Fumiko woke up early that day. As she was getting ready to leave, she noticed her father nearby.
"Good morning, father," she said.
"Are you going to start your training today?" he asked.
She nodded her head. "I'm going to be training with my team, along with Minato's."
He puts a hand on her shoulder. "Make sure to along with your team, okay?"
"I will, father!"
Her father smiled and said, "Good luck."
She gave her father a hug, and after saying goodbye, she left to go join with her teammates.
Fumiko arrived to find two of the genin from Minato's team. One of them, a boy with black spiky hair and a pair of goggles on his face, approaches her.
"What's a little girl like you doing here? Are you lost or something?" he asked.
Fumiko, annoyed by this, crosses her arms and pouts. "I'm actually one of the genin from Kushina's team. Are you trying to make fun of me for my age or something?" She stares at him, intimidatingly.
"S-sorry, I didn't know that." He scratches his head and does a nervous smile. "But how come you're already a genin if you're so young?"
"Obito, that's enough!" The other genin scolded. She had shoulder length brown hair, like Fumiko, and brown eyes.
The girl comes up to her and reaches out her hand. "I'm Nohara Rin, and the one over there is Uchiha Obito!" Fumiko reaches out her hand as well, and they shake hands. "What's your name?" she asked, friendly.
"Hyuga Fumiko," she replied.
"Well then, are you excited to start your training today?" Rin asked her.
Fumiko nodded her head. "I would be more excited if I didn't have to deal with a certain someone, though."
"Hey, what did I do?" Obito asked, seemingly offended. He crossed his arms.
Fumiko responded to him. "No, not you. It's my teammate. He's always so rude to me, he's annoying, and he's always complaining about everything I do. He pretty much hates me."
"He can't be that bad though, can he?" Obito asked.
Almost coincidentally, Akemi arrives just as he says this. He scoffs at Fumiko.
"Loser."
"Maybe he is that bad..." Obito admitted.
"Hey, what did you say?!" Akemi asked angrily.
"N-nothing," Obito said, nervously. He started sweating frantically.
"Oh yeah," Akemi stated. "Try me!"
At this point, Obito was getting annoyed. He crossed his arms, frowned, and replied, "Whatever."
"Oh, are you too scared to fight me?" Akemi said.
"No, no way!" Obito responded.
Akemi smirked at him. They charged towards each other and they fought; if what just happened could even be concidered as a fight. The next thing he knew, Akemi was already on the floor. He didn't even get a chance to make his first move before Obito had basically wiped the floor with him. The outcome wasn't unexpected, though. Akemi was a complete novice, going up against someone who had at least a full year of training.
"Ow," he said.
"Hrmph," Obito said as he left to go join with the others.
About 15 minutes later, everyone else had arrived: Taishiro, Kushina sensei, Minato sensei, and a white haired boy.
Kushina spoke to her team. "Today, our team will be doing the tree climbing exercise. It is the first exercise that most genin get to practice, and it is one of the fundamentals for learning ninjutsu. But to do this, you must climb the tree by gathering the perfect amount of chakra in your feet to balance yourself while walking on the tree."
"Look, I'll demonstrate," she said as she joyfully walked onto the tree, using chakra control on her feet to balance herself. She then did a back tuck as she landed herself from the tree. "Minato's team will be doing their own training, but they will be able to assist you guys if you need any help."
"Fumiko," Rin called out. "If you want, I could help you."
"It's okay, I think I got it."
Fumiko had incredible chakra control, as did the rest of her clan. She could not only release chakra from her hands and feet, but she could release chakra from every single tenjutsu in her body; something that even jonin had trouble doing. As she walked up the tree, she maintained perfect balance, even more so than Kushina sensei. She made it to the top of the tree, and as she jumped backwards, she twisted her body elegantly into the air and did a 360 degree rotation. Her moves were precise and elegant as she flipped into the air. She landed feet first onto the ground. Everyone was amazed as she did this, even Akemi. His amazement quickly turned to jealousy.
Taishiro and Akemi decided to give it a shot as well. Their first attempts at this failed, and both of them fell from the tree. Because Fumiko had already mastered this, she was allowed to train with Minato's team while Kushina continued to help Akemi and Taishiro.
The training with Minato would pose much more of a challenge. They would be working on ninjutsu, which Fumiko was quite inexperienced in.
"Fumiko, I'll have you take this," Minato said, handing her a slip of paper. "With this, I'll be able to determine your chakra nature."
As Fumiko held the paper in her hand, it reacted to her chakra, and it slowly began to burn into flames.
"I see... so your chakra nature is fire, just like Obito's. I'll have him help you out with your ninjutsu training, then."
Fumiko then walked up to Obito. "Minato sensei asked if you could help me with my training, if that's okay with you."
"Sure!" Obito said.
He gave her a thumbs up and smiled. "I'll teach you how to do this jutsu," he says while demonstrating. He first did the hand signs, and then breathed out a large blaze of fire that spread across the area. "First," he said, "I'll teach you the hand signs."
He clasped his hands together, with his arms parallel to the ground.
Snake
Then, he held up his left and right index and middle fingers upright, with his right hand slightly lower. His ring/ pinky fingers on his left hand overlapped the ring/ pinky fingers on his right.
Ram
He held his hands together with his left hand under his right. His right pinky finger was positioned between his left thumb and index finger.
Monkey
He then joined his hands together in an upside-down fist-like position.
Boar
After that, he held his hands together with his index fingers forming an arch and the knuckles of his middle, ring, and pinky fingers conjoined (although with some distance lay between). His right fingers, excluding his index fingers, lay above his left fingers.
Horse
Finally, he clasped his hands together with his index fingers raised upright, but slightly arched.
Tiger
Fumiko followed his demonstration. Snake. Ram. Monkey. Boar. Horse. Tiger. Then finally:
Katon: Gōkakyū no jutsu.
Fumiko exhaled a large outburst of fire from her mouth, almost as large as Obito's. After just one demonstration, she had already mastered his jutsu.
Obito seemed amazed at this. "Wha— how?" he asked. "That was amazing!"
"Thank you," Fumiko replied.
While Fumiko and Obito were training along with the rest of Minato's team, Akemi was still struggling with the tree climbing exercise. Taishiro had eventually figured it out due to his sharp intellect, but his poor chakra control posed to be a challenge to him. Akemi was the only one still struggling with the exercise. Poor Akemi, Fumiko thought. She almost felt bad for him.
"Hold on, Obito," Fumiko said as she walked back towards her team.
"Hey, Akemi," she said. "I'm here to help you out with your training."
"No way, I can do it myself!" He paused for a few seconds and then said, "Fine."
Fumiko awakened her byakugan. "To be able to do this exercise, you must exert just the right amount of chakra to be able to climb the tree. With my byakugan, I will be able to tell whether or not you're emitting the right amount of chakra."
Akemi started gathering chakra towards his feet.
"So that's why it wasn't working before," Fumiko said. "You're using way too much chakra."
So Akemi decreased the amount of chakra flowing towards his feet until it was just the right amount.
"Perfect!" She said. "Now, try walking up to the top of that tree over there." She pointed to a large oak tree to the right of Akemi. "I'll hold your hand in case you fall, so don't worry."
So Fumiko held his hand, and they climbed up the tree together. Suddenly, when they were almost at the top of the tree, Akemi lost his balance. He stumbled and his foot slipped. The bark from the tree snapped and broke. He was about to plummet down.
"Help," he said, reaching out his arm.
Just as he was about to fall, Fumiko grabbed his arm and hauled him back on his feet. Once they reached the top of the tree, they walked back down together.
"Now you should try it by yourself," Fumiko said.
"But what if I fall?"
"I promise, you won't."
Akemi tried it by himself, and actually succeeded in getting to the top of the tree, although he was a little wobbly.
As he came back down, he said, "I did it! Did you see that? Wasn't it so awesome?" He jumped around in excitement.
It was actually cute seeing Akemi like this. He had the sweetest smile when he was happy, which Fumiko didn't like to admit.
"Aren't you gonna say something?" Fumiko asked.
"What?"
"I'm the one who helped you with the exercise, so you should thank me."
"Oh— uh..." Akemi was still overconfident sometimes, though, and was even a bit embarrassed having to accept help from someone much younger than him.
"Now, what do you say..." Fumiko narrowed her eyes and glared at him intensely.
"Th— thank you." Akemi seemed to be quite scared of Fumiko, especially whenever she gave him that look.
