Erin walked back into the kitchen to see Hailey and Jay both laughing, Hailey looked, happy which was such a change from her usual reserved look. Jay also seemed to be enjoying himself and Erin looked as they continued to cook dinner.

"Yea well you can get it if you can reach it" Jay joked and Hailey rolled her eyes

"I'm not that short" she joked struggling to get three glasses out from the cupboard and Jay laughed reaching up to grab them

"Your going to smash them" he joked handing them down to her.

Erin thought they looked cute together.

They finished making dinner and all sat round the table.

"Where's your dad" Hailey asked them

"He had to work a late shift" Erin said and she nodded.

"You know what I heard today" jay said and they asked what

"Apparently Adam asked Kim out this evening, they will probably break the news tomorrow at school but Kev told me" Jay said and Erin was shocked

"Well that was obvious" Hailey said not looking up

"What do you mean" Erin asked

"Yea I would of never seen those two coming" Jay said and Hailey looked up

"Seriously, it was so obvious. When I first met you guys I assumed they were already dating, it wasn't until I asked Vanessa that I found out they weren't" Hailey said

"I mean if I think about it there was signs" Erin said

"Can't believe we have known them for so long and yet didn't suspect anything" Jay asked

"How long have you guys all known each other" Hailey asked

"Jay, Kevin and Adam all grew up together and then I met them five years ago. I met Kim shortly after and she soon became apart of the group and then Vanessa we met about a year ago" Erin said

"What about you, did you have any friends at your old school" Jay asked

Hailey laughed slightly "no they weren't very friendly there" Hailey said

"How come you went there first and not this school" Jay asked and Erin wasn't sure if they were pushing Hailey to far but at the same time was curious.

"Um, my parents couldn't afford anything else, when my brother moved to New York though he was able to help out my parents and I managed to move schools, he also went to my old school when he was younger and hated it so he was happy to help" Hailey said, it was no surprise that her family struggled financially just based on we're she lived and the fact that she could even afford lunch which cost essential nothing at their school, their school also wasn't very expensive for a school in fact it was slightly cheaper than the average school. It was weird because Erin had never really considered herself to be someone who took money for granted she also thought she understood what financial struggle was but until she met Hailey she didn't realise how much she actually had. Vanessa also had problems some times with money coming from foster care but not nearly as much as Hailey's family did.

They talked for a while before going into the lounge and playing a game. The landed up playing Cluedo.

When Hank arrived home he opened the door to his favourite sound, he heard laughing coming from the lounge as he walked through the door.

"Hey dad, hey aunt Trudy" Jay said

"Hey" Erin said and Hailey looked up her smile immediately dropped at the sight of Trudy, she suddenly became quite and nervous because she new how much Trudy new.

Hank saw Hailey expression and kind of felt bad for making the girl feel uncomfortable but what really took him by surprise was the very noticeable black eye she had.

Hank asked jay and Erin if he could help with the shopping he had brought in the kitchen to give the two of them some space.

"What are you doing here" Hailey asked curiously when everyone had left

"I work with Hank" Trudy said

"Love the new look, or should I say old look" Trudy said referring to her black eye and Hailey's eyes dropped to the floor and she shifted uncomfortably. Trudy felt bad because her intentions were not to make the kid feel uncomfortable or nervous, in fact she was glad that Hailey had a safe space away from home and she didn't want to ruin that.

"Hey I'm not going to say anything, don't worry I'm just hanks friend visiting" Trudy assured her and she nodded

"What happened" Trudy asked

"It's nothing" Hailey said

"That's not telling me what happened though" Trudy said

Hailey didn't answer avoiding eye contact. It wasn't that she didn't like Trudy but everything she hid and hated from her life, every secret, every situation that's happened, everything about her family this women new. It was like having all your worries and fear stored in one woman's brain.

"How's your brother" she changed the subject "liking New York"

Hailey nodded her head.

"And your mom" Trudy asked, from what she could tell Hailey's mother had never suffered under her husbands hand but she couldn't be one hundred percent sure seeing what he did to his daughter.

"She fine" Hailey said

"That's good" Trudy replied.

"Come let's go help in the kitchen" Trudy suggested and Hailey stood up from her place on the floor. Hailey completely forgot about her ribs and when she stood up quickly it felt as though someone was stabbing her with a burning knife into her rib cage over and over again. Hailey sucked in a breathe squeezed her eyes shut and just stood there for a moment holding her ribs trying to control the pain. Trudy noticed and her heart broke for the young girl.

"You okay Hailey" Trudy asked and Hailey just nodded concentrating to much on controlling the pain to talk. After a couple minutes the pain weakened and she saw Trudy waiting for an explanation

"They're just a bit bruised, I forgot and stood up to quickly" Hailey said and Trudy nodded they walked through to the kitchen.

Hailey knew that Trudy said she wasn't going to say anything but it wasn't what she was going to say now that freaked her out it was what she had already said to Hank that scared her. She only had one year left till she turned eighteen and leave and she wanted nothing more than to get through that year so she can move to New York with Danny and start her new life there and as much as Hailey hated saying it she wished now that she had never left her old school because people there didn't give a flip if she was bleeding out on the floor. Hailey knew that if she wanted to survive this next year without serious problems she was going to need to distance herself from her friend group, especially Erin, Hailey had found out in a round about way about the fact Erin had been taken in by Voight and now understood why she cared so much to help Hailey but Hailey didn't need or want her help and as they all said once Erins made up her mind that's it, so she decided tomorrow she couldn't consider then her friends anymore she needed to create barriers again, she allowed herself to get to comfortable with theses people and she can't let that happen again.
