Chapter 2: Excelsior! Part 2
*RING! RING! RIN-*
"And that's time! For those who didn't finish? that just *beep*-ing sucks! Not my problem though!" The 'teacher', who everyone doubted was qualified to be a teacher or anywhere near children, announced, signaling the end of the written portion of the exam. also, where was that beeping coming from?
Peter wasn't dumb, at least not when it came to tests or school, but even he had to admit that the test he had just taken straight up sucked.
It was full of basic hero laws and events, but at points, most of it was just trivia. How was he supposed to know what planet Gamora got her license on? he didn't even know if her license even meant anything since all her work was out in space!
From what he understood, his new friend, at least he thinks they're friends, Pietro Maximoff finished the test in about 15 minutes. He guessed this since Pietro was tapping his foot uncontrollably since he had to stand still without purpose for longer than a minute.
"Alright, nerds! Off to the practical we go! Also, try not to die cause I don't wanna lose my teacher's license just yet! But if you can't help it, do it in a funny way! Now c'mon!" After saying this, Deadpool suddenly threw a smoke bomb at his feet, he then left while coughing through a backdoor.
"This can't be real" Peter pinched the bridge of his nose, if he had known Deadpool would teach here he might've gone to Xavier's academy, he doesn't know if he can deal with him for his first year.
"Dude, let's go! we got an exam to ace! race ya to the site! Pietro said and just like that, he was gone in a blue streak, this year was gonna be interesting.
Pietro was practically bouncing off the walls, he is never able to cut loose like this! he could picture himself running around to his heart's content smashing robots left and right, he wondered how Wanda was feeling at the moment.
Truth is, he was worried about her. Her quirk was powerful, but overuse could severely damage her mental health, he always told her to not push herself to that point but she got harder and harder to talk to as they grew up.
He decided to not dwell on that possibility, she was smart and responsible enough to know how to take care of herself. At least that's what he hoped.
"Hey, Pietro!" Peter called out as he approached the entrance to the faux city that was site D at a light jog, looking at it this closely was amazing, Stark industries must have a huge budget.
"Took ya long enough! Anyway, you got a plan or something?" Pietro asked as he tapped his foot rapidly
"Eh, not really. I was planning on just swinging around doing what I can, you know? it normally works out for me."
"Sounds simple, I like that! Anyway, when's this thing starting? im just itching to get started!" Pietro exclaimed, he seemed really excited. a bit of his optimism was rubbing off on Peter, making him slightly less nervous.
"Alright, the exam starts in 30 seconds! Better brace yourself! We don't accept chumps here, ya know?!" Deadpool announced over the loudspeakers around the testing site.
"Hey," Pietro put a hand on Peter's shoulder "Good luck out there, man!" He said with a reassuring smile.
Peter smiled back and said, "You too." 'Yeah, maybe he won't be a bad friend to have." He thought as he looked ahead.
Wanting to look at who he'd be competing against, Peter turned his head to his right and saw two people that for some reason caught his eye.
One was a girl about an inch shorter than him with green eyes and black hair, She was wearing an all-black sports bra and sweatpants. She had a look of focus and determination in her eyes as she looked ahead towards the city. The one thing that stuck out for him were the two small scars on her cheek, he didn't know why but he felt as if they had a big story behind them.
The other person that caught his eye was a boy about his height, blonde hair and blue eyes wearing a white tank top and black sweatpants. He was rubbing his forearm as if it was strained, looking ahead with anticipation.
He was snapped out of his thoughts by a loud horn blaring, and the loudspeakers coming to life.
"READY, SET, GO! NOW! GO DO STUFF! REAL HEROES DON'T GET COUNTDOWNS!" The merc with the mouth yelled from his observation booth.
Peter, now behind those who already started moving at the start of the announcement, jumped over the crowd and shot a web at what looked to be a robot with the number 1 painted on its chest.
Using all his strength, he pulled himself towards the robot, smashing through its chest and out the other side sending bits of scrap everywhere.
'That's one point so far, these guys aren't actual people so that means I can go all out!' The boy thought as he proceeded to zip from robot to robot, smashing through them in the process amounting to a total of 13 points.
Seeing that a lot of the robots that were in the area were either destroyed or fighting some other people, the one that stood out the most was a girl that made a hoard of squirrels tackle and rip a robot apart, which was pretty intense.
He shot a web at a nearby building and started to swing towards an area that was empty of other people at the moment, he saw that it had about 34 points worth of robots so he got to work handling them.
Shooting a web at the ground and pulling sent him straight down, slamming 3 robots under him in the process, He shot up and did a spin kick that hit 2 robots in the head, taking them out.
Webbing up the scraps from the 'villains' he had destroyed, he swung it around and hit 5 robots directly, making them exploit into pieces, he was about to jump at the last 6 robots until he felt a gust of wind and aw a blue streak smash through his targets.
"Sorry, Bud!" Pietro yelled as he ran by after stealing his points.
"Dude! Not coo- Ugh, whatever" Peter groaned as he got ready to swing off in a different direction that did not include any speedsters until he heard a sound he couldn't ignore.
"Damn it, help!" A boy yelled from about 20 feet behind him. Peter turned around to see a boy with the head of a deer cornered by a group of five 2 pointers and cowering against a wall.
"Time to be a friendly fake neighborhood testing site Spider-Man!" He shot a web towards the group of 2 pointers and pulled himself towards it in an effort to help the deer headed boy.
"comin' through!" Peter yelled as he shot through all the robots that were lined up, then his spider-sense started tingling. The robots turned their... eyes? visor? Peter wasn't really sure what to call them, but he was snapped out of his thoughts when the robot's arms into morphed into guns much to everyone's surprise.
"Is that a gun?! How is that safe!? I'm a literal 15-year-old in a school exam!" He yelled as he avoided the gunfire from the robots, noticing that they were rubber bullets made him calm down a bit but it didn't take away the feeling of being shot at.
Man, people were right when they said M.A was crazy, he would say that there's no way they'd be crazy enough to pack guns into robots that students would fight but they hired Deadpool. It was probably his idea now that he thought about it.
He shot webs at the robots guns/arms and pulled, tearing them off in the process, he then swung them around back into the robots, making them explode.
"Hey, deer guy, you good? I'd make a Bambi joke but I feel like that'd be in bad taste since I just got shot at."
"Y-yeah, whatever. Outta my way." The deer guy, who Peter was gonna call Bambi, got up and pushed past the crowd towards another part of the city.
"Yeesh, maybe I should've made a Bambi joke," Peter said to himself, but before he knew it, he felt his spider-sense go off immensely.
Before he could turn around, he heard a blast of... something hit the robot about to shoot him in the back of the head, he likes to believe that he could have dodged it, at least he hoped he could.
The boy turned his head to see that blonde guy he had seen at the gate of the exam, he decided he might as well thank him for his help.
"Uh, thanks for the help, man! Name's Peter by the way." The brunette said as he extended out his hand towards the savior that he totally didn't need.
"Clayton Cole. You're that spider guy, right? from what I've seen you're good but you could be better without the jokes, you know?" Ouch, that hurt.
"Eh, they're part of my charm, you know?"
"You have charm?" Clayton chuckled.
"Wow, that's harsh. Anyways, I gotta get going and all, see ya!"
Peter proceeded to swing from the top of buildings to get a better vantage point for points, he didn't want to take anyone else's points so he didn't try to attack robots other people were fighting, which mean the just stood perched on a ledge like usual, waiting for something to happen.
He saw incredible quirks all around him, there was a guy with a see-through pink body that lit himself on fire and tackled a robot, then that squirrel girl came back with even more squirrels and rampaged through a bunch of 1 pointers hiding inside buildings.
Up in the teacher's booth, pro heroes watched the applicants in action and graded them on their performance.
"Hey Logan, that girl of yours ain't doing that bad, although she seems a bit... intense. I guess she takes after ya, huh?" A raccoon sitting on a chair commented, only to get a chuckle out of the man he was speaking to.
"Anyone else interests you guys? That Reyes kid is steamrolling through the exam right now."
The camera switched over to a Hispanic boy with a white streak on his hair summoning fire and metal chains from out of nowhere and taking down a group of 3 pointers at an intersection with ease.
"I bet you guys 20 bucks that kid gets the top spot." Said one hero.
"Nah I'm betting on that Laura girl, 50 bucks." Said the raccoon.
"Hey, stark." Tony Stark, also known as the hero iron man, turned his head to see Carol Danvers speaking to him.
"You not gonna bet on that spider kid? Parker, was it?" She asked curiously.
"Nah," Stark said as he looked up at the screen to see Peter save 3 people from some falling debris.
Finally, he smirked and said, "That'd be too easy."
Tony couldn't believe how far Peter had come, he was rescuing and helping random applicants left and right while some didn't even look the other way. And he did it all in his carefree and jokey nature to put others at ease, thinking of this brought smile to his face.
"Hey, Stark! How 'bout we get the real test going?" The raccoon asked.
A panel that had a button with the number 0 written on it was brought in front of tony.
"Yeah, let's do that." With a smirk, he pressed the button, not a minute later sirens blared all across the testing site.
*BOOM*
A large explosion rang out from the center of the faux city, and from the crater that was created rose a mass of metal that towered over the buildings.
"TARGETS FOUND, SEVERAL!" It boomed loud enough for the whole testing site to hear as it began to move forward on wheels that looked like they were taken from a tank.
"holy shit" Peter whispered in disbelief, his current emotion was shared by all others around him. He had seen ant-man grow giant on TV but this was probably twice that size!
"RUN!" A girl screamed, prompting everyone to start running away from what Peter could only guess what a zero pointer.
He was about to do the same before he noticed a group of what seemed to be 4 people trapped under rubble.
"Damn it!" He cursed under his breath as he sprinted towards the massive robot, before hearing familiar voices call out to him from behind.
"PETER/PARKER!" He turned to see both Pietro and Clayton running up to him along with the green-eyed girl he saw from the beginning of the exam.
"Guys! and girl that I don't know!" Peter yelled as the group caught up to him.
"Are you crazy? Dude, we gotta run away from this thing! What are yo-" Pietro was cut off by the girl suddenly speaking up?
"There are 5 people trapped under rubble that fell when the zero pointer appeared about 50 feet in front of us. I am guessing the one named Peter was going to help, correct?" She said with a stoic expression
Her tone of voice was both cold and mechanical, yet Peter could feel determination somewhere in there. He wasn't complaining though, he was gonna need some help taking down a 200-foot robot.
"Alright, Pietro, you go in and get them out as fast as you can. Clayton, your quirk causes vibrations, right? Destroy the ground once Pietro gets the people out so the robot stops moving" Pietro nodded before dashing away while Clayton put in hands on the ground as preparation.
"Alright, what can you do?" Peter said as he turned to the girl, her only response was pulling out 2 metal claws from her knuckles with a *Snikt!* and making a cut on her forearm which healed in seconds.
Peter looked at the claws for a second while he took in the information. "Alright, I can work with that. I'm guessing you got wolverine powers, right? How about I throw you and you cut through that thing?" Peter said.
She thought for a moment before nodding.
"Cool, now let's wait for Pie-" With a gust of wind and a blue streak, Pietro appeared in front of them placing the 5 people down on the ground.
"Alright, I'm done." He said as stretched and dusted his clothes off. "Clayton, hit it!"
"On it!" Clayton yelled back as his hands began to vibrate.
With a *VRRRM* The pavement in front of them started to crack and split apart loudly, making the zero pointer fall to its knees, or what looked like knees.
"Ok, that shou-" Clayton was cut off by the sound of metal grinding and the robot standing up, gripping buildings for support and starting at them with it's one red eye while it roared.
"That's awesome, but new plan! Pietro, make sure people don't come over here. Clayton, keep doing what you're doing, I'm gonna web it up to stop it from moving even more. And gir-" Peter was cut off by the girl getting on his back.
"Swing us up to its head and drop me off, I'll take care of the rest." She said calmly.
"Sure," He shot a web towards a building and started to swing, yelling "Superfriends, away!"
The robot noticed him approaching and started to swing his arms around in order to hit him after he had stood back up.
"Yeesh, talk about hostile airspace, am I right?" He joked as he dodged the hits, not getting a response from his newfound teammate.
He stuck to the robot and climbed up, with the girl still on his back, he had been trying to make conversation for the past 3 minutes to no avail, maybe she was the silent type?
Once they reached the top of the robot, they could feel it struggling to move on the road that Clayton had destroyed.
"Hey!" Peter yelled, making the girl turn around to look at him with an eyebrow slightly raised. "What's the plan!? Are you just gonna go in and start clawing at stuff?!" He only got a nod in response before she cut through the metal and dropped into the inside of the robot.
"Wow that's cool, but I gotta start doing my part!" He said to himself as he jumped the robot and started to web it up.
At first, it broke through the webbing easily, so Peter webbed the wheels it was moving on to try and slow it down only for it to only slow it down slightly.
"Alright, I'm empire strikes back-ing this thing!" He yelled to himself as he started to swing around the zero pointer, encasing it in webbing from its waist down. Any time it broke through, Peter would go back up and replace the broken webbing and keep adding layers as he fell back down.
"Hey, Pete! Bad news!" Peter stuck to the side of the robot and looked down to see an annoyed-looking Pietro.
"You know how there's a giant robot that's threatening to crush all these guys, right? Funny thing is that they won't leave!" He yelled, Peter looked to the side to the see crowd standing about 20 feet behind Clayton.
"Get them outta here! im gonna do something really stupid right now!" Peter yelled as he grabbed two strands of webbing and jumped down to the ground.
Pietro, now standing next to him on the ground behind the robot, looked at him and asked "How stupid are we talking?!"
"Really stupid!" Peter yelled as he dug his feet into the destroyed ground, attempting to hold the robot back before it reached the crowd.
Peter felt his heart beating a mile a minute, while his vision started to darken as he overexerted his body.
"Dude, are you sure this is safe to attempt!?" Pietro yelled in a worried tone.
"Probably not! Get the people to back up a bit more! That girl said she had a plan to destroy it from the inside, we just gotta buy her more time!"
And with that, the silver-haired boy gave him one last look before he sped off to tell Clayton the plan and to get the crowd to back off.
'C'mon stick 'em powers, don't fail me now!" He yelled in his head as he was getting dragged forward more and more, kicking up pavement under his feet on the way.
He noticed his webbing around the zero pointer coming apart, so he tethered it to the adjacent buildings with the last of his webbing, planning on holding it back for as long as he could.
'C'mon, Parker! You got this you got this you got this! You totally got this!' His consciousness began fading as his gloves tore apart at the palms, making him feel the rope burn from holding onto the webbing.
The webbing attached to the buildings gave away, as his hoodie began to be ripped apart from the force of being pulled this much. He screamed as his ears were filled with the sound of his blood pumping and creaking metal, until suddenly...
The robot stopped.
It creaked as its head fell, and the light in its eye disappeared. The world seemed to stand still until the robot's calf in front of the brunette was cut open, revealing the girl covered dirt and machine parts.
"Hey! Great timing, by the way, any later and I would've dislocated my arm!" He laughed weakly as he fell to his knees in exhaustion.
She walked up to him dusting herself off, "Your left arm IS dislocated, it also looks like you have rope burn in both your hands. It also appears that the friction has destroyed the soles of your shoes." She said calmly.
"Oh, wow. I know it may be too much to ask but could you p-FUCK!" Peter yelled in pain as the girl reached down and popped his arm back into place while he was talking.
Out of nowhere, Pietro came running with a gust of wind while he had Clayton on his back.
"Hey, guys! Are you all alright? no injuries or anything?" Peter asked tiredly.
"I only got a couple of bruises and scratches, But Clayton overused his quirk so he probably has a couple fractures in his arms, good thing he can't feel anything from the shoulder down!" Pietro chuckled and Clayton groaned in annoyance.
Peter laughed softly and looked at the group, "Good job, guys! I don't know where we'd be without Clayton or Pietro! Also, thanks for disabling the robot, uh..." Peter looked at the girl in slight confusion. "Wolverine Jr?" He asked with a grin
"No" She stated.
Peter thought for another moment and said what he thought would be the funniest nickname option.
"Wolverette!" He started proudly.
She exhaled and pinched the bridge of her nose "You're an idiot, my name is Laura." She said with a tone of annoyance, but Peter could have sworn he saw her give a small smile for at least a second.
"Oh wow, what's going on over here?" A female voice called out to the group.
Peter looked towards the source of the sound and saw a woman in her early 30s wearing a lab coat walking up to the group, holding some sort of syringe.
"Woah! you guys got hurt real bad, huh?" She said with a slight chuckle.
She stuck Clayton with the syringe, which seemed to knock him out instantly, and then walked up to Peter while she refilled it.
"Holy shit! Did you kill him!?" Peter yelled as he tried to move away from the lady with the scary syringe that she knocked his friend out with, but the injuries kept him in place.
"Relax, kid, I'm the pro hero night nurse, I am also this school's nurse. This stuff speeds up your recovery process at the cost of your stamina. In other words, you'll be taking a little nap to heal up." She said as she stuck Peter in the arm with the needle.
"Oh... That's cool..." Peter said as the world around him turned dark as he lost what consciousness he had.
(Hey! It's me, the author! We are approaching the end of the entrance exam arc! It was a lot of fun for me to try and introduce what I want Peter's friend group to be during the story, which will be Peter, Pietro, Clayton, and Laura! I might add more people later but that's all of them for now. Next arc will be the Quirk Test arc! that should take like 1 or 2 chapters, I hope you guys are looking forward to it!)
