"I like this. We should make this a tradition" Cathi said, smiling as she hung an ornament on the large tree in Myles' home.
Myles slightly smiled. "Alright, as long as you help me pick out the tree."
She nodded. "You got a deal. Now, help me with this garland. It's beautiful, but heavy."
"It was my Mothers." He explained, picking up one end as she picked up the other.
"Oh?" She asked, cocking her head to the side.
Myles nodded. "It graced every Leland tree there was during my childhood. About 5 years ago, she gave it to me, to try and entice me to settle down, get married, have kids, and a home Christmas."
Cathi smiled at the description. "And did it?"
"No." He replied, chucking and shaking his head. "Not in the least. But I like putting it on the tree. It reminds me of my childhood.
She smiled at their hard work as they finished putting the garland on the tree, and stood back. The tree was almost finished. "There's nothing like Christmas as a kid, huh?"
"Nope." He replied, also admiring the tree.
"Let's finish!" Cathi excitedly relied, jumping back to the ornament work.
"Coming, let me just answer this call." He replied, taking out his ringing phone. "Leland. Yeah. OK. Be there soon." He said, then hung up. "I'm sorry, but I have to go."
Cathi pouted, giving the most pathetic look she could muster. "Work?" He sadly nodded. "Go, go save the world. I'll finish the tree."
He gratefully smiled at her, then leaned to give her a kiss on the cheek. "Thank you, I owe you." He said, then quickly left the room to get ready to leave.
"Yes, you do!" She called after him.
?-?
"Hello." Sarah said to her computer.
"What?" Jack asked. When Mya called about the newest letter, everyone came into the office to do anything and everything they could to find the identity of who could be behind it.
"Remember when I said I couldn't find any dance rivals of note yesterday?"
Jack nodded. "Yeah."
"Well, I still can't, but I found something interesting. One of the teachers she hired, Cara Grey, was, in fact an old competitor. They competed head-to-head all the way up to state, when an injury took Cara out of the competition, out of professional dance forever."
"Oof," Bobby winced. "That can really put a dent in the relationship."
"Yeah, it seems like they were friends until the accident, which in this old article here, Cara blames Francesca, saying she tripped her up as they were practicing. They didn't seem to be in contact for years, until about 6 months ago, when Cara was hired."
"What would make a person want to work at a place owned by the person she hated?" Jack asked, confused by the turn of events.
"It seems like she was having a hard time paying the bills, and the job was a lifesaver. She almost lost her house." Sarah continued, looking at Cara's records.
"Let's have SOG watch her. I think this is someone that definitely has motive. I'm just not sure about means.
"I think I just found that." Sarah replied.
"What?"
"She has a cousin that just got out of prison two weeks ago. He was in there for creating a bomb."
Everyone looked at each other. This threat just got all too real.
?-?
That evening, the team camped out across the street from the studio. They watched as the students, instructors, and eventually Francesca, walked out of the studio, and drive away. They kept on watching, but no one else went in or out. Soon, it was close to 11. Francesca left to get something to eat, then joined the team. They did not tell her who their suspect was at the time.
"What is SOG seeing?" Jack asked Mya, who was in the surveillance van, cameras on just about every angle of the building.
"She hasn't left her home, looks like a normal night for her." She replied.
He frowned. "Then who is going to meet her?" He asked himself.
"You ready?" Sue asked Francesca as they prepared her. Bobby and Myles were going ahead of her, but they were taking precautions, giving her a Kevlar vest and mic under her coat.
"As ready as I'll ever be." She replied. Tara, who had joined them, interpreted, since she had a mask on.
"You'll do fine." Sue replied, smiling through her mask.
Francesca took a deep breath.
"We're ready for you." Bobby said, signing READY.
Sue nodded at him, then turned to Francesca again. "Good luck."
Francesca nervously nodded, following Bobby and Myles across the street.
"I still don't see anything. Wait, I think I just saw a flash of something!" Mya said, looking at one of the screens.
"Where?" Jack asked, scanning.
"Back entrance. It looked like someone leaving, not coming in. I must've missed them going in." She replied.
"If they were meeting her, why would they be leaving?" He thought to himself aloud.
By this time, Bobby, Myles and Francesca were at the front entrance, she opening the doors. "Walking to the office." Myles said quietly as they walked inside, guns at the ready. Once they got to the office, they put their backs against the wall, and motioned for her to do the same. Bobby noticed a dim light at the bottom of the doorway. He pointed to it, and Myles nodded.
"It looks like a laser trip wire. We're not going in, call bomb squad." Bobby said as they slowly moved back.
"Calling now." Mya confirmed, dialing from the van.
About a minute later, the three emerged, and came back across the street.
"Who could've done this?" Francesca asked Sue and Tara, in shock of the reality, what might've been if they weren't there to protect her. Tara interpreted.
Sue looked at Jack, speaking with her eyes.
"TELL HER SHOULD." He replied. "TOMORROW."
Sue nodded. It was time to figure all the little details of this case.
