Chapter 7
Adria's POV
I watched as the kids would walk up to one of the 50 (yes, I counted, 50) doors. They would say which class they needed to get to, and with a "Pretty please," they would open the door and disappear. Some kids would just mumble something, wave their hands, and a sipper would appear in front of them, unzip the zipper, and they disappeared too. I wasn't sure how to do the "zipper thing," so I decided that the safest thing to do was do the "door thing." I approached one of the doors and, feeling unbelievably stupid, said,
"Take me to Talents, pretty please."
I opened the door and stepped through. Then I fell down.
I landed in a pile of foam cubes. Wait! I was in a foam pit? Yes, yes I was in a foam pit. What kind of class had a foam pit?
"Hello students," a deep voice said. I jerked my head in the direction of the speaker. I then realized that the other kids in the foam pit who had been chatting were silent.
"Welcome to Talents. My name is ." Partway through speaking, the man, or should I say, the lady had pulled a pink fan out and fanned herself. I and the other students watched in astonishment as the old balding dude changed into a young lady who looked remarkably like Charlotte, the headmistress. She had glossy brown hair and pretty almond-shaped eyes.
"What's a talent? How did ya do that?" I looked in the direction of the speaker, a boy with curly red hair and bright blue eyes. His lips were shaped into a cocky smile.
"Well, Brayden of Cashel, Ireland, a talent is something that you, and only you, have the ability to do. I can shapeshift into different men and women," she answered sweetly.
"Oh!"
"First off, I will tell you why we have talents. Alexzandra is the goddess of Heroes, and her duty is to look inside each and every human and animal's heart. She will look for something, a spark. She will give that hero a hero gift, something as simple as running into someone who could become their best friend or worst enemy. Or something as special as a power, or what we call a talent. The more talents you have, the more the world depends on you. Each and every one of you is a hero or a villain." She finished her talk by leading us out of the foam pit and into a room filled with all sorts of things, including a pool, huge weights, and a bowl of rocks.
We were instructed that today we would discover what our talent, or talents were. I watched quietly as some kids tried to fly, or heal super fast (broken leg, long story).
"Maybe you have a water talent, you seem like that type of person." I turned to see Advik talking to me, and me and the flight reaction jumped back four feet out of surprise. Advik's eyes widened and he zeroed in on my hands.
"Never mind." I glanced at my hands, and I just stood there in shock, staring at my hands.
" , look at her hands!" he said, pointing to me.
"My, my, Adria, it looks that you have the power of eternal flame, very rare, very dangerous, and very powerful." Her words were terrifying, but her face was scary calm.
I felt a rush of uncontrollable anger that scared me, I wanted to be calm about this, but my emotions wouldn't
listen; I felt as if something was controlling them. Then I felt completely calm, the anger had gone as quickly as it had come. I stared around the room to see that everyone was arguing and fighting with each other. The only people who were calm and not fighting were Advik and myself. I looked at him to see that he was as shocked as I was.
Not knowing what else to do, (I was desperate!) I yelled.
"I'm Captain Underpants!" I yelled as loud as I could. Silence.
After my little "eternal flame" thing happened, class went on as normal, one kid could turn water into Sunny D (very helpful). Partway through, the biggest surprise was that Advik could summon dead squirrels, I asked him if he could conjure dead acorns, and I was rudely pushed into the pool. RUDE! I stayed underwater for a few minutes so that way I could at least give him a scare.
"A, are you okay!, are you hurt?" I heard someone shouting above the water. Uh-oh. I emerged from the water to see a scared , and Advik with a very pale face.
"What?" I asked cautiously. I looked at myself to see if I had grown a monkey tail or sprouted wings. Nope.
"You were underwater for 10 minutes," Advik said shakily.
R&R, Enjoy!
