're right." Knuckles shouted, Amy slung haphazardly over his right shoulder. Tails looked back to his device. The icon blinked up at him steadily. It moved along at a steady pace before... Hold on a second... The spinning limbs stopped as the fox gently landed on the pavement.
"What is it?" The Echidna asked, placing his cargo on her feet. Tails just stared at the screen.
"Is something wrong?" Amy questioned, meandering her way up to the fox.
"Sonic slowed down."
"Thank goodness. Now we don't have to run at a ridiculous pace to try and keep up with him." Knuckles sighed, allowing himself to slouch slightly in relief.
"No Knuckles, you don't understand. Why would Sonic slow down? If he was on the run, why would he let the enemy catch up? Something isn't adding up." Tails pointed out. He lifted the tracker into the air.
"Maybe he just got tired." Amy added.
"No… that's not very likely." Tails answered. "If he slows down, then he needs a reason to."
"Well, where is he?" The pink hedgehog asked.
"It appears he is near downtown - shopping and food district." Came the reply.
"He could be caught in a crowd…" Knuckles hypothesized.
"Well there is really only one way to find out." Miles answered, hovering over the ground once again. "We gotta go get him."
The two older children sighed. Green eyes met purple before deciding on an answer.
"Well...lead the way then."
