This one-shot will be three parts. It's a bit long x)
The Furies flew across the open sea. The Night Lights have improved in their flying since last year. They made it to New Berk in half the time. They landed on the cold snow. Luna shivered.
"I forgot what this 'snow' felt like."
"It has been awhile." Toothless said. They walked toward the light coming from the village. They sat on their ledge where they sat last year and looked down to see a young Hiccup and young Astrid.
"They got...smaller?" Luna cocked her head in confusion. The Night Lights looked around for their two human companions as well.
"I don't think that's them." Toothless looked a bit harder at them. Astrid doesn't have auburn hair and Hiccup doesn't have blonde hair, "Those are their hatchlings!"
"Are they putting on another show?" Dart asked.
"Looks like it. I just hope it doesn't catch fire this time." Luna said.
"Probably not." Toothless told them. He looked at the stage. No weird metal suits in sight. Toothless let out a sigh of relief.
"Look, they're starting!" Dart cheered. The dragon family quieted down to watch. They saw Zephyr, who stood behind stage as her father gave the opening. She couldn't stop smiling. They were actually doing this! She turned to Nuffink, who was still mumbling his lines, and she nudged him. He looked up at her.
"You ready for this?" she whispered.
Nuffink started to fiddle with his fingers, "Um...yeah. I think so."
"It's ok to be nervous." Zephyr said, "You'll do great. We don't walk out until later anyway. You still have time to practice."
Nuffink nodded, then went back to rehearsing his lines. Zephyr peeked out from the curtain. Everyone was enjoying the show so far. Gobber didn't write the script this time, her father did...and she was very glad for that. The applause from outside told her that they were about to switch scenes. Astrid came up from behind.
"Ok, you two are up after this." Astrid reminded them. Zephyr and Nuffink nodded. Astrid smiled and gave them hugs and walked out onto the stage.
Snotlout was playing his dad, Fishlegs was Gobber, her parents were playing as Stoick and Valka, and she and her brother were Hiccup and Astrid when they were younger. Some other kids were playing the other Riders. Zephyr was so excited when Astrid told her she and Nuffink were going to be in the pageant this year. The villagers wanted another pageant after last performance? The stage caught fire. But things turned out well in the end.
Zephyr watched. She really wanted to get out there. Tine was moving too slow. Nuffink sighed then looked out the curtain.
"That's a lot of people." he said.
"Sure is." Zephyr replied.
"You're not nervous, are you?" Nuffink asked her.
"No. Not really. I'm excited."
"But why aren't you? There's a big crowd of people...your lines.."
"Because," Zephyr said, "we're doing it with our friends and family. That's why. It's going to be a fun experience for everyone Nuff. It's ok to be nervous but we're all here with you."
Nuffink sniffed then hugged Zephyr, "I'm not going to be nervous anymore."
"That's good." Zephyr hugged him back, "We're on soon. Get ready."
Nuffink nodded. Zephyr heard more cheering be and knew it was time to step out.
...
This pageant was way different from the last one. Toothless watched as Zephyr began to talk.
"So what are we doing for Snoggletog this year?" Astrid-Zephyr asked Hiccup-Nuffink. Hiccup-Nuffink explained what was going to happen. Ruffrunner eyed Pouncer, a sneaky grin crept up onto his face. He backed away from the spot he was sitting in and crept up behind him as slow as he could. The sound of crunching snow was non-existent, which is why Pouncer screeched when Ruffrunner frightened him. Pouncer growled as the black and white Night Light laughed at him.
"Got you again." he said in between laughs. Pouncer lunged full force on top of his brother and began to tackle him. Luna laid her tail between them, a look of disapproval on her face.
"Quiet!" she told the two. They immediately quieted. A small cry was heard.
"Are you crying?" Ruffrunner smirked at Pouncer. Pouncer whacked his head with his tail.
"It's coming from over there you ding-dongs." Dart pointed at the log behind them. The furies turned around when another cry was heard.
"It sounds hurt." Luna said.
"Let's go check it out." Toothless said. The family peeked behind the log to find a small family of wolves. The mother was licking her child's wound.
"Awww...the poor thing." Luna whispered.
"Can we sleep on them?" Ruffrunner asked.
"No!" Pouncer and Dart snapped at him. Ruffrunner just sighed tiredly.
"We should help them." Toothless said.
The mother wolf looked up at the five dragons and growled. The children ran under their mother protectively. The injured wolf cub limped a ways but then tumbled into the snow, letting out a cry of pain.
"We're not going to hurt you." Toothless told her, Dragons don't know the wolf language, but the mother seemed to under stand, She let down her guard a little, but growled when one of the dragons got to close to her injured child.
"Its leg is cut., and it's not going to get better out here in the cold." Luna licked up a few sticks and shot a small stream of fire. The stick lit up and warmth spread through who was standing near it. The mother wolf hesitated before allowing her cubs to stand near it and warm up. The Night Lights sat near the fire too. Ruffrunner fell asleep as usual.
"I'm going to go down to the village and see if I can find anything." Toothless told Luna. Luna nodded and Toothless walked down the hill toward the Haddock house. Their usual bowl of fish sat on the fireplace. Toothless gulped two and stuffed the rest in his mouth for the family to share.
Toothless stayed a bit longer. The house hadn't changed at all since they were hear last time. The faint smell of Hiccup and Astrid lingered around the house along with their hatchling scents. Toothess smiled. He missed this place. The cozy feeling was wonderful. He then leapt of of their porch and flew up back to their little cliffside. Dropping the fish on the ground. The mother wolf seemed to have gone hunting because the cubs were eating a chunk of meat.
"Dinner time!" Pouncer leapt into the fish pile and started eating. Dart followed along with Ruffrunner. Luna picked up a fish and ate as well. They turned to see the mother and her cubs gone already.
"She must of picked him up." Luna said, "I hope they do ok."
"They were so cute." Dart smiled, then turned back to the show.
A howl was heard in the distance. The small silhouette of a wolf stood on the higher cliff behind them. The mother wolf looked down at them and bowed for their hospitality, then picked her cub back up and ran into the night, her other babies following behind.
"What a lovely family." Luna said softly.
"They can't beat us though!" Pouncer added. The Furies laughed. Then a loud crash was heard. They turned to see the set on the stage. on the ground and a hole in the ground of the stage? Toothless saw Hiccup inside and Astrid was trying to pull him out.
What happened?
