Chapter 9

Nora slowly walked around the boulevard of Sanctuary lost in her thoughts, grief weighed heavily on her heart. In just three months she had already Burried her husband and now her trusted companion in this dark rotten hellish new world. She stopped by the tree and looked to the night sky "What more do intend to take from me you bastard?" Fresh tears began to fall from her eyes as she stared up at the heavens silently cursing whatever god may be listening at the time. "Blue, we're about to turn on the generator for the street lamps, is there anything I can get for you while im here?" Piper asked lightly, clearly trying to comfort her in her time of need.

"No thank you Piper, I just need to be alone for a while." Nora said softly. "Ok Blue, ill be over at Prestons if you need anything." Piper said as she began walking to wards the house Preston had claimed for himself. "Actually there is something you could do for me" Nora said. "Anything you need Blue just say it." Piper said as she walked closer to her friend, "Just hold me for a while." Nora replied. Piper blushed a bit at the thought but obeyed her friends request without hesitation, and as Nora wrapped her arms around Pipers waist she began to cry again. "If i had only waited another second to fire at that son of a bitch he would be here by my side still." "Blue you cant blame yourself for this, you reacted out of instinct just as Dogmeat did. He didnt want you to get hurt so he attacked that bastard just as he always did when enemies were near." "I miss my friend Piper and i just want him back. I know its not really my fault but it was my bullet that killed him." "Hush now Blue you've still got me, and i promise you im not going anywhere for a good long time yet."

"If i didnt know any better id say you were flirting with me Piper" Nora said softly as she looked into her friends eyes. "Um well i mean uh did it just get hot?" Piper said in a fluster at being caught flirting with her friend. "You are flirting with me arent you?" Nora giggled as she watched her friend squirm trying to find the right words to say. "The hell with it" Piper said and leaned in kissing Nora full on the lips, and sighed as her kiss was returned in earnest. Nora, taken by suprise leaned into the kiss she had been thinking about for a few weeks now, wondering if Piper felt the same way or if she was being unfaithful to Nate, but all those thoughts melted away in this one perfect moment under the stars as the lights of the street lamps began to flicker on one by one. Nora broke the kiss, 'Come with me Piper lets go somewhere a little more private." "yes ma'am" Piper responded with a giggle as she took Noras hand and allowed herself to be lead toward Noras old house.

A few hours later Piper lay beside Nora in the bed they now shared, her mind racing and her heart contently thumping as Nora slept beside her cuddled close for extra warmth. As she lay there thinking she felt Nora move a bit and felt as she placed a soft kiss on her cheek. "Hey Blue, um that was something i never expected, but wow is all i can say." "Id beeen wondering if you felt the same as i did these last few weeks, Piper and now i know you do." Nora said smiling as she wrapped her arms around Piper and pulled her down into the covers again.

Sunlight poked into Noras eye and she tried to keep it away to no avail, "Fine mr sun i guess you win im up" she said somewhat groggily as she rolled towards the edge of the bed and began fumbling for her clothes. "Blue are you up yet?" Piper called from down the hallway, "Your coffee will get cold if you dont hurry up." Nora began to dress a bit faster sniffing her top and deciding it was fine for another day, dressed now she grabbed her PIPBOY and walked down the hall towards the smell of fried Cram and coffee. "Morning Blue, how did you sleep?" Piper said as she slid close to Nora with a cup of Coffee in her hand and kissed her full on the lips again. "Mmph" Nora said as she kissed piper back and took the coffee she held out to her. "Better than i have in months, and for the first time no horrifying dreams." "Well looks like you just needed a solid nights sleep and a little frisky fun to help out," Piper said as she winked at Nora.

Nora smiled and kissed Piper again then sat down to begin eating Breakfast and enjoy her coffee when Preston knocked on the door. "I'll get it Blue you just relax and eat." Piper said as she moved towards the door. "Hey Preston to what do i owe the pleasure?" Piper asked lightly, "I was wondering if I could speak with Nora for a few minutes actually Piper" Preston replied with a slightly guilty look on his face. "Oh no you don't Preston not right now. Especially after the events of yesterday." Piper snapped hotly "It's fine Piper, really it is." Nora said as she walked over to the door to stand beside her.

"I know you are going through a very tough time General, but i did just get word from a passing trader of a potentially good spot for a new settlement, The folks over at Ten Pines Bluff spotted it on one of their scavenging runs but said it was over run by Mutants." "Super Mutants?! Really!? what the hell is wrong with you Preston?" Piper demanded crossly "Do you have any idea what you are asking Nora to face right now? The last time she tangled with just 5 of them she was in a hospital for three days and now you want her to take on a larger group of them?" "Piper, it's ok, really besides you'll be with me so it wont be as bad so long as we can stay out of sight and pick them off with rifles." Preston stood in the doorway simultaneously confused by the interaction between Nora and Piper and scared of the tounge lashing he had just recieved from Piper. "Blue, you know im not afraid of those big lumbering brutes and I know you're eager to even the score against them, but I just dont think now is a good time after.." "After what? After one of their mutated mutts got my leg? OR do you mean after some Maniac with a knife tried to kill me?" Nora said a little hotly "I'm well aware of why you want me to take it easy right now nut the last thing i need to be doing is sitting here doing nothing." At this Nora stormed off towards her Bedroom and slammed the newly repaired door so hard that a pane of glass fell out of the living room window. "I'll just come back later..." Preston stammered as he swiftly began to move away from a now irate looking Piper.
