Olivia woke and turned off her alarm. She grabbed the bag she brought in yesterday in her grocery bag. Some PJs, a pair of jeans, 3 cute t shirts a pair of cute sneakers and a hoodie as well as a plush dolphin and a plush kitten. She had some candy too. And a necklace like her own with the word fearlessness on it. She was unsure weather to get the girl such 'adult' jewellery. But that child had been through more in the past 3 years than most adults would go through in a lifetime. She had jumped out of moving van. She was the epitome of fearlessness. Hopefully the necklace would remind her. She wrapped it all with pink shiny wrapping paper. She also wrote a birthday card. She started making some pancakes and went to wake Noah. "Hey, sweet boy. Wake up darling."

"Five more minutes."

"Not today. I've made pancakes and it's Izzy's birthday. Will you come wake her with me an sing happy birthday?"

"Okay."

Olivia carefully lit the candle she'd placed in a pancake. Go knock on the door Noah." He did "good morning" Olivia said opening the door as soon as they were in the room her and Noah burst into song "Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday dear Izzy. Happy Birthday to you." Izzy had a huge smile on her face. "Blow out the candle Izzy, make a wish!" Ola smiled and Izzy did. "Come on into the living room." Olivia asked and Izzy and Ola followed. Ola gasped when she saw the pile of gifts. Izzy totally ignored the gifts and went to sit at the table with her pancake. "I'll make some more Izzy. Why don't you open your gifts first?" Olivia said.

"Wait?" Izzy said confused. "The presents for me?" She asked, unable to believe it.

"Yes, of course. It's your birthday." Olivia, Noah and Ola all sat on the sofa while Izzy sat in the floor, opening her gifts with eyes shining. "I love this, thank you." She said after opening each gift carefully. Looking up at Olivia with grateful eyes. It broke Ola's heart. Knowing her baby sister had been deprived of birthdays for the past 2 years. That she truly struggled to understand that these gifts were for her. "This T-shirt so pretty" Izzy smiled at a pink T shirt with a sequin unicorn on it. "Sometime Mr M make me wear sparkly dress but I like this more. I never had something so pretty."

"Well you're a pretty girl. Who should get pretty clothes." Olivia said which made Izabela blush. She wasn't used to getting genuine compliments, especially from women. She smiled when she open the next present. A stuffed toy black and white cat. "Kotek. Look Ola it look like Kuba! Kuba Kot"

"You remember Kuba? Gosh you have an amazing memory but yes it does." She smiled at her little sister. "Kuba is our grandmothers cat in Poland." Izabela picked up the card and smiled. "Olivia. You get my name wrong. You spell it in English but I spell it in Polish. My sisters have English name but I have Polish name Iz-a-bel-a." She giggled putting stress on the penultimate syllable which is usual in Polish. But that ment nothing to Olivia. "Her name is spelt IZABELA." Ola clarified. "Since I was born in England my name is spelled the same as yours the Polish way has a W rather than a V. A V doesn't really exist in Poland and a W is pronounced like a V. Anna is spelt the same in both countries. Izzy was born in Poland so our family spelt it the Polish way. Don't worry though it happened all the time back home." Ola smiled at Olivia who felt annoyed at herself. This girl was Polish of course it made sense she would have a Polish name. She felt frustrated at herself. Come on Liv you know better than to assume anything. Even how a victim spells her name. She'd have to change all the documents later, but for now it was time to focus on celebrating Izzy. However her name is spelt. "Izabela, h-a-p-p-y

Happy b-i-r-th-d-a-y birthday" she said phonetically sounding out each letter of the word. It had been 3 years since this girl had gone to school. Obviously struggling. "Good reading Iz." Ola smiled. "Shall I help you with the rest. Have a lovely day love from Olivia, Amanda. Fin. Sonny" Ola smiled pointing at each name on the card. "Who Fin and Sonny?" Izzy asked Olivia "they are some more detective. Fin was with me in the hospital and Sonny was with Amanda. They were at the precinct too. But we thought you might prefer to speak to me and Amanda." Olivia replied.

"I sorry but I like girls more than boys. Boys are mean." Izzy said.

"Hey that's not fair." Noah retorted "girls can be mean too."

"Okay Noah." Olivia said and crouched by Izzy. "Izzy. Some grown up boys. Men. Were very mean to you and did some very wrong, mean things. But that doesn't mean that all men are mean. But it's okay if men make you feel anxious."

"I not know what that word mean." Izzy said.

"Niespokojny" Ola provided the Polish

"Yes. They make me feel niespokojna. Like a bit scared." Izzy confirmed.

"I'm not mean." Noah pouted.

"You seem like a lovely boy." Ola smiled at him.

"How old are you today anyway Izzy?" He asked her. "Eleven" Izzy answered. "Eleven? I thought you were like eight or something."

"Hey Noah." Ola smiled at him. "I'm sure your mom has told you that everyone is different. Right?"

"Sure"

"Well some people are tall and some people are short. You look quite tall." Ola told him.

"I'm the second tallest in my class" Noah told her proudly.

"Izzy is just small. I'm quite small too. I'm a grown up like your mom but she's taller than me."

Izzy had opened all the clothes and the toys and candy. Olivia gave her the necklace. "This is so pretty. What it say?"

"It says fearlessness like the one I wear."

"I not know what that word means again. Sorry."

"It's kind of like nieustraszoność" Ola translated.

"Nie rozumiem" Izzy said still confused.

"Kind of like brave. Odważny" Ola told her.

"Because I think you're a very brave girl. A fearless girl." Olivia smiled and clasped the necklace around Izzy's neck. She turned round and put her skinny arms around Olivia's middle in an embrace. "You the nicest lady I ever meeted." Olivia hugged her back.

"You're one of the bravest, sweetest girls I've ever met!" Olivia said tenderly "now who's for pancakes? We've got to get Noah to school soon." As they ate hungrily, Ola looked at her sister "I'm sorry I've only got you some sweeties Iz. How about when all this is over we go out shopping and I can spoil you rotten"

"Sounds good." Izzy smiled. A moment later Ola's phone rang. "May I leave the table and answer? It's our middle sister Anna." She asked.

"Of course." Olivia nodded at her.

"Hey Anna, how was your exam?" She asked down the phone. She knew that due to the time difference Anna's exam would have finished already. "Anna, Anna. Anna listen. Stop. Anna słuchać." She said firmly. "Anna I need you to breathe for me honey. Okay? Anna oddychść. Good girl breathe in 1..2..3.. hold it now out 2..3..4..5. Good girl.." she listened "yes. That's right..yes she's eleven today...we're eating pancakes to celebrate...I know aeroplanes make you anxious...yes sweetie I can't wait to give you a big hug...let me ask her" she turned to Izzy. "Will you say hi to Anna?"

"Ok" Izzy was handed the phone. "Hi Anna...dziekuję" Izzy thanked her middle sister who had just wished her 'sto lat' 100 years, used as a birthday congratulation in Polish.

Izzy went to get changed. "Oh Iz, you look so smart in your new clothes!" Ola exclaimed. Despite her bruises Izzy looked more like a normal little girl in jeans and a unicorn t shirt. "Ola I remember you used to do my hair. Will you do it?" Izzy asked.

"Of course Birthday girl." Ola gently brushed and French plaited Izabela's hair. Gently to avoid where she'd bumped her head. "You look cute Izabela!" Olivia smiled. "Thanks" Izzy blushed. They all walked Noah to school. Izzy gripped her sisters hand tight. But seemed to enjoy bing out in the sun. "I not been out in the day for a long time. It's nice." Izzy smiled almost skipping down the road. "No?" Olivia asked. "Mr D and mommy not let us go out in the day. They not want the other people who live near to see us" Izzy told her as they walked from Noah's school to the precinct. So Olivia took the opportunity. "Where did you live? Was it an apartment like mine? Or a house?"

"It was like piwnica. I don't know how it is in English?" Izzy said looking up at Ola for translation. "A basement." Ola confirmed.

"A basement. Do you know where it was?" Olivia asked and Izzy bit her lip and stayed silent and they walked into the precinct. "Happy Birthday Izabela!" Amanda smiled at Izzy.

"Thank you."

"Are they new clothes." Amanda asked.

"Yes, birthday presents, Olivia said they from you too. Thank you." Izzy smiled.

"You're very welcome sweetie." Amanda smiled and Izzy hugged her. Amanda stood stock still for a second then put her arms around the girl. She lead Izzy over to her desk. "I got you something." She opened a cake box on her desk with a beautiful cake with butterflies on that said 'happy birthday Isabella.' Izzy gasped "I love motyle...fultterbies?"

"So close." Ola said coming up behind her "butterflies"

"Butterflies" Izzy repeated. "Although they got my name wrong again."

"Sorry, I thought your name was Isabella?" Amanda asked. "It is but she spells it the Polish way IZABELA. It's fine though. Olivia did the same this morning. And back home in England it happened all the time." Ola explained.

"Oh I'm sorry Izzy."

"It will still taste good" Izzy replied. And Amanda smiled at her. "Can we eat later when my family come here, this evening!"

"Sure." Amanda replied.

"So Izzy. You told me you lived in a basement. Do you know where it was?" Olivia asked Izzy in her office. Izzy shook her head. "Anything at all?" Olivia asked again.

"It's going to sound silly" Izzy said. "That's okay. Tell Olivia anyway."Ola told her

"They said to another man one day that we lived in 69th queen. Which make no sense."

"No that's great Izzy. Really helpful. Would you recognise the outside of where you lived. What the house looked like?"

"I think yes. Although I didn't see it much. Only when we comed into and out from the van."

"Do you think if me and Amanda took you to drive outside that area you'd find the right house? Ola could come too?"

"Maybe."

"Okay let's take a road trip!"
