Chapter 7

1993

Happy age 42

Bramty age 7

Tacoma had always been his home but every time he returned it felt less and less like the place he remembered liking. It had been 3 years and change since he met Bramty and she was all he could think about. How his baby girl was doing each day? is she okay? is she happy? what did she do at school today? is Katherine looking out for her still?

All questions that he had to wait until she called to get answers to.

At first it had made him feel like a pussy for thinking so much about some little kid but now it doesn't even bother him.

Happy sighed as he pushed a sweetbutt out of his room, no way was he gonna let her think she was staying in here with him tonight. As much as his opinion on Bramty had changed, he wasn't about to start trying to find a wife or some shit. This isn't some insta-family bullshit.

Happy smiled when the phone rang and he answered straight away, "Hey baby girl"

"Hi Hap" she giggled into the phone

He smirked, "How was you day, kiddo? What'd you do?"

"It was so much fun! We moved to this new house and the man next door has a big television in the lounge room! It's on the wall opposite the window and he was watching a football game... his window was open and it's directly across from the one in our lounge room! I was watching the football game when he saw me and he laughed, I thought he was going to close the blinds but he just told me I could come and watch with him if I asked my mom"

Happy rolled his eyes, he didn't know how he felt about her just going over to the random guy next doors house but there wasn't much he could do about it now.

"Who was playing?" he asked

"Dallas cowboys and the Cleveland Browns!"

Happy chuckled, "Do you understand the game?" he knew that if someone explained it to her she'd have no problem with the rules but he wondered if she'd already known the game.

"Yeah, I do. We play football at school on sports day" she giggled "It's my favourite sports days and I really, really like watching the games so much better! and guess what?"

"What?" he asked not being able to help but smile at how excited she was over the game.

"Washington is playing against the Pittsburgh Steelers tomorrow!"

Happy spent the next hour chatting with Bramty until he started hearing her yawn. She talked about sports she'd been watching through the window this past month. How she had now found that she liked baseball as well as Football. Apparently soccer and basketball aren't her things though which Happy found amusing to listen to.

"Go to sleep now baby girl, I'll talk to you tomorrow okay?" he said around a yawn of his own. Hearing her yawn for the past 10 minutes was making him tiered!

"Okay. I love you Hap"

"Love you too baby girl"

He sighed when she hung up, goddamn it he missed his little girl! He was glad she wasn't cooped up in the house bored out of her mind when he wasn't there. Though he didn't really like the fact some neighbour was gonna let her watch the games with him.

Happy was gonna have to ask Donut to run a check on the guy to make sure he was at least a little trustworthy. Apparently this house is one they might stay in for a while cause it's close to the club and Katherine likes it, plus it's safe and clean - both good things.

He couldn't help but laugh a little remembering the fact he'd promised to watch the football game tomorrow afternoon so he could talk about it with her when she called. Happy could safely admit he never had seen himself - a badass biker - sitting down to watch a football game! He just didn't do that shit but he'd make an exception if it's what Bramty wanted him to do.

"Where are you going, brother?"

Happy groaned out loud when Kozik popped his head through the doorway. Tonight is a club party and Happy was planning on skipping out to go watch this damn game at a bar near by.

He didn't need Kozik knowing that though.

"Out" was all he said as he walked past the blonde biker who was one of the few Happy actually called a friend.

Kozik followed though, "Yeah, what's up your ass tonight? you skipping out on the party?"

"Yeah" Happy nodded not giving anything away but he knew what Kozik was like. Fuckers like a dog with a bone. He wasn't sure if he'd be able to get out of here without Kozik following or harassing him until he spilled about where he was going.

"Why?"

"The fuck do you care?" he grunted not bothering to hide his annoyance. He knew Kozik was used to it and wouldn't be deterred by his lack of cooperation to the line of questioning.

Kozik snorted and chuckled still following him out of the clubhouse towards the row of bikes. "What the hell do you gotta do that's better than a club party? we only have these bigger ones once a month, brother, and you love em"

Happy shrugged, the fucker wasn't wrong about that. He was always up for a good party and the tame one's they have each Friday are okay but the real fun is at the bigger parties they have once a month. This was more important though and he would be back in time to duck a few blondes anyway.

"C'mon man, keeping secrets and shit" Kozik shook his head and Happy rolled his eyes as he got on his bike not bothering to comment on the fact Kozik was doing the same ready to follow him to where he was going.

" 'm going out to get a drink" he rasped to his brother who raised his brows, they had plenty of drinks at the clubhouse and they both knew it. Thankfully Kozik didn't say anything and just started up his bike peeling out of the lot right behind him.

When they got to the bar Happy shifted uncomfortably looking around seeing the sports T-shirts people where wearing. Kozik had yet to say anything and only followed as Happy stormed into the place and took a seat at the bar.

The game had already started and Happy sighed turning to the bartender, "Beer" the man nodded unfazed by the lack of politeness and set two beers down, one for him and one for Kozik who was looking around the place confused.

"You wanted to watch the game? a football game?" Kozik asked after a minute of silence.

Happy shrugged in response not bothering with actually answering as he followed what was happening on the screen with his small amount of knowledge for the game. Growing up he'd been more into baseball than football but he remembered having the football sports days at school too.

"Alright, I don't mind some football... haven't watched it in years though. I actually used to play in high school believe it or not" Kozik chuckled and Happy couldn't help but laugh.

He'd never have guess Kozik was a football player in high school though it did make a little sense. He could see Kozik being some asshole jock dude.

Usually it would have been an admission Happy would have made some jokes about but he really wasn't in the situation to do that since it was him who brought them to watch the game. At least his brother didn't know he was watching it cause a 8 year old little girl asked him to, because she wanted to cheer on the team for where he was living.

"What the hell is happening?" he grumbled looking at Kozik for an explanation when the ref started talking about something in violation of the rules. He wasn't following.

Kozik looked at him funny but didn't comment, "He went over the line, brother" then shook his head mumbling something about him not even knowing the rules.

"Beer" Happy sighed rapping his knuckles on the bartop to get the bartenders attention. If he was gonna watch another half hour of this game then he was gonna need another beer or two.

It was a baseball game tonight thank god! Happy had Donut run a check on the next door neighbour, Rhyder James. Guy was as clean as a whistle. Few traffic violations and some possession charges as a teen but the fucker had gone to collage for sports science and is now a coach for the local high school.

Happy had been in Charming for 2 days and he'd spent most of his time with Bramty when he wasn't doing club shit. The guys in Charming didn't question him on his whereabouts like his brothers in Tacoma do.

Tonight he promised Bramty he'd be here to watch the game with her at the next door neighbours house.

Walking in the door of her house he smirked when he spotted Bramty laying down on the floor on her stomach, legs swinging in the air behind her and painting her finger nails with the nail polish shit Ma got her not too long ago.

"Hap!" she jumped and and ran at him as soon as she realised he wat watching her from the doorway. Happy laughed and caught her easily before she could jump at him.

"Missed you baby girl" he kissed her forehead as he settled her on his side. Bramty wrapped her arms around his neck in a hug.

"I missed you too!" Bramty said kissing his cheek with a grin. He didn't comment on the fact he'd slept here last night and had actually ate breakfast with her this morning. He liked that she missed him.

"Well, what's the plan kiddo?" he asked holding back a sigh. Baseball was a game he understood but it didn't mean he really wanted to watch a game of it with some random fucker.

"Oh, we can go over now Hap" she nodded smiling, "I told Rhyder that your team is Washington and that's why it's my favourite. He says Washington stink but I don't think that"

Happy smirked and shook his head, it was shit like that which made him watch games with her even if he wasn't that interested. She always thought about him, she liked the team that were defiantly shit just cause he was living in that city.

"C'mon 'n you can get a beer too" she told him grabbing his hand and he scooped her up again so he was holding her while he walked them over to the next door house.

Bramty rang the door bell and the door opened revealing a tall guy, built like a football player. He held his hand out for Happy to shake, "Hey man, you must be Happy. I'm Rhyder, come on in" the guy stepped out of the way.

Happy nodded walking in and setting Bramty down, he followed her right into the large entertainment room which kinda looked like a small movie theatre. He nodded appreciatively and Rhyder laughed handing him a beer.

"Thanks for letting her hang out here" Happy rasped more than a little awkwardly as he took a seat as well.

Rhyder laughed and nodded, "Dude you got a cool kid. Noticed her before when I had the game on... had the window open and she'd be on the floor colouring in or something, watching the game through the window every now and then. Figured the kid knew a good game when she saw one"

He smirked sipping his beer, "That she does. You ever don't want her round just let her know, she won't get upset or nothing... knows when to leave people alone for a bit"

Rhyder shrugged, "Work with teen boys all day at school - I'm a coach. As sad as it is, kids are the people I spend the most time around. My mates aren't that into the games, least not football or baseball... they're soccer and basketball fans and your girl is not a fan of those sports"

Happy laughed, "Tell me about it" he remembered listening to her grumble about having to play them at school for a good while. Saying she wasn't a fan was an understatement.

Bramty walked back into the room from where she'd disappeared and sat herself right on Happy's lap as the game started.

He was amused to say the last as she yelled and cursed the players out. Every now and then she'd shake her head and grumble about the fact they were gonna loose but overall she seemed to have fun watching the game.

"Katherine made us move houses"

It was the first thing Bramty said when he answered the phone and Happy sighed. He could hear how sad she was about that and there wasn't anything he could do to help her out.

She didn't have a television and he was back in Tacoma now.

"I'm sorry baby girl, if you want I can get Rhyder's number... maybe we can go watch a game with him when I get back to Charming?" he offered at a loss of what else to do. He knew she liked watching the game with the dude who also taught her how to play and throw the ball properly.

Even Happy had to admit it have been fun teaching her how to get past them both to score a touch down. She'd giggled the whole way through and even made up a small victory dance like her favourite player does when he scores.

It was mundane, 9-5 bullshit but it was still fun.

"You think? Would you really do that Hap?" she asked

"Course, kiddo... go to bed okay? love you" he could hear her yawning, she'd called later tonight and she had school tomorrow that she needed to get herself to on time.

"Love you too Hap" she sighed before handing up

Happy grunted as he headed out of his room knocking on Donut's door, the guy answered it and shifted uncomfortably before letting him in. They'd come to an understanding after the first time he needed something searched.

Donut didn't say shit unless it put the club in danger which it didn't.

"Need you to get me that guy's number, the one I had you look into 5 months ago" Happy told him and Donut nodded knowing better than to ask why.

"Sure, I'll have it by morning brother" Donut agreed, "You ever gonna tell the club 'bout your kid?"

"No" was all Happy said before leaving and going back to the bar.

He needed to het laid tonight, maybe that would help him to stop thinking about this. He hated hearing Bramty sad... it didn't do anything but make him feel helpless.

But at least now he had a plan to talk to Rhyder, he shook his head just thinking about it. He was really gonna organise for a 8 year old to hang out with a grown ass man? shit!

"Hey" he grabbed the elbow of one of the blonde sweetbutt's and directed her to his dorm room.
