Ch 7 Gaining Confidence
Kweli let out a roar as he prepared to kill Rani. But before he could another thunderous roar echoed through the air. Kweli looked up only to be met by the paw of Kion, who struck the tan coated lion hard in his face, sending him crashing to the ground. "You dare come into my lands and attack my mate!" Kion snarled, him amber eyes filled with fury as he hit Kweli once again. Kweli roared in pain as he fell to the ground once again. "I'll teach you a lesson you won't soon forget," Kion growled as he pounced on Kweli, pinning him to the ground. "Why are you here rogue?!" Kion demanded, putting his face inches from Kweli's.
"Heh wouldn't you like to know," Kweli coughed out as he spat out blood.
"Wrong answer," Kion hissed, digging his claws into Kweli's chest and dragging them down. Kweli gritted his teeth as he struggled not to cry out in pain. The tan coated lion tried pushing Kion off of him but was unable to. Even though Kion was smaller than Kweli he was stronger than he was especially in his enraged state. "I'll ask again rogue," Kion growled. "Why are you here?"
"To right a wrong," was Kweli's response. "And if I were you Kion I wouldn't worry about me. You have way bigger problems than me. Like Makucha and his friends. He's gonna destroy you and everyone you love and there's nothin' you can do about it!"
"I wouldn't be on that," Kion hissed.
"I'm just one of many creatures he's recruited," Kweli informed the King. "And you'll never see them coming. Just like you're stupid mate never saw me coming. She fell right for my trap like the idiot she is." Kweli let out a cruel laugh when he said this part. This caused Kion to become enraged even more.
"I'll kill you for that!" he roared, raising his paw and slashing Kweli's throat, killing him.
"Kion!" a voice cried out from behind him. Kion turned around and saw that Rani had regained consciousness and was staring at him with wide brown eyes. "I..I can't believe you just did that!" the Queen cried out.
"I had to 'Ani," Kion said, getting off of Kweli's body. "He attacked you and tried to kill you. That's punishable by death."
"Not in these lands," Rani declared. "This isn't the Pride Lands Kion. We don't go around killing creatures without giving them a proper trial."
"Rani I was defending you," Kion said, shocked that his mate was angry with him. "And you can't tell me that you wouldn't have done the same thing if you were in my position." Rani opened her mouth to respond but no words came out. "That's what I thought," Kion said, his voice low. "You would have done the same thing I did. So you have no right to be angry with me. Especially when I finally did something right."
"Did something right?" Rani repeated, her voice also coming out low. "You think killing someone is doing something right?!"
"I proved to myself that I can defend those I love even without my Roar," Kion declared. "I was really doubting myself 'Ani but this made me gain some of my confidence back."
"So what you're just going to go around killing everyone that breaks the rules around here?" Rani demanded. "That's not what we do here Kion. The Tree of Life is a place of healing not a place of death."
"Look Rani I'm not going to argue with you about this anymore!" Kion growled, glaring at his mate. "I know what the Tree of Life is for and no I'm not going to go around killing everyone that breaks the rules. That would make me a monster. You don't think I'm a monster do you?" Kion's voice had gotten softer by now and he was looking at Rani with pleading amber eyes.
"Of course I don't think you're a monster," Rani said, giving her mate a nuzzle. "Its just that killing someone is so unlike you Kion. You're usually against such violence."
"I still am," Kion reassured his mate. "And trust me Rani I won't be making a habit of this."
"Well good," Rani said with a smile. "And I'm sorry I yelled at you Kion. I should have been thanking you instead of berating you."
"Its alright," Kion said, giving his mate another nuzzle. "Now lets get this body out of here." With that the King and Queen disposed of Kweli's body before the other animals could see it. After cleaning themselves up the Royal Couple began to walk back to the Tree.
"Kweli told me he was working with Makucha," Rani informed her mate.
"Yeah he told me the same thing," Kion said. "He also said the Makucha had more allies than him. And that we'd never see them coming."
"Did he say who they were?" Rani asked.
"Well no he didn't," Kion admitted. "I killed him before I could ask."
"Well that was pretty dumb," Rani said, without even thinking about it. "You should have at least questioned him before you went all savage on him."
"Are we back on this again?" Kion snapped.
"Were we ever off of it?" Rani asked. "I mean you haven't even said you were sorry."
"For what?!" Kion demanded. "For protecting you?!"
"For acting like a complete savage!" Rani shouted.
"I didn't act like a savage Rani!" Kion shouted. "I was protecting you! Why can't you see that?!" By now Sarak and Baliyo had come onto the scene along with Beshte, Bunga, Binga, Ono, Fuli, Azaad, Anga and Nala.
"What the heck is going on here?" Bunga demanded.
"Yeah why are you two fighting?" Ono asked.
"Kion went against the traditions of the Tree of Life," Rani informed the group. "He killed another creature."
"After he attacked you!" Kion cried out. "I only killed him because he tried to kill you Rani!"
"Is this true Rani?" Sarak asked, looking at his niece.
"Well yeah it is," Rani admitted. "And don't get me wrong I'm grateful and thankful that Kion was there."
"Sure doesn't sound like it," Fuli muttered.
"Fuli please don't start anything," Azaad hissed, giving his mate a look. "This is between Rani and Kion."
"But we can't go against what the Tree of Life stands for," Rani continued, ignoring what Fuli had said.
"You just said you weren't mad at me," Kion pointed out. "It wasn't five minutes ago that you were saying that you should be thanking me not berating me. And yet here you are berating me. And in front of everyone too!"
"Rani perhaps you and Kion should continue your conversation somewhere more private," Sarak suggested
"Its ok Sarak," Kion said, glaring at his mate. "I want everyone to hear how unreasonable my mate is being!"
"Look Kion I get it," Rani said. "You didn't grow up around here so you're used to the way your father did things. But we aren't barbaric like that here."
"My father isn't a barbarian Rani!" Kion growled. "He very rarely killed any creature. And the times he did it was because he was protecting the ones he loves!"
"Kion honey I think you need to take a step back and calm down," Nala said gently.
"Yeah I think you do too sis," Baliyo said. "Before you say something..."
"You know Kion," Rani said, ignoring her brother. "If you really feel that way then maybe you should go back to the Pride Lands!"
"Stupid," Baliyo finished with a groan as he shut his eyes and ran his paw over his face.
"I think I'll do that!" Kion shouted back. "Cause right now I really don't want to be around you Rani! C'mon Mom we're going back home right now! And anyone else who wants to join should come too!" Kion looked at his friends when he said this part.
"I'm with ya Kion," Bunga said, although he was still confused to what was going on.
"Yeah same here," Fuli said with a nod.
"Now wait a minute here," Beshte said as he limped over to his his friends. "Lets not make any rash decisions here. Especially ones we might regret."
"I agree with Beshte," Sarak chimed in. "You both are angry right now and when one is angry its not the time to make decisions such as this."
"I agree too," Azaad put in. "Rani and Kion both need to calm down and collect themselves before anything is decided."
"Kion wouldn't you agree with them?" Nala asked, looking at her son.
"Yeah sis they have a good point don't you think?" Baliyo asked, looking at his sister. Both Rani and Kion let out sighs.
"Fine," the Royal Couple said together. "We'll wait."
"But I highly doubt it'll change anything," Rani said, glaring at her mate.
"Yeah same here," Kion said, as he also glared at his mate.
"Oh and by the way Kion," Rani said as she headed back into the Tree. "You'll be sleeping outside the Tree tonight."
"Fine with me!" Kion hissed as he headed for a spot right outside the Tree. His friends and Nala hesitated on going inside, not wanting to leave him alone. "You guys go on," the King said. "No sense in all of us being cold tonight."
"You sure buddy?" Bunga asked.
"Yeah I'm sure," Kion said with a smile. With that the group went inside the Tree leaving Kion with a lot of thinking to do.
