Chapter 7-An Unwelcomed Visit
After running around after the check ups, the pups went inside to relax. Everest was already in the Lookout watching Apollo the super pup.
-Rubble: I didn't know Apollo was on!
Rubble runs over and lays on the rug infront of the screen. The other pups follow him. Ryder walks in and watches the show with the pups. After twenty minutes the show ends.
-Rubble: (sadly) Aahh.
-Ryder: Pups, since the show is over I want to discuss something with you.
-Chase: Sure Ryder, what is it?
Ryder sits on the couch.
-Ryder: Does any of you know what a gun is?
The pups looks at each other.
-Rocky: I guess we don't.
-Ryder: And I'm glad that you all don't know, but sooner or later you will have to find out. That loud sound from last night that came from the truck...that was a gun.
-Chase: Does it relate to my vehicle getting a flat tire?
-Ryder: Yes. A gun is a weapon that shoots a piece of metal at such a high velocity it can penetrate and go through your body.
-Marshall: That sounds like it would hurt.
-Ryder: It does, extremely. Usually getting hit a few times will kill you. That was why I didn't want to chase the truck. Chase's tire was shot and I thought that Chase was hit. If we continued to follow the truck one of us would've died.
-Everest: So why didn't they shoot me?
-Ryder: I'm not sure. But maybe they needed you alive.
-Skye: But why did they take Everest in the first place?
-Ryder: My guess, to learn about you pups. To learn how you all can talk.
-Rocky: Speaking of talking, why didn't you tell the scientists why we can talk?
-Ryder: If I did they would have taken you to study.
-Chase: Wait... So the scientists AND the drivers in the truck wanted to take us?
-Ryder: I see where you are going with this Chase, and it might be related but no one can be certain.
-Chase: Do you think it is related?
Ryder thinks for a moment.
-Ryder: ...Yes.
-Rubble: So what do we do?
-Ryder: There is not much we can do about it. We don't know where they are or who they are. The only thing we can do is to hope that they will stop.
-Zuma: And what will happen if they capture us?
-Ryder: First of all, I won't let them capture any of you. And second of all, if they did take one of you then it won't be long intil I get you back.
Silence fills the room.
-Everest: Thanks for caring for us Ryder.
-Ryder: I'm always going to care, you all are my family.
The pups leans in and gives Ryder a hug. During the hug Ryder looks at the clock. 8:10.
-Ryder: So pups...what should we do now?
The pups think and think.
-Chase: Pup pup boogie.
-Skye: Yeah, pup pup boogie!
-Rocky: You two can play that game, but I am going back outside to continue tug of war.
-Zuma: I'm following Rocky.
-Rubble: Me too.
-Marshall: Me three.
-Everest: Me four.
-Ryder: Then it is settled. Chase and Skye, I'll get the game out for you two. The rest of you, the rope is already out there for tug of war. Have fun.
Marshall, Zuma, Rubble, Everest, and Rocky goes outside and plays tug of war. Chase and Skye waits for Ryder to set up the pup pup boogie game. Ryder lays down the mats and plugs in the game to the screen, then plugs in a different cord to an outlet. The game comes on in a second. Chase and Skye picks their characters and start playing, while Ryder goes down the elevator to watch the other pups. Skye and Chase passes the first two levels easily.
-Skye: Your not going to beat me Chase.
-Chase: I wasn't really planning on it.
After a little bit of playing, the game got to Skye's favorite part.
-Skye: Tailspin!
Skye and Chase spins on their tails. Skye does it perfectly but Chase spun and bumped into Skye, knocking both of them down. They both laugh.
-Chase: Sorry Skye.
-Skye: Don't worry about it Chase. It was a mistake.
They both stand back up and face each other. Chase staring into Skye's beautiful eyes and Skye staring into Chase's handsome eyes.
-Chase: (in his head) Tell her Tell her Tell her!
-Skye: (in her head) Tell him Tell him Tell him!
-Ryder: Hi you two.
Chase and Skye looks at Ryder.
-Ryder: How are you two doing?
-Chase: We are doing fine Ryder Sir. Skye beat me in pup pup boogie again.
-Skye: Hey, you almost got the tailspin right.
-Ryder: You two continue what you were doing. I just wanted to check on you.
Ryder goes back down the elevator.
-Chase: So Skye, you want to play again?
-Skye: Actually, I rather rest a little. I didn't have much sleep last night.
Skye walks over and jumps on the chair, laying down on it.
-Chase: No one had enough sleep last night. Can I...I don't know... lay with you?
Skye scoots over leaving enough space for Chase.
-Skye: (smiling) I don't mind.
Chase jumps up on the chair and lays beside her. Both of them instantly falling asleep.
The pups in the Lookout's yard plays tug of war. There were only two ropes out. Zuma and Rocky pulled on one and Rubble and Everest pulled on the other. Marshall sat beside the Lookout, looking at the other pups. Instead of watching them he was deep in thought. Ryder noticed Marshall not playing.
-Ryder: Marshall... Marshall...
Ryder taps Marshall's shoulder.
-Marshall: Huh, yeah Ryder?
-Ryder: Is there something wrong?
-Marshall: No Ryder, I was just thinking.
-Ryder: Thinking about what?
-Marshall: Oh, it's nothing.
-Ryder: It is something Marshall. Tell me.
Marshall lets out a sigh.
-Marshall: I was thinking about Everest.
-Ryder: Marshall, you need to tell her how you feel about her.
-Marshall: Well... she already knows.
-Ryder: So you told her already?
-Marshall: No, she figured it out.
-Ryder: Oh... Do you know if she likes you back?
Marshall thinks about Everest's checkup.
-Marshall: I think she does.
-Ryder: That's good to hear Marshall. Now I'm going to see how Skye and Chase is doing. You try to have fun.
Ryder pats Marshall's back and goes up the elevator. Marshall watches Rubble quit playing tug of war and walks to him.
-Rubble: Hey Marshall, can you take my place? I need to get a drink.
-Marshall: I guess.
Marshall walks over and plays tug of war with Everest.
-Marshall: Everest, I actually wanted to talk to you.
-Everest: Okay.
-Marshall: What we did in the truck, was kind of, early.
-Everest: Well, it was in the morning.
-Marshall: No, I mean age wise. We're too young to do that.
-Everest: Well, if it is with your love I don't add age restrictions.
-Marshall: You...love me?
Everest yanks on the rope and Marshall comes flying toward her. She wraps her arms around him and hugs.
-Everest: Of course I love you. And I know you love me.
Marshall and Everest leans there muzzles closer to kiss, but was interrupted by Zuma and Rocky.
-Rocky/Zuma: Awww!
Marshall and Everest pushes each other off.
-Marshall: Were you both listening!?
-Zuma: Uh, yeah dude. Your right beside us.
-Everest: (laughing) Right, I forgot about that.
-Rocky: Now, what did you two do in a truck?
Marshall and Everest looks at each other.
-Marshall: Don't worry about it.
When Rubble gets done drinking some water he sees Ryder going down the elevator.
-Rubble: Hey Ryder, where did you go?
-Ryder: I went up the Lookout to check on Skye and Chase.
-Rubble: And how are they?
-Ryder: They were fine. But before I said anything they were staring at each other.
-Rubble: It is probably a lover's thing.
Rubble and Ryder laugh.
-Ryder: So, what were you doing?
-Rubble: I went to get a drink.
-Ryder: Wouldn't your nose be wet from drinking the water?
-Rubble: Nooo... We don't use our noses to drink. Why would you ask something like that?
-Ryder: Marshall's nose was wet and he said it was wet because he drunk some water.
-Rubble: Dogs noses is usually wet anyways.
-Ryder: I know but Marshall's was noticeably wet.
-Rubble: Maybe he lied.
-Ryder: Maybe...
Ryder checks the time on his pup pad. It read 8:29am.
-Ryder: You know Rubble, Apollo the super pup comes on in a minute.
-Rubble: What! I won't make it on time!
Rubble runs to the elevator and takes it up.
-Ryder: (in his head) I hope Chase and Skye don't mind if Rubble can have the tv.
Ryder continues to watch the pups.
Rubble gets to the top of the Lookout and runs to the screen.
-Rubble: The pup pup boogie game is still on. So where is Chase and...
Rubble sees Chase and Skye laying beside each other on the chair, asleep.
-Rubble: It's a lovers thing.
Rubble changes the screen's source to tv, then flipped through the channels intil he found Apollo. Rubble watches it for fourteen minutes before Chase and Skye woke up.
-Rubble: You two love birds just missed Apollo the super pup.
Skye doesn't say anything and Chase wonders why Skye didn't reject what Rubble said, so he also says nothing. Skye jumps down to the floor and stretches. Chase waits intil Skye moves and does the same.
-Rubble: Do you love birds want your game back because I'm done watching tv.
-Chase: We are not love birds Rubble.
-Rubble: But you two would be great together.
Skye took the elevator down, ignoring the conversation. When Skye was gone Chase heads over to the elevator, waiting for it to let Skye off on the bottom.
-Chase: We would be good together.
-Rubble: Your going to need to make the first move Chase.
Chase presses the elevator's button. The elevator kicks on and goes up to the top of the Lookout.
-Chase: It is starting to look that way.
Chase walks in the elevator.
-Rubble: Are you going to?
Chase presses the 'down' button.
-Chase: I don't know.
The elevator's glass doors close and Chase leaves. Rubble unplugs the pup pup boogie game and turns off the tv. Then walks to the elevator.
-Rubble: Looks like I need to try harder.
Rubble takes the elevator down.
Ryder looks at the clock on his pup pad, which read 12:34pm. The pups took a long break for a while, laying in the grass. They soon decided to play tag while Ryder sat beside a tree, taking a nap while the pups rested. He woke up from hearing the pups laughing and having fun.
Ryder hears a noise from the driveway, so he turns to see a car pull up to the lookout. The car stops and two people gets out. The pups stop playing and stays with Ryder, which Ryder stood up and went over to the car.
-Ryder: Hello, again.
Jefferson and Nicholas looks at Ryder.
-Jefferson: Ryder, we are here to convince you.
-Ryder: You can take as long as you want because nothing will convince me to hand over my pups.
-Jefferson: Nicholas.
Nickolas pulls out a briefcase and hands it to Jefferson. Jefferson lays the briefcase on his arms, with his hands pressing the two front buttons. The briefcase opens showing only cash.
-Jefferson: What about a million dollars?
Ryder looks at it, slowly raising his hands to pick up some of the money.
-Ryder: Wow! No!
Ryder says both words with the same amount of excitement, trying to mess around with the scientists. Ryder and the pups found it funny but the scientists didn't. Ryder raises his hands to the top of the briefcase and closes it. Jefferson puts on a frown.
-Jefferson: Okay.
Jefferson gives back the briefcase to Nicholas.
-Jefferson: You know we will give you replacements.
-Ryder: That doesn't change my mind.
-Jefferson: What about the money and anything else you choose?
-Ryder: (getting mad) No.
-Jefferson: Then you leave me no choice.
Jefferson pulls out a piece of paper and hands it Ryder.
-Ryder: What is this?
-Jefferson: A paper from the president ordering you to give us your pups.
The pups gasped, hearing the conversation. Ryder slowly reads the paper. He then crumples it up and lets it fall to the ground.
-Ryder: (angry) I am not giving my pups to you, even if everybody in the world told me to! You can send more scientists, you can send the police officers, state marshalls, SWAT team, the army, or the president himself here to hold me down while you take the pups away and dissect them, but know this! YOU, WONT, SUCCEED!
-Jefferson: (smiling)...I bet I can get your father to convince you.
And with that Ryder loses himself. Ryder throws a punch and hits Jefferson right in his nose, causing him to fall to the ground.
-Jefferson: OOWWW!
Ryder's fist was stained with blood.
-Ryder: (shouting) GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!
Nicholas picks up Jefferson and they both leave. Ryder is shaking from anger, fists still clenched.
-Ryder: Pups, I need some alone time. You all do something.
Ryder walks over to the elevator and presses the 'up' button forcefully, cracking it. When he leaves Rocky picked up the crumpled paper and walks to his vehicle and puts it up, thinking it might be important later.
-Zuma: Wow, that was the maddest I ever seen Ryder.
-Rubble: Yeah, someone should talk to him.
-Marshall: But who?
The pups look at each other.
-Skye: I think Chase should.
Everybody looks at Chase.
-Chase: What, why me? Everest is the oldest here, she would know what to say.
-Everest: Yeah, but you know Ryder better than us.
The pups nods in agreement.
-Chase: If I go up there someone is going with me.
The pups looks at each other again, wondering who would also go. Marshall steps forward.
-Marshall: I'll go with you Chase.
-Chase: Thanks. Now lets talk to Ryder.
Chase and Marshall takes the elevator up to the top floor of the Lookout. When they stepped out of the elevator they don't see Ryder anywhere.
-Marshall: Where is he?
Chase sees that Ryder's bedroom's door is shut.
-Chase: I think he is in his bedroom.
Chase and Marshall walks up to the door and knocks. The door opens and Ryder is standing there. Chase and Marshall looks pass Ryder and sees that the bedroom is a mess.
-Ryder: Hi pups.
-Chase: Hi Ryder. We was wondering if you are okay.
-Ryder: I'm fine.
-Marshall: Your room doesn't look fine.
Ryder looks at his room, realizing what he did.
-Ryder: I just got a little mad pups.
-Chase: A little? Everything in your room is torn to shreds.
-Ryder: I couldn't control myself this time.
The rest of the pups show up behind Marshall and Chase. Ryder steps out and closes the door so the other pups don't see the mess.
-Ryder: I'm sorry pups that you seen me like that. I usually don't lose my temper.
-Everest: It is okay Ryder. Anybody in that situation would of did the same thing. That one deserved the broken nose anyways.
-Ryder: He did but I shouldn't have cussed, or even punched him.
-Chase: Jefferson was threatening your life Ryder, he deserves more than a punch and cussed at.
-all pups: Yeah.
Ryder was disgusted at the pups.
-Ryder: I didn't teach you pups to think that violence is the answer.
-Chase: Sorry Ryder.
The rest of the pups says sorry.
-Ryder: It is okay. I always figured sooner or later something will be dealt with attacking and cussing. I just don't want you guys to experience it. But it is starting to look like the opposite of what I wanted.
Ryder bends down and gives the pups a hug.
-Ryder: I'm sorry to say but we should head over to Jake's cabin to investigate soon.
-Rocky: we'll get our uniforms on and get into our vehicles.
-Ryder: Okay.
The pups follow what Rocky said and heads to the slide to their pup houses.
Before Chase took the slide Ryder stops him.
-Ryder: When you go down Chase get into your spy vehicle.
-Chase: Yes sir Ryder sir!
Chase said is usually sentence in such a respectful way Ryder couldn't help but smile. He watches the rest of the pups, including Chase, go down the slide before he takes his pole down to his four wheeler.
When the pups reach the end of the slide none of them jumped into a vehicle. Instead, when they landed on the ground where they walked to their houses, barked them to turn into automobiles, put on their uniforms, and waited for everybody else at the driveway. Ryder waited with the pups on his four wheeler until the last pup arrived. Everest was last to show since she forgot where she put her snow plow.
-Ryder: Alright, that is everybody, now lets go.
Ryder and the pups head to Jake's cabin.
