They stayed another week and had one more visit with Dr. Ingrahm. Kid had no adverse reactions to the shellfish or the wheat and, while Dr. Ingrahm suggested they add two more foods and at least one more follow up visit, Kid said he felt comfortable that the cause had been identified and being in a city was was growing very wearisome to him. He did promise to return if the asthma attacks were not curtailed, but he felt some open space and mountains would be much more therapeutic to him for the time being.

Dr. Ingrahm gave Kid the list of foods to avoid due to the possibility of peanuts being included in the food. He also warned Kid to stay away from Chinese food as peanut oil was commonly used in the cooking of such foods.

The night before they planned to leave, Heyes and Kid treated Soapy to dinner at the Gentleman's Club as a way of thanking him for all his hospitality. All three men looked quite dapper in their suits and hats and Kid told Heyes he looked quite aristocratic in his new Bowler hat.

"Where did you learn that word?" Heyes asked.

"Prince and the Pauper," Kid replied.

Heyes smiled. "So you do listen when I read to you."

"Heyes, I listen to everything you say. I don't always agree with everything you say, I don't even always approve of everything you say, but I do listen to everything you say."

"Oh, boys, I am certainly going to miss your company," Soapy said as they ate their dinner. "You know, the offer stands. You are always welcome in my home."

"We do appreciate that Soapy. You're very generous to us."

"You know, Kid. I told you I knew your father when we were lads."

"Yeah."

Soapy looked and Kid a smiled. "You are so very much like him. He'd be very proud of you, of the both of you."

Kid looked and Heyes and smiled. "You know, Heyes... Maybe I really do want that amnesty."

"It would make him proud, Kid."

Kid's tongue rolled against the inside of his cheek and he nodded his head. "I know," he said quietly.

The next morning, after saying their good byes at the house, Heyes and Curry boarded the train for Cheyenne. Kid took the window seat and looked contentedly out the window as the sites of the city slowly moved into the distance and the vast and open expanses of the mountains soon came into view.

Heyes watched his partner and could almost see the rejuvenation take seed and blossem.

"This has been quite the summer," Heyes said.

Kid continued to look out the window but he nodded. "Yeah," he replied.

"It's good to be going home, ain't it?"

Again Kid nodded. Then he turned to Heyes and smiled.

"Thanks for putting up with everything, Heyes."

"You'd do it for me."

Kid shoved his hand in his pocket and slipped his fingers around the padlock.

"Gonna hafta start watching your back again. I might be a little rusty you know."

"Well then, I guess we'll just hafta start hunting for the safe haven, uh?"

Kid pulled the padlock from his pocked and tossed it in the air, catching it in one hand.

"Well, don't worry Heyes, I'll know what to do when we find it."
