Chapter 7: Lost Soul
I laid on my bed staring at the ceiling. Yoruichi laid comfortably on top of me in her cat form.
"Yoruichi?" I asked softly, scratching behind her ear the way she likes it.
"Hm." She purred happily.
"Kuchiki. Did I know anyone named Kuchiki?" I asked remembering earlier today how that name made my head hurt.
Yoruichi was silent for a couple of minutes and she sigh heavily.
"Byakuya Kuchiki." She finally answer somberly.
Her gold eyes stared at me seriously.
"His full name is Byakuya Kuchiki, the man you dream about that's his name."
"Who was he to me?" I urge desperately, wanting to know more about my past.
"He was many things to you." Yoruichi explain cryptically.
I sigh frustrated, that didn't answer my question.
"Yoruichi, why won't you and Kisuke ever talk about my past?" I asked dully staring at her sadly.
"It's best that it comes to you with time. If you forgot it once it means it was too hard for you to bear it the first time." Yoruichi whispered tentatively.
"Would you ever lie to me?" I asked softly.
"Kat, you can trust me with your life. I would never harm you intentionally. Same with Kisuke." Yoruichi swore sternly.
I sighed slowly sitting up and looked at her again.
"Why doesn't Kisuke want me around the shinigami who showed up?"
"She broke some laws that could get her in trouble. Kisuke doesn't want you getting involved in something that doesn't concern you." She explained sternly.
"What about Ichigo?"
"He might have to pay a small price." Yoruichi admitted softly.
"I don't want Ichigo to get hurt." I whispered.
"Then don't let him get hurt." Yoruichi urged slyly.
I smiled at her. She really was like a big sister to me. I was about to say something when my phone beeped.
I pulled out my phone and saw a text from Tatsuki inviting me to dinner at Orihime's house.
"I'm going to go hang out with some friends I'll be back later Yoruichi."
"Be careful."
"I will."
I walked out of my room making my way towards the meeting spot Tatsuki and I agreed to. Tatsuki arrived with a bowl of stew.
"Tatsuki, why didn't you tell me to bring something?" I asked sheepishly.
"It's ok. Dinner is on me tonight. Orihime tends to have dinner alone since her brother passed away." Tatsuki explained sadly as we walk towards Orihime's small apartment.
"That's horrible." I whispered sadly.
I should invite her to dinner sometime too.
We reach Orihime's apartment and she greeted us happily not expecting us.
"Didn't mean to come over unannounced, but we figured you might want some company for dinner?" I said happily pointing to the stew Tatsuki brought.
"My mom said to bring you some and I invited Kat to make an evening out of it." Tatsuki explained.
We walk into her small apartment and got the small table ready for dinner.
While Tatsuki and Orihime talked I looked around her small apartment and saw one single picture of her brother standing on a table nearby.
I wonder if I had a brother or a sister. I know Yoruichi adopted me into her clan. But did she have any brothers or sisters maybe that I also loved? What about parents did I have loving parents before Yoruichi found me?
"Kat what's wrong?" Orihime asked concern.
I smile forcefully hiding my sadness away.
"Nothing, just thinking about finals coming up soon. I haven't really studied." I lied easily. Lying has slowly became an easy thing for me. Secrets and lies seems to be my life now.
"Don't worry none of us have yet. But I'm sure you will do great." Orihime praised happily. "Oh that reminds me, earlier today I saw Ichigo and the new girl walking around town."
My stomach twist angrily. What was this feeling?
"Ichigo and Rukia? Damn, Ichigo sure works fast." Tatsuki joked.
I frown slightly, the anger twist intensify at the thought of Ichigo and Rukia together. What was this feeling? I suddenly froze feeling a sinister spirit force nearby. Hollow. I look at Orihime and Tatsuki who also seem to be feeling something but weren't sure what it was.
Suddenly her house shook and I grunt loudly as something flick me across the room before I could react. I rolled across the living room Tatsuki and Orihime calling my name.
I slammed into the wall and ignoring the pain I scrambled to my knees looking at the huge serpent like hollow in front of me.
I quickly stood up drawing out the symbols to my spell. Hopefully it would be strong enough to hold him down while we escape.
I chanted loudly. ""Disintegrate, you black dog of Rondanini! Look upon yourself with horror and then claw out your own throat! Bakudo #9, Geki!" I shouted.
Bright red energy engulfed the giant hollow, causing him to remain completely still. I did it. I was able to do my first kido spell without a problem.
I ran towards Tatsuki's passed out body picking her up. I slanged her over my shoulder and saw that Orihime was able to walk.
"Orihime! Come on let's go while he can't move!" I yelled at the scared girl.
She looked at me terrified and that's when I saw the chain coming out from her chest. I followed the long chain to her real body and gasp. She was a spirit, the hollow had tried to kill her.
I sighed relieved that her chain was still in tack which means she can return to her body without a problem.
"Orihime return back to your body!" I instructed my scare friend. "I'll keep it busy!"
"Noooo!" The hollow screamed angrily. "She's mine!"
I gently place Tatsuki against the wall and ran towards the hollow as he broke free from my spell; it wasn't strong enough.
I pulled out my pack of gum and pushed the button as my zanpakuto came out. I flash step in front of Orihime blocking the hollow's giant hand from crushing her.
"Kat." She whispered scared.
"Go, quickly back to your body." I hissed holding back his giant hand. It was so strong it was pushing me back.
"What is this?" The hollow ask stun at my sudden appearance and zanpakuto.
"Hands off pal, that's my friend." I growled angrily, finding some strength to push him back. "Hyuzu!" I scream, in the split second before he attack again and I was about to summon my zanpakuto someone else blocked his attack.
I stared at Ichigo's back confused and realized he also felt the hollow and came to stop it.
"You are after me not them!" He yelled attacking the hollow.
"Ichigo…" I whispered disbelief.
Ichigo look at me confuse.
"Kat? Can you see me?" He asked shocked.
I nod.
"Impossible."
"Watch out!" I yelled.
The hollow's tail knocked him out of the house. A huge hole was formed as I quickly active my shikai form.
"Hyuzu! Mangekyo no Hana!" My blade formed into my bracelet around my wrist. "Kage!" I ran towards Orihime and her body.
I formed a bright purple barrier around us blocking the hollow's giant tail. I grunt concentrating more of my spirit force into the barrier, keeping it from cracking.
"Kat!" Orihime yelled concern.
"I'm fine! Just go back into your body!" I yell, panting heavily.
"NOOO!" The hollow scream slamming both of his hands down onto my barrier.
The barrier cracked and with his tail he suddenly smack me across the room. I flew through the hole and stumble to get my stepping back midair.
"Kat!" I heard Ichigo yell my name.
I finally got my footing back standing midair.
"I'm fine! Focus on the hollow and Orihime!" I yell back out of breathe.
I held my bruised side whipping some blood from my mouth as I stared at the giant hollow. He slowly went back into the house with Orihime.
I jump down beside Ichigo and notice the cut on his forehead was bleeding.
"You are hurt." I said seriously.
"Forget it. I'm fine." He mutter annoyed.
"Catalina, how, how can you see him!" Rukia exclaimed in a different deeper shocked voice. Nothing like the sickly nice voice from earlier today.
"No time right now, we have to save Orihime." I said quickly jumping back into the room
I heard the hollow telling Orihime that he was her brother. I gasp kneeling beside the hole. Orihime's brother's soul had been corrupted and turned into a hollow.
"Don't listen to it Orihime!" I yelled jumping into the room. "It's not your brother anymore!"
"You shut up!" he screamed.
He fling his tail at me and I quickly blocked it with a metal sword, "Kinzuko!"
I flipped my blade cutting his tail and he screamed coiling back further into the house. I ran towards Orihime as Ichigo jumped in attacking the hollow's back.
"Come on you have to go back into your body!" I yell tugging onto her hand as Ichigo fought the hollow.
I quickly help her into her body as Rukia showed up. Orihime quickly slipped into her body and I ran to the edge of hole with Orihime and Rukia behind me.
"Finish him!" Rukia yell sternly.
I watch somberly and then glance at Orihime concern.
The hollow suddenly sprayed Ichigo with some type of acid making him drop his zanpakuto. I flash step towards him with Kinzuko still active.
I got there just in time blocking the hollow's giant mouth with my blade.
"You are supposed to be Orihime's brother right? Then why would you make her sadder than she already is?!" I yell angrily. "You really want her last memories of you to be this, a monster?!"
"Brother…" Orihime said sadly standing beside us.
Her tearfully gray eyes stared at her hollowfy brother. The hollow slowly back away and Orihime hugged him tightly.
"It my fault you're this way. I begged you not to leave me alone. That's why you weren't able to fine peace." Orihime sobbed sadly.
"Orihime…" the hollow whimpered sadly.
"Since you died I always had the sense that you were watching over me." She explain softly, "Yesterday, when that car was about to hit me, you protected me didn't you?" She ask gently cupping his hollow mask sadly. "Then one day I realized that if I kept depending on you to stay by my side you would never find peace." She sobbed.
I slowly lower my sword watching them sadly.
"But if I showed you that my life was really happy and that you didn't need to worry about me anymore you could rest in peace." She whispered panting. "I never thought it would make you sad and lonely! I would never want to do that to you brother!" She sob finally falling to her knees.
That's when I realized Orihime was wounded. I quickly ran to her side pulling her onto my lap checking her wounds.
"Orihime!" The hollow yelled.
His mask fading back and forth. I stared at the hollow disbelief. Orihime's love for her brother was helping him fight against whatever hollow corrupted him.
"Rukia, what the hell is going on?" Ichigo ask stun.
"The part of him that is still human is fighting for control." She explained somberly. I listen to her explain how stronger hollows can take over spirits and control them. "Whoever is controlling these hollow was initially after you." She concluded seriously.
I watched how the hollow's mask shattered into pieces and Orihime's brother came into view. I smile softly that he was able to regain control.
I looked at Orihime who had finally passed out. I gently placed her on the ground my hand glowing a light green as I healed her wound. This particular wound wasn't too hard to heal with my kido.
"You know how to use Kido too?" Rukia ask sternly.
"I used to belong to that world but I can't remember anything about it expect for my abilities." I semi lied. I didn't want to bring Yoruichi and Kisuke into this.
"Orihime." Her brother whisper sadly.
"She's alright, my kido will heal her up just fine." I explained gently.
Orihime's brother sigh relieved. He turned around picking up Ichigo's zanpakuto.
"What are you doing?" He ask concern.
"I only have a little bit more time before the hollow overwhelms me again and changes me back into a monster." Orihime's brother said somberly. "So while I'm sane and can still think clearly, I'll end this." He declare determinedly.
"No, wait, don't do that!" Ichigo yelled shock.
"Ichigo, he's made the right decision." Rukia said seriously, "Once you become a hollow you can't go back to what you were again." She explain softly. "Passing on is the best thing." She continue explaining the purpose of a shinigami.
I turn to Orihime as she was starting to come to.
"Wait, I have to tell you something." Orihime whisper roughly. I gently helped her sit up right. "These hair pins," she whisper touching the blue flower hair pins, "Remember the argument we had the day you give them to me?" she ask softly holding her hands to her chest sadly. "I said I didn't like it because it didn't look grown up enough for me. I knew I had hurt your feelings. And you left without saying anything else. And that was the last time I saw you alive." She whimper sadly as she seem to remember losing her brother. "So now I want to say what I should have said to you when you went off to work that day. Brother have a good day."
"Thanks Orihime." He whisper softly and stab himself.
I watch how his body slowly disintegrated into thin air. Orihime sobbed loudly burying her face into my chest and I hugged her tightly. I rubbed her back trying to calm her down.
It had been a couple of minutes since her brother disappeared and she had calm down enough to talk again. Rukia walk towards Orihime and me and suddenly pulled a lighter looking thing and poof.
Orihime passed out and I blink confuse and then laughed.
"That won't work on me." I said giggling. "My faux body is special, it was specially made to resist certain things." I explained.
"Are you a shinigami," Rukia ask slowly.
"I don't know. I appeared here in the human world with no memory of who I use to be." I explain plainly. "You said your name was Kuchiki correct? Every time I hear your last name I get a painful head ache like if I know you. Do I look familiar to you?"
"You do, and your last name sounds familiar as well but I can't place where I have seen you before." She explained thoughtfully trying to remember where she knew me from.
"Will I have to go my foster father will get concern if I'm out any longer. I'll see you guys at school." I wave flashing stepping back to Kisuke's shop.
Rukia Kuchiki…just who are you? How will you changed mine and Ichigo's life?

So Kat was able to use some of her abilities in this chapter. Now I know in the first fnafiction I restrained from making too many changes, but in this fanfiction I'm planning on changing certain things and involving Kat and Eita more with Ichigo and Rukia. Since Rukia and Eita need to grow their bond.
I'll be updating once more this week and then I'll be taking two weeks off for the holidays. I have lots to do and won't have too much time to update. I'll be updating in January again.
