Two days later...

Steve arrived at headquarters in the morning and waited for Danny to arrive. As soon as Danny arrived, Steve called him to the office.

"Should we stay here to break up the fight, or should we go for coffee while they argue?" Quinn said to the team.

"I take the second option," Lou replied and they left to let Steve and Danny talk to each other.

"What do you want, Steve? If it's to talk about Jess you can stop here. I am very happy with her."

"Danny ...," Steve started to speak hesitantly, but Danny interrupted him.

"Do you know what I think? I think you're jealous of me for being with Jess. You wanted to be with her, but you couldn't because you can't get rid of Catherine."

Steve took a deep breath because he didn't believe what he was hearing. He thought well before uttering words, lest he say words that he would later regret.

"Danny, I don't want Jess, and I love Catherine. But I didn't call you here to talk about Jess or Catherine. I called you here to talk about us."

"About us? What's there to talk about us?" Danny asked.

"We've been friends for over ten years, Danny. I haven't had many friends in my entire life, but there are some who have been much more important in my life and in that category I include Joe, Feeddie and you."

"You are not being my friend now, Steve."

"Why do I disagree with you? Friendship is not always thinking the same way, Danny. A true friend is like a brother who does not live in the same house, and despite the circumstances, even when apart, if one needs support, comfort or one simple shoulder to cry on, the other will not hesitate to show your friendship. We are friends, Danny. What are you doing with our friendship? I love you, brother and I just wanted you to know that. "

"I love you too, Steve, but I don't want you to meddle in my love relationship, just as I don't meddle in yours."

"You know, Danny, it's easy to be a colleague, keep someone company, tell him what he wants to hear. It's difficult to be a friend for all hours and always tell the truth. I know you think I'm an idiot for being with Catherine again. but there is a big difference between Catherine and Jess. Catherine is not going to destroy my life, Danny. Jess is going to destroy yours, friend." Steve put his hand on Danny's shoulder as a gesture of friendship and left the office. He went to the Palace parking lot and called Catherine.

"Cath, there's no way. He's blind. Do what you have to do."

"Okay, Steve. I'll do it. Bye."

Catherine put the phone in her purse and was walking down the sidewalk on Main Avenue. She was thrust abruptly out into the street and she could see Jess smiling before being hit by a car.

Steve went back to the office and started working on the paperwork for the previous day's case. Half an hour later he received a call from the hospital and left the headquarters in despair.

"Steve, what happened?" Junior asked when Steve ran past him.

"It's Catherine. She was hit by a car," Steve said before entering the elevator.

"I'll go with you," Junior held the elevator door so it wouldn't close.

"Thanks, buddy," Steve replied. "Can't I have a minute of peace in my life? Everything was going so well between us," Steve was thinking about Catherine.

Steve arrived at the hospital and cannot see Catherine because she was being operated on. A nurse handed to Steve the Catherine's bag, and he sat in the waiting room with Junior.

"She'll be fine, Steve," Junior tried to comfort him.

"I don't know how it happened, Junior. Catherine would not be crossing the street without looking both ways."

Steve opened her purse and found something unexpected. He looked at that small object and couldn't contain his tears.

"What is it, Steve?" Junior wanted to know.

Steve showed Junior a positive pregnancy test.

"At the end of the day, Danny came home and Jess was waiting for him for a special dinner she had prepared. Danny smiled when he saw the table set." Why is all this? "He asked Jess.

"I am very, very happy!" Jess replied.

Catherine's surgery took hours and when it was over, the doctor went to talk to Steve. "She'll be fine. We almost lost her, but she'll be fine."

"What about the baby, doctor?" Steve asked.

"She had a hemorrhage, we couldn't save the baby. If we insisted, we would lose both."

Steve let the tears flow. He was very sad. "Thank you for saving her life, doctor."

"It's my job," the doctor replied. "By the way, she repeated "Jess's fault" several times and "send the email." Does that mean anything to you?"

"Jess's fault?" Steve was stunned and sat on the chair with his hands on his face. He went pale and the doctor was worried about him. "Mr. McGarrett?"

"I'm fine, as far as possible, doctor," Steve replied. Even so, the doctor checked his blood pressure and prescribed a tranquilizer. "

After Catherine left the surgery, Steve can see her for a brief moment. He kissed her forehead, and promised that he would be beside her when she woke up.

She was taken to the intensive care unit and Steve returned to the waiting room. He took Catherine's phone and opened her email.

"I'm sorry for Danny, but Jess is going to pay dearly for everything she did." Steve sent the email and spent the night sitting in the waiting room while Danny was having fun with Jess.

Two days later, Danny woke up with the police knocking on his door and Jess was handcuffed and taken to the police station despite Danny's protests.
