Most of the crew had assembled in the Mess Hall for Talent Night. Harry had done a song on his saxophone. Ensign M'Gann had played the Vulcan Lute. Ensign Jason West, an engineer, had done a stand-up comedy routine. The Doctor had performed an Opera. Ensign Emma Collins, one of the Relief Pilots, had done a ballet performance.
It was Patsy's turn next. She hadn't told Harry what she was going to do and he was curious. He watched as she walked to the performance area, a wooden stand in her hand. It the height of a chair, with a platform around one foot squared on top. She was wearing a gold leotard with a bronze, swirly pattern on it. She positioned the stand then presented to the crowd like he had seen her do to him in training. She had told him it was what she had done at competitions to the judges. She placed her hands on the stand and, with pointed toes, lifted her legs into a straddle before lifting her hips, then her legs, so she was in a handstand. Her left foot slid down to her knee then back up her leg to join her other foot again. She moved her legs so they were in splits then bent the front one so she was in a stag handstand before bringing her legs back into the handstand position. Bending at the hips, she then lowered her feet to the ground. Placing her right leg on the post, she pushed off with the left leg, straightened the right so she was stood on the post. As she straightened her right leg, she kicked the left in front of her and grabbed the foot with her hand so she was in a heel stretch. Still holding the heel stretch, she switched her hands so her left foot was in her right hand, then slid her left arm in front of her leg into a bow and arrow. She went back into the heel stretch then released her foot and swung it behind her, grabbing it with both hands and pulling into in a scorpion before pulling the left leg straight so she was in a needle. She released the needle, brought her feet together on the post, then tuck-back somersaulted off the post. She presented to the crowd again as they clapped. Harry approached her as she made her way to the back of the room where she had left her things.
"That was brilliant" he told her, kissing her. The Captain then took to the stage and began reciting a poem by Geoffrey Chaucer.
"Thank you" Patsy smiled back. She put her grey yoga pants, socks and trainers on, then joined Harry to watch the rest of the performances, including Seven singing, a Karate demonstration from Ensign Doyle, who worked in Security, and Nurse Morgan playing the violin.
