DM Margo Alone Chapter 8
Lucy came back later just as her daughter was unwrapping a giant stuffed lion toy. ''Now Margo'' she said, ''How about some breakfast? I can make something special''. "Yes, please, Mom," Margo said. Soon Margo was eating away at her pancakes with maple syrup.
''Luscious!'' she said, ''Thanks Mom! This makes up for the scary parts of being home alone!''. ''That's all right honey'' said Lucy, ''I'm just glad you're ok''. Margo smiled. ''Now I'm gonna need a good rest and a sit down this morning'' said Lucy when Margo went up to clean her teeth and get dressed.
When Margo came back down after getting dressed, Lucy said, ''So Margo, what did you think of being the lady of the house?''. ''It had its ups and downs Mom'' Margo replied, ''But eventually it just got too scary''. ''Yes'' said Lucy, ''Well after lunch, why don't go to the park for some fresh before Christmas dinner?''. ''That'll be nice Mom'' said Margo.
That afternoon, Lucy and Margo walked to the park where Margo had gone sledging. They saw many children with their parents playing together in the snow. Sledging, snowball fight, making snow angels and making a snowman. Lucy put her arm round her daughter and held her close as they walked along. Margo had never felt so glad to be with her mom in all her life as they walked up the snowy hill.
''You ever tried going sledging?'' Lucy asked, ''I was quite good at it when I was your age and I enjoyed it. My parents were ever so proud of me''. ''Yes Mom I did try sledging here in the park while you were away?'' Margo admitted. ''Ah I bet you enjoyed that honey'' said Lucy.
"Yeah, but I'm going to enjoy it even more when you come on the sled with me and we'll go down the hill together for the best mother daughter activity!" Margo thrilled. ''We can do that any time of the year at an indoor snow centre'' Lucy pointed out. Margo smiled excitedly.
''Plus we can do the same sort of thing on the sort of attractions they have at Oceans Universe'' Lucy added. It was beginning to get dark by the time Lucy and Margo made their way home. As they went inside, Margo saw Mr Malvern with his son, daughter in law and granddaughter.
He had taken Margo's advice in the church about talking to his son and now they were reconciled just in time for Christmas. Mr Malvern waved to Margo and she waved back and smiled warmly before shutting the door behind her. Margo helped her mom to make the Christmas dinner and they had a lovely meal.
''Merry Christmas sweetie'' said Lucy holding out a cracker to pull with Margo. "Merry Christmas, Mom," Margo replied. ''I take it you don't mind having Christmas day with just the two of us this year?'' Lucy said. "Don't mind at all," Margo said happily. ''That's my girl!'' beamed Lucy. She grabbed her daughter and gave a noogie.
''Mom!'' Margo groaned. But inside she was smiling. ''I'm just proud of you'' Lucy soothed, ''Ya know that don't you?''. "Yeah, Mom, I do," Margo chuckled softly. As they ate their trifle for dessert, Margo said ''This is a Christmas I'll never forget!''.
Lucy and a sleepy Margo sat looking out of the window at the pretty image of the snow that lay on the ground at night. No matter how much snow had fallen, Margo belonged to Lucy this very night. Margo began to yawn tiredly. ''Come on, my sleepy baby'' Lucy chuckled, picking up her daughter and carrying her upstairs, ''Let's get you washed and ready for bed. I think you're tired out''.
Lucy ran Margo a nice warm bath. Then she brushed Margo's hair and Margo cleaned her teeth. The heat of the bath had made Margo feel even more tired so Lucy carried her to her bed and tucked her up under the bed covers. ''Goodnight honey, sleep tight'' said Lucy kissing Margo on the head.
"Goodnight, Mom," Margo said, falling to sleep. "I love you". ''I love you too'' Lucy said on the way out, ''See you in the morning''. She shut off the light and gently closed the squeaky door shut. A couple of days later, the rest of the family came back. "BAAAAAHHH!" Lucky bleated loudly. Gru, Dru, Edith, Agnes and all the minions had picked up Lucky and the two dogs on their way home from the airport.
"Dad!" Margo cried, running toward Gru. "Margo!" Gru exclaimed. He picked her hug and gave her a hug. ''You're all right!''. ''Hi Margo'' Edith said, ''It's pretty cool you didn't burn the place down like I could have done!''. ''Yes'' Margo agreed. ''Hey how did you guys get home?'' asked Lucy.
''We took the morning flight on the day we were meant to come home'' said Gru, ''The one you didn't want to wait for''. Blondie gave Margo a loving lick in the face, ''Ugh!'' Margo giggled, ''Blondie! Ok Ok, I missed you too''. ''So Margo, what did you get up to while we were away?'' Gru asked.
''I fought off old enemies, Balthazar Bratt and El Macho to stop them robbing the house'' Margo said. "WHAAT?!" Gru shouted. ''You're kidding!'' gasped Dru. Then Lucy thought of something, ''Oh someone needs to find an open store. We don't even have any milk here''. ''Don't worry Mom, I went shopping while you were away'' said Margo, ''I brought some milk, eggs and fabric softener''.
''You went shopping?'' asked Lucy in surprise. "Yup," Margo said. ''No kidding'' said Gru, ''What a funny gal!''. But Lucy smiled in delight. ''So Margo'' said Gru, ''What actually happened with Bratt and El Macho?''. ''I set up all these booby traps for them'' Margo replied.
Gru, Dru and Lucy are amazed. ''Cool!'' said Edith, ''I only wish I could have been there to see it all!''. Gru put his arm around Margo and looked her in the eye. ''You are so brave, my warrior'' he said, ''You certainly made the best of an unexpected situation of being home alone ''. ''I'm just glad you're all back!'' Margo said happily, ''Merry Christmas!''.
