Ch. 14: Not Quite Dead
The ring in the tube began to glow. A spirit emerged from the ring and took on a humanoid shape.
"Harry Potter, it's been so long. See what I've become?"
"And you are...?"
"I am Lord Voldemort."
"Oh right, that Tom Riddle guy."
"You dare to call me by my old name?!" he shrieked, but quickly composed himself, "You and I share a history, you know."
"I'm aware you killed my parents. Even if that wasn't the case, you're the one behind all the trouble lately, and I'm going to stop you. You and your cronies, that is."
"Yeah, look," Draco said, "I don't have a personal connection to this, so what exactly do you want?"
"You're Draco Malfoy. You come from an important family."
"Tell me something I don't know. Like why your subordinates are so badly dressed. So what are you, a ghost?"
"No, I didn't die, but I am a spirit. The energy I absorbed has sustained me, but it will take more than that to give me a new body. On top of that, I intend to get revenge on Harry Potter."
"What did I do?"
"The night I killed your parents was the night I lost my physical form. Such are the penalties of a Shadow Game."
"That sounds like a personal problem, but seeing as how you've been causing so much trouble, I'd be happy to duel your henchmen again."
"NO! I will deal with you myself."
"Master," Quirrell said, "You are not strong enough."
"I am strong enough for this."
His spirit entered Quirrell's body, causing his eyes to glow red. He took off the turban to reveal a gold circlet around Quirrell's head. It had the same eye symbol as the ring in the machine.
"Do all members of your club get a shiny trinket?" Harry asked.
"At least he finally took off that stupid hat," Draco snarked.
Voldemort sneered, "I had intended to only take my rage out on Harry Potter, but frankly I'm sick of your smart mouth, Draco. It seems that both of you are very similar to your fathers."
"Nah," Draco replied, "I try to be more witty. Father just straight up insults people."
Voldemort's eye twitched, "I am going to -"
Just then the door to the roof swung open. Out came Ron, Hermione, and Neville.
"Whoa," Ron said, "What have we been missing?"
"Professor Quirrell?" Hermione said, "You were behind this?"
Ron pointed at Peter, "That must be the famous Peter Pettigrew. He looks like a rat."
"I'll try to give you the abridged version," Harry said, "Quirrell and Pettigrew are the ones who put everyone in the hospital to power that machine to give Tom Riddle a body. We wiped the floor with his subordinates, but now he's taken over Quirrell's body and wants to duel me himself. That is what you're about to do, isn't it?"
Quirrell/Voldemort looked very annoyed, "Yes, that's the idea. You and the Malfoy boy."
"Me?" Draco responded, dripping with sarcasm, "Why I'd be honored."
"You're friends will remain neutral. Peter, you watch the machine. Do you have my deck?"
"As you requested, Master."
His eyes flickered, and Quirrell seemed to be in control again.
"What do you mean a new deck? What's wrong with mine?"
His eyes turned red again, "Think, you fool, Potter knows your strategy now. We must change things to make extra sure we defeat him."
Harry sighed, "Come on, Draco."
"If I have to."
"Harry," Hermione said, "You're not taking this very seriously."
Harry whispered a reply, "If I start to take this seriously, I might get stressed out. Besides, I don't want to give this smeghead the satisfaction."
"Are you ready, Harry Potter?"
"Sure thing, ugly. Ready, Draco?"
"Yeah, sure."
"Well then you won't mind if I make this a Shadow Game to make it interesting."
The circlet around Quirrell's head began to glow, and the surrounding area grew darker. Neville sank to the ground, while Hermione and Ron held hands without realizing.
"Did it just get colder out here?" Draco asked.

"As your senior, I shall go first."
"Very very senior," Harry remarked.
His eyes narrowed, but he didn't respond, "I play Pot of Greed, and then I summon Grand Spider."

The area became a digital landscape.

"I set three cards and end my turn."
Hermione looked over at Ron and noticed he kept shuddering.
"They're not real spiders, Ron," she whispered.
"That doesn't make me any feel better," he said back, "They're so ugly...and big."
She didn't know what to say, so instead she simply held his hand. Ron froze up, but then turned to look at her.
"It's nothing to be ashamed of, Ron. Does this make you feel any better?"
He simply nodded, and then turned his head back to the duel. He took a deep breath and felt a lot more relaxed. Neville covered his mouth with his hand so that they couldn't see him smiling at their moment.
Harry noticed them as well, but focused on the duel, "I'll go next this time, Draco."
"Go ahead, Potter."
"I play Pot of Greed, and then I summon Crusader of Endymion."

"Now things are about to get interesting. I shall attack your Apprentice Magician with my Deadly Sin."
The blue spider creeped along, and then pounced on the mage.

Harry fell to his knees in pain, "What was that?"
"This is a Shadow Game, Harry. When you take damage, you feel pain."
"Lucky me."
"Back to the game. At the end of the Damage Step, if my Deadly Sin attacked, I can make it gain 300 attack, and then increase its rank by 3."

"When my Apprentice Magician is destroyed by battle, I can special summon one level 2 or lower Spellcaster monster from my deck in face-down defense position."
"I discard a card to activate the quick-play spell Action Magic - Double Banking. I can make a second attack. This time I shall destroy The Tricky."
The great blue spider once again crawled across the field and pounced atop the Spellcaster. Harry winced at the pain again.

An energy ball shot out, splitting into two to target the Crusader and the Dragon. Spider webs fell from the sky to drag the monsters to the graveyard.
Voldemort smirked, "I end my turn."
"I summon Debris Dragon."

The old mage sent a blast of magic at the tarantula. The great spider fell over on its back and disappeared..
"Now I Tune Debris Dragon with Apprentice Magician and Old Vindictive Magician. The hopes of the world coalesce into a single star! I Synchro summon my Stardust Dragon!"

A feminine figure emerged from the ground. She had long arms and antennae, pointy ears, and half her face was covered by a mask. After a few seconds, the ground beneath her shook. Her entire lower body was a huge spider.

"Why is it a Dark Synchro summon when your monster is Earth-type?" asked Harry.
Voldemort ignored the question, "Once per turn, I can select one face-up monster the opponent controls and equip it to this card. I choose Red Daemon's Dragon."
The spider shot a line of web at the dragon and yanked it across the field. The poor dragon was stuck to the ground, while the spider crawled atop its body.
"Now I shall attack your Stardust Dragon."
"I activate my trap Buster Mode. I tribute my Stardust Dragon to special summon Stardust Dragon/Buster."

Stardust Dragon was now wearing pieces of armor. The spider was still charging at the dragon, only to be blown away with a blast of wind.

Voldemort shrugged off the pain, "If my monster would be destroyed by battle, the equipped monster is destroyed instead. I end my turn."
"Well that trick won't save you now," Harry said, "I attack your Arachne with my dragon. Assault Sonic Burn!"
Stardust punched the Arachne across the field. Voldemort looked annoyed, seemingly ignoring the pain.

"I summon Clock Resonator."

A demon holding a tuning fork and a hammer now appeared. This one had a giant clock on its back.

A demon in a purple, moon and star adorned, outfit leapt onto the field. Its face was covered with a mask. It held a staff tipped with a crescent moon.
"When this King is normal or special summoned, I can target a monster either that I control or in my graveyard; until the end of this turn, this card's level becomes the same as that monster's. I choose my Vice Dragon in the graveyard, so now Moon Star is level 5."

"Next I play the spell Pot of Avarice. I return five monsters in my graveyard to my deck and draw two cards. Now I'll Tune Clock Resonator with Moon Star to Synchro summon my Red Daemon's Dragon again."
The red dragon snarled as it made a second appearance.
"Now I'll activate my trap Buster Mode. I tribute my Red Daemon's Dragon to special summon Red Daemon's Dragon/Buster."

"I knew that was going to happen," Harry said, "I activate my trap Sub-Space Matter Transporter. I banish my Stardust until the End Phase."
"Smart move, Potter. I end my turn."
"I activate my trap Xyz Reborn. I can special summon an Xyz monster from my graveyard and attach this card to it as material. Pain Gainer returns to the field. Now I Xyz summon a new monster, Numbers 77: The Seven Sins."

The giant spider-like monster slammed one of its legs into the dragon. Draco gritted his teeth.
"Wait until my father hears about this!"

"When my Red Daemon's Dragon/Buster is destroyed, I can summon the original Red Daemon's Dragon from the graveyard."
"I set a card and end my turn."
"I activate my trap Shooting Star. If a Stardust monster is on the field, I can target one card and destroy it. I select your creepy spider monster."
"Alas, Potter, if my monster would be destroyed by battle or card effect, I can detach one material instead."
"I end my turn. Go ahead, Draco. Let him have it."
"What, and risk my dragon? I set two cards and end my turn."
"I set a monster, and then attack your Stardust monster."
The spider creature now slammed its leg into the other dragon.

"When my Stardust Dragon/Buster is destroyed, I can special summon the original Stardust Dragon from my graveyard."
"I end my turn," he said, voice fill with smugness.
"I activate my trap, Metalization - Magic-Reflection Armor. My Stardust Dragon gains 300 attack and defense."
SD: 2500/2000 - 2800/2300
"Now to attack that...thing. Stardust, attack!"
"Why so eager to die, Potter?"
"My equipped trap has it gain half the attack of the attack target."
SD: 2800/2300 - 4800/2300
"No!"
"Stardust Dragon, Shooting Sonic!"
Stardust shot a beam from its mouth and blasted the spider away. Voldemort looked angry, but shrugged off the pain.

"I end my turn. I await your contribution, Draco."
"You're about to get it. I summon Lance Lindwurm."

"My new dragon will attack that face-down monster, and do piercing damage while he's at it."

The red dragon made a fist and slammed the ground in front of Voldemort. He fell to the ground, but soon got back up.

"I set a card and end my turn."
"Master, I cannot take the pain," Quirrell cried.
"Do as I command, Quirrell!"
"If you two are through arguing, I thought you were going to make this challenging, Tom. Attack him directly, Stardust Dragon."
"I activate my trap, A Hero Emerges. You choose a card from my hand. If it's a monster, I can special summon it from my hand."
Harry sighed, "That one."
"I special summon TM-1 Launcher Spider in defense mode."

A huge mechanical spider mounted with rocket launchers now appeared.
"That won't stop my Stardust. My trap kicks in."

Stardust shot a beam from its mouth to annihilate the robot spider.
"I end my turn."
"Red Daemon's Dragon, attack him directly!"
Once more, the red dragon slammed the ground in front of Voldemort. This time he let out a small scream.

"Now it's your turn, Lance Lindwurm."
"I don't think so, Malfoy. I activate my trap, Sacrifice of Honor (Offering to the Immortals). Your attack is negated, I summon two Sacrificial Stone-Monument Tokens..."

Two stone tokens of South American design now stood on the field.
"...and I add an Earthbound God to my hand."
"I'm sorry, a what now?"
"It's a powerful archetype, Draco," Harry explained, "There are seven of them, each with a nasty effect."
"Their design is based on the Nazca Lines in Peru," Hermione piped up.
"Oh, okay," Draco replied, "Well that's whatever. I end my turn."
"I assure you, dear boy," Voldemort said, "It's a very big deal, in more ways than one. I tribute my two tokens to summon the Ace up my sleeve. Now is the time for your advent, Earthbound God Uru!"
A device was now hovering over the field. It was beating like a heart.
"What is that supposed to be?" Draco questioned.
"Dear boy, this is the heart of a God."
The tokens disappeared, sucked into the heart-like device. Next the entire landscape seemed to shake. Purple fire spouted from all around them. A huge black shape with red lines began to emerged from the earth. Its head stretched ever higher, and four great pillars on either side began to emerge as well. Those pillars were legs, because it was in fact a colossal spider, bigger even than the main academy building. Ron was frozen in shock.
All Hermione could say was, "That is a very big spider."
All Neville could say was, "Whoa."
Draco looked more annoyed than worried, "Bugger."
Uru looked down at the battlefield with its ten massive eyes.
"Behold, Potter, this is true power!"

"Well, look on the bright side, Draco," Harry said, "If the teachers didn't know we were up here before, they definitely do now."
"That's not very reassuring, Potter."
"The best part is that my Earthbound God can attack you directly! Hell Thread!"
The gargantuan spider shot a rain of dark webbing at the duo.
"Time for me to, as the saying goes, save our bacon," Draco said, "I activate my trap, Strength Enhancement Drug - Super Z! During damage calculation, when we're about to take 2000 or more battle damage, we first gain 4000 life points!"
HP&DM: 3500 - 7500
HP&DM: 7500 - 4200
Harry and Draco fell backwards from the pain. They both got back up.
"This is getting annoying," Draco griped.
"You only prolong the inevitable. You cannot touch my Earthbound God! You can't even attack me directly. Come my next turn, you will be done for!"
"That's if you reach your next turn," Harry shot back.
"No matter how powerful your monsters might be, they're nothing compared to mine!"
"I've got four words for you, Tom: keep it simple, stupid."
He growled, "I'm going to enjoy watching you suffer."
"I summon Magical Warrior Breaker."

A red-armored mage in a cape, wielding a sword and shield, now appeared on the field. A light on its shield lit up as its effect activated.
"That monster isn't even worth summoning."
Harry ignored him, "When Breaker is normal summoned, he gains a Spell Counter, as well as 300 attack for each Spell Counter."
MWB: 1600/1000 - 1900/1000
Voldemort laughed, "Am I supposed to be impressed?"
"I activate his other effect. I can remove one Spell Counter from this card, and then target one spell or trap on the field; it's now destroyed. I'm targeting your field spell, Bug Matrix."
The technological landscape faded away.
Voldemort looked shocked now, "No. No! NO!"
"That's right," Harry said, "Without a field spell, your Earthbound God is destroyed!"
Uru began twitching in pain as it seemed to crumble under its own weight.
"Quirrell, this is all your fault!"
"But, Master, you were controlling me for the entire duel."
"Silence! Think of something!"
The body seemed like it was broken, twitching back and forth, as if both Quirrell and Voldemort were arguing internally.
"Sorry, but your time is up. It's now my turn. Stardust Dragon, finish them off. Shooting Sonic!"
Stardust shot a blact of air at Voldemort, sending him flying across the field.

The shadows began to circle around Quirrell. They began to burn his body.
"Master, help me!"
Voldemort's spirit had already left Quirrell's body.
"You failed, Quirrell, and now you shall pay the penalty of a Shadow Game. Peter, get me out of here!"
"Yes, Master!"
Peter ran up to the machine and kicked in the glass. He then grabbed the ring and ran for the fire escape. The sky began to light up again. Harry and Draco collapsed.
"Harry," Hermione cried, "Are you okay?"
"The pain from that duel is catching up to me."
"We need to get him to the infirmary...both of them."
"Right," Ron replied, "Neville, you get Harry. I'll handle Malfoy."
As Neville picked Harry up around his shoulders, harry said, "I'm getting déjà vu here."
"Put me down, Weasley," Draco weakly complained, "What'll people say if they see you carrying me?"
Ron rolled his eyes, "Tell you what, I'll avoid being seen by any of the other students, and if anyone asks, you can tell them you crawled to the hospital by yourself."
Draco muttered something under his breath, but it sounded like , "Fine"
Just then, the faculty came through the door.
"It seems quite a duel occurred up here," Dumbledore remarked.
"Right this way, students," McGonagall said, "The hospital awaits."
Harry reached out to Dumbledore," Professor, I have to tell you -"
"All in good time, Harry. You're fatigued. I shall visit you and Mr. Malfoy as soon as possible."
