POKEMON : LET'S GO
Episode 7 : A Brock Strong Leader
"What can be better for Chase more than reaching the first step of the ladder to the Pokemon League. Here he is at Pewter City, ready to take on his very first Gym Battle!"
Chase and Pikachu restlessly searches the streets of Pewter City for the Gym. Elaine walks beside her, Eevee following her. She tries reading a map, but finds it very confusing and puts it back in her bag. However, they spot the Pokemon Center. Elaine suggests stopping in to ask Nurse Joy about the Pewter Gym. Chase agrees and they head inside the Pokemon Center. Chase hurriedly approaches Nurse Joy and asks her about the Gym. She is startled by his sudden appearance. However, keeping her calm, she tries describing them the route to the Pewter Gym, but it seems to be way complicated. A boy in black trousers and white button less full sleeve shirt listen to the conversation. He offers to lead them to the Gym. Chase and Elaine follow the boy who introduces himself as Riley, an acquaintance of Brock.- The Pewter Gym Leader. Chase and Elaine also introduce themselves and share their goals. Chase reveals his aim of becoming the greatest Pokemon Trainer in the world. Riley reveals that he wants to join the police force as a detective. Elaine, however, is unsure of her goal. Riley also tells Chase that Brock specialises in Rock-types. Meanwhile, they happen to reach the Pewter Gym.
Meanwhile, Team Rocket eavesdrop on them from a distance. Jessie tries to think over a plan to steal Chase's Pikachu. However, Meowth suggests stealing the Pokemon from the Gym Leader as well who will be having surely strong Pokemon. But, James points out that it could be difficult to enter the Gym and steal Pokemon, much to others dismay. Meowth takes on the task to figure out a way of entering the Gym and stealing Pokemon.
Riley leads Chase and Elaine into the Gym. Chase is left awestruck by the rocky battlefield inside the Gym. They are greeted by Brock, whom Elaine finds too serious kind of person. Chase, however, directly challenges him for a Gym battle. Brock accepts the challenge, as it is his work. Riley and Elaine take their place in the stands. Chase and Brock get ready for the battle. Brock asks Chase about his experience with Gym Battles, only to know it to be his first Gym Battle. Brock signals to the referee as he starts declaring the rules- both trainers will use two Pokemon, the challenger can change his Pokemon in between the battle but the Leader will not, the one with the last Pokemon standing will be the winner.
Brock calls out Geodude as his first Pokemon. Chase scans it in his Pokedex to know its Rock/Ground typing. However, he ignores it and sends out Pikachu to the battle. Riley notices him to be overconfident. The battle commences with Pikachu using Thunderbolt with all his might. It hits its mark, but Geodude remains unaffected. Brock tells the shocked Chase that Electric-type moves do not affect Ground-types. Pikachu rushes in with Quick Attack. Geodude uses Defence Curl, Pikachu collides with it head on, but ends up hurting himself. Brock comes out of his quite and silent demeanour and turns to an aggressive strategy. On his command, Geodude uses Rollout. Pikachu manages to dodge it, but Geodude returns and makes a hit. Pikachu uses Quick Attack to again, but Geodude's Rollout collides with him, knocking him out. Chase, shocked, goes to pick up Pikachu and thanks him for giving in his full effort. He picks Pikachu and hands it over to Elaine to care of him.
Outside, Meowth is still busy thinking a way to enter the Gym as Jessie and James watch the match through binoculars. James praises the Geodude's strength as it has seen Pikachu being defeated for the first time. Jessie supports his notion. Meowth asks them to keep quiet as he thinks.
Chase returns to continue the battle and sends in Bulbasaur. Elaine is worried as Chase is not familiar with Bulbasaur, but Riley praises the decision as Bulbasaur being a Grass-type will have an advantage against Geodude. Brock asks Chase to begin his attack. Bulbasaur uses Razor Leaf, Geodude uses Defense Curl, raising his defence stats and endures the attack. Geodude rushes in with Rollout but, Bulbasaur dodges. However, Geodude returns with his attack and makes contact. Bulbasaur uses Vine Whip to get hold on Geodude. But, the plan fails as the rolling Geodude prevents Bulbasaur's vines from having a grip on itself. It returns with a powerful Rollout that lands a critical hit. Suddenly, Bulbasaur gets covered with a green aura. Riley recognises it as Bulbasaur's ability- Overgrow, that makes its Grass-type moves stronger. Chase, now confident, orders for a Vine Whip. Geodude uses Rollout to dodge and prepares to attack. Bulbasaur quickly retaliates with Razor Leaf that hits its mark and lands a critical hit. However, Geodude manages to hit its mark before fainting. Both Pokemon fall down and faint. As Chase's both Pokemon have fainted and Brock is still left with a Pokemon, he is declared the winner of the match.
Brock calls back Geodude and appreciates its performance. He approaches Chase and asks him to prepare well before challenging a Gym. He suggests training with his Pokemon to learn about their skills as every Pokemon has it's own speciality just like its trainer. Chase does not understand whether it was a compliment or suggestion. However, he promises to return for a rematch before leaving. Brock gives him a serious, expression-less look. Elaine still finds him strange. Chase, not bothering it, thinks about training more with his Pokemon to be able to defeat Brock. Riley waves them goodbye, wishing Chase luck for his rematch, which he accepts gladly.
As the episode ends, Meowth is still trying to figure out a way to enter the Gym. Jessie and James leave him alone and get off to find a good place to have dinner.
