Warning this chapter contains mentions of underage sex. For obvious reasons it will not described in detail only mentioned. No I do not condone it but it's just how I wrote the story. Sorry
Siren had been in Los Angeles, CA for five days and while her body was tired she was running on autopilot. Studio after studio, set after set, meeting after meeting, this wasn't a vacation, this was work. Siren was busting her ass trying to get as much done as she possibly could. Her schedule was packed full of music video shoots, collaborations and studio time and she did not plan on slowing down.
She also had another reason for keeping herself busy, but she pushed the thought out of her head as she opened the door to yet another studio. A smile spread across her face as she spotted an old friend sitting in front of the sound mixer and computer screens.
"Reggie," "Siren, long time no see," "Tell me about it. I was kinda surprised you called," "Well once I heard that you where back in the game I couldn't not put you on a track for the new album," "Let me hear it."
He pressed a button and the beat he created started to play. Siren sat down her oversized shoulder bag and pulled out her notebook and a pen. As she sat in the empty seat next to Reggie it didn't take long for Siren to start bobbing her head to the music. Turning to an empty page in the notebook she clicked the pen and began writing what was coming to her mind.
As the song came to an end Reggie pressed a button to stop the music before it faded out. "Already got an idea?" "I think so, but I might need some vocal help," "You talkin' a collab'?" "Yeah…" she trailed off as she stood up "Mind if I see what it sounds like so far?" "Go ahead."
She slipped off the denim jacket she was wearing to reveal her sleeveless bright red turtle neck that she wore tucked into a park of light wash high waisted jeans that disappeared behind knee high black leather boots.
As she stepped into the booth she sat her notebook on the music stand and put on the large headphones. Reggies' voice came through the speakers "Let me know when you're ready."
"Ready." The beat started up again and Siren looked down at her notes one last time before she started.
She stepped out of the booth feeling ok about the song so far. "I think once you find someone for me to play off of we'll be able to finish it," "That was great so far," Siren dropped back down into the chair next to Reggie "No need to stroke my ego, besides I've missed working with you," "Am I the only one you've missed?"
The question was a little shocking since Reggie was always the type to stay out of all the gossip. "If you're talking about the rest of the group, of course I missed them. I missed everyone-"
"Have you called any of them?"
'Damnit Reggie-' "No but I figured everyone was busy-" "There you go again thinking you know everything. What if they really wanted to see you?"
'Now I feel like an asshole' "I know for a fact Sabine doesn't want to see me," "She doesn't count." Siren couldn't help but to laugh at the statement, 'Sabine never did like me to begin with.'
"We all got together a few months ago, we started talking about getting the group back together to make that fourth album but…" he stopped what he was doing to turn and look at Siren full on, "We need you."
"You wrote all the songs, and didn't you say that you already had the fourth album written? None of us feel right trying to do this without you…even Sabine agreed." Siren was shocked but didn't let the expression on her face change. The group she used to be in was one of the few things she was willing to think about. She wanted to make amends with everyone she just wasn't sure how.
The group was called Nowhere Kids and it consisted of Siren, Reggie, AJ, Sabine and Derick. They where popular and held the top spots on the charts for four years.
Reggie was a very calm non-confrontational kinda guy. He always kept his hair short and under a hat, normally paired with a matching polo shirt and a pair of jeans. Him and Siren got along immediately. They both understood each other musically, and they both knew how to work the sound boards and mixers. Most kids in the industry where never allowed to touch the equipment, those two where the exception.
AJ looked like the bad boy of the group with his dyed green hair, fake piercings and ripped clothing but his voice was pretty damn good. He also wrote his own songs, but Siren found them unimpressive at first, eventually he convinced her to help him out. Writing in silence together actually became a peaceful pastime for them.
Derick was the complete opposite of AJ. He was always wearing the latest fashions and was already a model on the cover of many magazines. Women threw themselves at him but he played the angelic good boy to a T. He also instantly fell in love with Siren from the moment he first saw her and it was hella obvious to everyone around them. He actually taught Siren how to play the guitar as a way to be closer to her.
Sabine…well Sabine wanted to be the lead singer, the one who stood out from the rest of them. They where supposed to be a group so that meant equal treatment and no lead. She was your typical black barbie type. Hair and nails always done, but never the same color when you saw her. Yes Siren wrote all the lyrics but the rest of the work was pretty much divided equally. Sabine wasn't the best writer, and she couldn't play any instruments, but she could dance her ass off. If Siren and Sabine could ever get along they could've made a great duo.
"I'm willing to meet with everyone before I go back to Japan and talk," A smile spread across his face "That's all I ask." She smiled at him about to say something when the door burst open.
"Yo Reggie! Ready to finish this album?" They both turned to the dark skinned man with dreads who entered the room. "Oh shit, is it time for our session already?" Reggie looked at the time on the computer screen "Tell me you didn't forget about me?" He asked sarcastically.
"Of course not, just lost track of time. Do you know Siren?" "Do I know Siren?! You mean the legendary hitmaker, that's you?" they shook hands. "The one and only."
"Siren, this is Daemon. Daemon, Siren." Siren nodded as she sat back in her seat about to grab her things but his next question stopped her movements.
"Man what happened to you?" "Yo-" Reggie interrupted him but he kept going. "I mean the drama with the group I could understand but you just stopped making music all together for a few years, and now you're back?" "Bro! Chill, there's nothing to talk about. Hey Siren-" "It's ok Reggie, I have another appointment to get to. I'll text you about the meetup and you can let me know about the song." Putting on her jacket she quickly grabbed her bag and made her way out the door.
Later that night Siren couldn't help her wondering mind as she sat on the bed in her hotel room. She hadn't thought about the group in years, even though they had always been close Reggie was the only one she still talked to and that was only within the last year because she started making music again.
Siren never wanted to quit making music, she just needed a break from everything…and everyone, especially after the death of Sean.
Sean was her dance instructor, back then he was well known in the industry for being the best choreographer. He worked with superstars and was who everyone wanted to work with.
It may come as a shock to some but Siren knew nothing about dancing until she met Sean. She had been born with her quirk so singing always came naturally to her but moving her body to the music was foreign to her as weird as that seems to say now.
Sean taught her about so much more than just dancing, he was a lot like a big brother to her, even took her in off the streets when she was eight. And yet because she was young and stupid she internalized those feelings as love and in turn tried to seduce him when she turned sixteen.
Even though Siren was born with her quirk, as a child she had very little control over it even when she was singing. It was strange because she was a natural with her manipulation of images but it was like she couldn't completely shut her quirk off.
Her quirk made Sean weak to her will and in the end all it took was one time to completely ruin him. It was her fault that he was literally driven to madness over her. Siren could never forgive herself for his death, because she caused it.
'I wish I had known then what I know now,' she thought solemnly as she stood from the bed and stepped out onto the balcony attached to her hotel suite.
Sean heard her sing many times and told her she needed to do something with her talent but when she turned twelve he found her collection of notebooks filled with original songs and convinced her to get a job at a record label in the city.
They decided to test her out as ghost writer to see if she actually had any talent. The first song she let them use was a simple dance song that they gave to a new artist who hadn't even released their first single yet. They immediately blew up off of the one song.
Siren became the official go to writer after releasing ten hit songs in her first month. And it didn't stop there, everything she worked on went either gold or platinum. Everyone started calling her 'The Hitmaker' by the end of her first year.
At first Siren was fine, writing songs for other people worked for her. But after watching for two years as other people sang her songs and crowds of people cheered…hearing her songs on the radio…Siren wanted a chance to do it herself.
The label decided it would be best to put her in a group, since groups/bands where popular at the time. No one expected them to become the success that they did, nor did they expect all the number one songs that Siren continued to write and co-produce for other artists.
Unfortunately drama always befalls a musical group as both Derick and AJ started fighting publicly over Siren. Mind you Siren wasn't dating either of them nor was she ever interested in them romantically. However she did sleep with both of them, and that was all it took for the seeds of anger, hate and jealousy to all be planted causing a major rift in the group after their third album leaving them unable to even start the fourth already planned album.
Siren was pulled from her thoughts by the sound of her phone ringing back in the room on the bed. She didn't recognize the number as she pressed the answer key "Hello?" "So you think you can avoid me in my city? I'm disappointed in you Siren." She knew who it was immediately from the tone of voice and tried to play it off with a bad joke.
"I'm sorry new phone who dis?" "Haha, but seriously how come I have to see your ass on TMZ to know that you're back in town?" "Uh-oh. Tell me it was at least a decent picture," "Don't keep dodging my question," his tone was serious.
"I'm only in town for two weeks. I promise I was going to call, actually I saw Reggie-" "Of course. Fuckin' Reg-" "Stop it AJ. He told me everyone met up and wants to do another album is that true?"
"Eh, we got together and the subject came up but Derick said we needed you because it wouldn't be the same. Plus the fans wouldn't be happy if you were missing without a good explanation, especially since you started making music again."
"Isn't everyone too busy with their own things to get the group going again?" "We didn't get into those kinda details," "I'm surprised that you and Derick where able to be in a room together," "We aren't kids anymore Siren," "You sure about that?"
"Is this the only reason you called me?" she continued. "You know me better than that, I let you have your space then I ask what's wrong. You had years to yourself now talk to me."
"I'm not sure what you want me to say," "The last time I saw you was at Seans' funeral, I remember you didn't talk to anyone and disappeared after he was put in the ground. We all know that it was a suicide, it was all over the news but you…you looked so guilty."
"That's because it was my fault," She said lowly. Siren didn't want to have this conversation over the phone but at this rate it couldn't be helped.
"Siren you can't blame yourself for what he did-" "Yes I can, because…it wasn't a suicide…I shot him. I'd already drivin' him to the point of insanity without even realizing it. My quirk made him see things and caused him to think that he needed to posses me, own me… Deep down I could tell he was battling with himself trying to regain control but in the end he lost…I'll never forget it I had just gotten home from our flight back from the tour we did in Europe and all I could think about was a hot shower and sleeping in a familiar bed. I was starting to undress when I heard the click of the safety. He had the gun pointed at my head and we talked briefly before I tried to fight him off and when I took the gun I just aimed and pulled the trigger…" Her thoughts kept returning to that night and she could feel the anxiety rising along with the threat of tears stinging her eyes.
"I don't get it, I thought your quirk only worked when you sing?" "Honestly there is something about my quirk that even I don't fully understand because if you remember you and Derick where both affected by my quirk at some point because you both kept fighting over me only after we had sex."
"That was part of your quirk? I seriously thought you where trying to pit us against each other," "We where all friends, why would I do that?" "No idea, but that was what I initially thought looking back on it."
Now Sean was…twelve years older than Siren. Yes them having sex was wrong but she honestly didn't know any better and while Sean, the adult in the situation, knew it was wrong too, they both acted on their desires when Siren turned sixteen.
Sleeping with Derick and AJ had been a test for herself. She shouldn't have used them like that without their knowledge but she needed to know that what happened with Sean wasn't going to happen again. So when they started fighting consistently Siren started to feel like a failure once again.
"I was in love with Sean, I only had eyes for him…but after one time he started acting possessive, stopped going to work and caring about himself. I moved out during the third album and tried to distance myself but the damage was done…I never told anyone because the cops said it was self defense and my lawyers paid everyone to say he just killed himself and buried the story so that I didn't have to answer anymore questions" Siren couldn't help as the tears fell down her face. Clenching her hand into a fist she walked over to her open suitcase and moved her clothes to the side to find her travel box. Her heart was racing as she opened the container and pulled out a pre-rolled joint.
AJ stayed quiet for a minute as he thought of what to say next. "I wish you would've told me sooner…but I understand, that explains why you moved and took a break from music." Siren walked back out to the balcony grabbing an empty glass from the mini bar and her lighter on the way.
"I never stopped making music I just wasn't letting anyone hear it. I was in a dark place and so was my music. Everything happened in my apartment so I knew staying there wasn't an option and…I guess if I'm being honest with myself, I was running away…but at the same time I did always want to travel." "You did always like it when we went on tour," Siren smiled with the joint in her mouth as she lit the opposite end and inhaled. "So what made you settle in Japan?" She exhaled the smoke before answering, "I love the culture and the people are pretty cool," "Think you'll ever move back?" "Nah, no reason to," "Guess not with no family," "Hey I'm completely happy on my own," "Are you really though?! Everyone needs someone… are you really ok just fucking your way through life without someone who actually knows and understands you-" "Yes." Her answer was too quick.
"That's a no-" "Eh, hello? I said 'Yes'. I do much better on my own," 'Girl please, you need to stop lying to yourself' she thought criticizing herself.
"Fine then as soon as I move back I'll get a cat, oh wait I hate cats, a dog then-no they need to be walked and trained and I don't have time-fuck it I'll get something." AJ laughed at Sirens mutterings. "Look Siren, you need to forgive yourself about Sean and move on to a healthy relationship with someone normal," "Normal isn't attracted to me, I only draw in the crazies," "Am I supposed to take offense to that?" "We only slept together once so no, I'm talking' about the repeat offenders the ones who can't help themselves but to come back for more," "Just because I didn't, doesn't mean I didn't want to."
"Means you where smart enough not to. Everyone knows sleeping with a Siren gets you into trouble," "Now you're just making things up," "Not really, Sirens are known to bring nothing but despair and destruction to those that hear its song. What if instead I bring destruction with just my pussy?" "Then I'd be dead already," "Maybe there's some fine print somewhere" AJ smiled into the phone. All her jokes where just to cover up her pain but it was nice to know that she was okay.
Siren exhaled more smoke as she ashed the joint into the empty cup and decided it best to change the subject. "The fourth album I wrote is a bit outdated and it's back in Japan, once I get back I can get started on reworking it, but this time I want everyone to contribute two songs, no reason I should be the only one doing most of the work," "Heh, the only reason you wrote everything before is because the label didn't trust the rest of us. You had a proven track record 'Hitmaker.'" Siren rolled her eyes, "And look at you guys now, practically doing it yourselves, Mama is so proud of you," she mocked in her best southern impression and AJ couldn't help but to chuckle at the woman.
AJ could remember meeting Siren for the first time. She was over-confident, stubborn and kept to herself. She had been in the industry just as long as he had and yet she was already well known throughout the different circles. She was 'The Hitmaker,' anything she worked on was pretty much a guaranteed success. So when he got the call that the label needed group members for a band they where putting together he was happy to do it. But once he knew he was going to be working with her he had a feeling things where about to get interesting. And boy did they.
After the mild success of their first album Siren was finally opening up to everyone in the group. Of course between the second and third album preferential treatment of Siren was noticed as the label pushed her out ahead of them to make her stand out, but that was all the labels' doing. According to Siren she was perfectly happy remaining in the group.
Now Siren came off well educated and like a serious know it all brat but as they got to know her it was like she'd never been around other kids before in her life. She was so adult in her words but very childish in her actions. She never talked about her past just said her family was dead and that she was living on the streets when Sean found her singing for change. He took her in and helped her get on her feet.
"I gotta try to get some sleep but I'll save this number and text you later," said Siren pulling AJ from his thoughts. "You better or I'll just call and harass you again," "I'm shaking in my boots over here," "Later" "Bye." Siren sat the phone on the end table and fell backwards onto the bed. Starring at the ceiling Siren tried to clear her mind and not think about the past.
Dabi was walking to the Leagues hideout currently lost in thought. It had been two weeks exactly since he last saw Siren, but he wasn't keeping track.
He pulled his phone from his pocket to check the time as he heard a familiar voice yelling his name. Looking over his shoulder he saw Twice and Toga running to catch up with him. He stops walking and they both stop just behind him and try to catch their breaths. "You guys should get in better shape if you plan to be useful," he said matter-a-factly.
"Says the…guy who…can'tstandhisownflames" Twice was so out of breath he could barely get the words out.
"I rest my case. Come on we're already late," Dabi said rolling his eyes as he resumed walking. "Hey wait, did you see it?" Asked Toga as she walked next to him "What are you talking about?"
"Sirens' new video! Did you see it?" "No and I don't care-" "I think you'll want to see it," muttered Twice who stayed just a bit behind them.
"You're in it!" Toga yelled jumping in front of Dabi. "…What?" "I said 'You're in it'" "Impossible," "Apparently not, see I told you it wasn't really him, it was part of her quirk. That's so cool! Dabi you have to introduce me," she stated poking him in the chest.
He said nothing as he pushed past the enthusiastic teen and stepped into the run down building that was their hideout. Dabi could honestly care less if he was in one of Sirens videos or not. Either way he had more important things to worry about. Feeling his phone vibrate he reached back into his pocket and pulled out the device. It was a text from an unknown number.
Before you go running to my apartment my flight was delayed so I won't be back until tomorrow night. -Siren
'I feel like I should be concerned but she did find out where I live. Not like getting my number would be that much harder.' Dabi thought as he began to type a reply.
I'm more concerned with how you got my number right now. He stopped walking just outside the door of the room that everyone else was in and leaned against the wall as he watched those three dots appear while she typed.
Well maybe you should start holding your phone while you sleep lol
That wasn't funny
And you're a killjoy
I see you want another punishment
No Daddy, anything but that (devil emoji)
I'll see you tomorrow, he smiled as he went to put the phone back in his pocket but it was snatched from his hand by of course Toga.
"I don't think I've ever seen you smile like that Dabi-" "Is it because of Siren?" Chimed in Twice. They both leaned in to look at the phone but Dabi grabbed it back just as quickly.
"Seriously, how old are you guys?" "Come on just tell us, was it her?"
He sighed heavily and stepped into the almost caved in room. "Did she call him 'Daddy' in that one message?" "OMG I didn't see that. How cute you guys have pet names for each other."
"Why can't you guys ever just come in quietly?" Asked Shiguraki who looked more tired than usual.
"Sorry Boss, we where just making fun of Dabis' girlfriend,"
"What?!" Came the collective reply of everyone except Shiguraki.
"She's not my girl-" Dabi tried to say but was interrupted by a voice behind him. "You where right Twice, whoever this girl is did in fact call him 'Daddy'" Mr Compress was standing there with Dabis' phone already in hand as he stared at the messages between him and said 'girlfriend.'
"You too Compress?!" "I enjoy the odd gossip now and again," he admitted as he handed the phone back to its rightful owner.
"I thought I told all of you the last time to keep that shit out of our meetings." Shiguraki was pissed and the expression on his face made it even more apparent.
Just for that Dabi was definitely going to punish Siren as soon as he saw her. And now he had to sit with these idiots and try not to think about it.
