(Bella's pov)
After dropping Angela off at home I headed off to find the Cullen's household. They didn't give me directions but I didn't need any. I followed their scent trail from after home. After about a 15 minute drive, seeing as this truck barely even reaches the speed limit, I found a long semi-hidden driveway surrounded by the woods.
I pulled up to quite possibly one of the most beautiful houses I had ever seen. It was big and had a modern touch with big windows everywhere, but also looked like a wooden cabin. You were greeted at the entrance with two large smoothly frosted windows taking up most of the door, with The Cullen's engraved at the top of the widow.
I was truly beautifully done. I had made my way up the stairs to knock on the door, but before I had the chance Alice was already there greeting me to come inside.
I stepped into a large room which seemed to be the living room, It had a couch set that included a large sectional and a single chair with a beautiful glass table with a dark brown wood frame holding it up. And of course a flat screen mounted on the wall. There were plants hanging from the ceiling and the walls had been painted and very light stone like gray.
It truly did look like a very elegant piece out of a fairytale, I couldn't help but get distracted in staring at the beautifully decorated living room. "Do you like it?" A soft elegant kind motherly like voice said. I looked over my shoulder to the right to see a woman standing there, she had a very loving smile and beautiful dark caramel coloured hair with pale skin and beautiful kind eyes which were the colour of honey.
I couldn't help but find myself returning the smile, "Yeah, it's amazing" I replied, my voice soft from amazement. "Thank you" she said with a little bit of a laugh, "I decorated the entire house myself." Wow.
Before anyone said something, another man I had only met a few times at the hospital came into the room. Dr. Carlisle Cullen. I had known he was a vampire, obviously, but did not think much of it. I mean if the guy was so bad I don't think he'd work in a hospital filled with blood. I just hadn't realized that he had an entire coven at the time.
Dr. Cullen was very handsome I will admit. He had perfect golden slicked back hair that complimented his pale complexion perfectly and a darker honey gold eyes that held a sort of comfort and support along with his smile. "Hello Isabella, it's nice to see you again" He said with his charming smile.
"Yeah, good to see you too. It's been a while", "Yes, well I assume that's a good thing seeing as we've only ever met at the hospital." I let out a laugh which didn't come out so smoothly making it obvious I was nervous. "There's no need to be nervous dear, The children have explained most of what happens and we all just like to chat about it." The women spoke up, I instantly felt calmer, she made me feel as though I had a mother which was nice. I love and miss Renee, but she had never given me a great motherly affection.
"I'm Esme, by the way" Esme, It suited her. "Isabella" As I introduced myself I heard some shuffling coming from behind me. I turned to look at who it was, it was Jasper. He smiled widely at me and it didn't take long for me to use my abnormal speed to run into his arms and hug him. I felt him tense at the initial touch but quickly loosened and returned my embrace.
While we both still had our arms wrapped around each other Jasper whispered into my ear, "Thank you for doing this," His cold breath against my ear made me weak at the knees. I had put my shield up so he couldn't feel my emotions, since they were all over the place. I especially didn't want Jasper to feel the mass amount of lust I was feeling.
I pulled away to realize that the entire family had been standing behind us the entire time. As soon as I noticed them a light pink took over my cheeks. I noticed Emmett had a smug smile spread wide across his face, "Are Mrs. and Mr. Whitlock finished with their little reunion". Whitlock?. "Whitlock?" I asked, "Oh shut up Emmett. You'll make her uncomfortable and were trying to talk, not scare her away." Alice chimed in, her tone a little more serious than normal.
"Whitlock?" I asked again, if these people wanted answers the least they could do was explain one tiny thing. "Whitlock is my real last name", "oh," I started to blush profusely at the realization that Emmett had just practically called me Jaspers wife. hoping no one would notice, but of course everyone did.
"Oh Emmett, look what you've done. The human's uncomfortable." Rosalie said, obviously trying to sound like a bitch and make me look weak. "Rosalie! That will be enough. You do not treat Bella with disrespect." Carlisle replied with authority in his voice. "Bella darling, come sit, and we'll begin" Esme said with a warm smile motioning over to the chair.
I made my way over to the oversized white leather chair and sat down. The family quickly placed themselves all in front of me. Emmett was sitting on the couch with Rosalie right beside him holding his hand, Edward was sitting on the opposite side of the couch with Alice in his lap. Esme was sitting on the edge of the couch with Carlisle behind her with a comforting hand on her shoulder, and there was Jasper, who was standing up behind them all leaning against a beam with an encouraging smile on his face.
"I'll get straight to the point seeing as the faster this is the better" I began. "I'm not human, quite obviously because of the actions that took place today." I looked over to Esme and Carlisle who were wearing supportive smiles, Esme nodded for me to continue. "Well I'm am human but not completely," I sighed and continued, "Long before I was born, a vampire had seduced my grandmother. Not knowing it was possible for vampires to impregnate humans." "boy were they wrong" I added with a nervous laugh.
I looked around the room and everyone had shocked expressions, I don't blame them. I mean what I am telling them isn't, or shouldn't even be possible. "Not long after, maybe a month or two went by and my grandmother was giving birth to my mother. She didn't make it past the delivery, but my grandfather had stuck around to take care of my mother. At Least he did until my mother was old enough to care for herself. Once she knew what she was, what to do and what not to do in front of people, once she understood what she was capable of and to only ever feed on animals if she ever became thirsty." At this point everybody in the room had their jaws practically on the floor. But since no one was saying anything I kept speaking.
"My mother told me my granddad had said he couldn't stay with her, since she would be in more danger with bad versions of their kind, which I later found out he was referring to the volturi. My mother was still half human after all, I'm sure if the volturi caught wind of her kind something a lot more than a friendly visit would have happened. My mom told me that he would always tell her he loves her so much it causes him pain. Which she would always giggle at when she was little, he had been a very good father towards her, but she was confused when he had left. Because all he said was that he would forever love her and he was deeply sorry for leaving her to fend for herself." I took a moment break before continuing once again.
"My mother told me she searched for him for years but it was like he was swept off the face of the earth. Eventually she gave up and began to live her life as normally as she could, and it worked. She went to school, got a job, and eventually, fell in love." I felt the tears start to form in my eyes knowing I was about to speak about Charlie. I looked up towards the family who were all looking at me with more worried looks now. Esme gave me an encouraging smile and nodded for me to continue.
"She fell hopelessly in love with a man named Charlie, who you would all know as chief swan. She was so in love that she gave up everything for him and they got married, she always kept her true species hidden away since she never wanted to cause anyone pain, as well as she feared rejection. Well one thing led to another and my mother got pregnant, not knowing it was possible since she was half immortal, she was shocked, and nervous. She had no clue what was gonna happen, if I'd survive, or if she would. For all she knew I could have lived the same life as she had. But she was more at peace with the fact that she knew I'd have Charlie, who wouldn't run out on me."
"Several months went by and the pregnancy was completely normal, except for when she went into labor about 4 months early and I was born perfectly fine. The doctors were completely blown away and wanted to keep me and my mother for a bunch of tests, my father being the protective man he was over his family at the time, made sure they never came close to us with anything unnecessary." A few stray tears trickled down my face as I was recalling my first few memories of being born. Remember I wasn't normal so remembering my birth wasn't a huge shocker. "I remember the day I was born So vividly. Me in my moms arms looking up at her and seeing the warmest most loving smile someone could possibly have. And seeing Charlie look down at me with pure admiration and proudness in his eyes." I was painfully smiling at the memories, knowing it hadn't lasted long at all.
"Every time I felt Charlie's arms holding me I was filled with pure joy. We would fall asleep on the couch together and I would wake up when Renee would pick me up and sneak us out for a quick hunt while Charlie was passed out. That had lasted for a few years, I aged very quickly, which, yes people questioned but it was still subtle enough to just pass for a quick growing child. But one day we had gone from a perfect happy family to nothing but an old memory. My mom (Renee) had packed all our stuff and drove us to the airport. I didn't even get a chance to get to say goodbye." Now the tears were falling without stopping, Esme quickly came over to me and held me in her arms running her hand in comforting circles on my back. "Bella darling, you don't need to continue if it is too hard, I don't assume you will be moving anytime soon." She said, trying to make a small joke.
I shook my head and responded, "No, this needs to be done today. I don't know if it can be done another time." I took a deep breath and continued, "When the plane landed, we were in Arizona. We had gone from cold, wet and gloomy, To hot, sunny and dry. I guess me and my mother had some sort of silent agreement to not speak of it because we never did. Not even at the airport. I had no idea why she left and took me with her away from my father. And I still don't know to this day, I spoke to my Charlie over the phone constantly for about the first year. And our phone calls just got less constant to the point of never."
"Renee was never a very great mother, but she was still good. More of a best friend, I loved her unconditionally none the less and supported her through everything. And eventually she met a man named phil. And once again she fell so hopelessly in love with him, they eventually got married and moved in together. It was nice, I guess, to have a family again. I loved Phil and looked up to him as a father, since well, I didn't exactly have one anymore. And he loved me as his own daughter as well." The tears had someone gone away and I was slightly smiling at the thought of phil. I missed him, we had spoken a few times over the phone after I moved, but soon Charlie forced all contact with him to stop. "I had even met my grandfather once, I guess he was traveling through the area when he caught a familiar scent and showed up at our doorstep. My mother was a mess, When she saw him she ran into his arms and cried saying how much she had missed him. And then the next she was screaming at him for leaving her alone. And then she eventually calmed down and they spoke like adults."
"She forgave him, we could both see how sorry he was and how much pain he had been in from being separated from his daughter. When I saw him I was confused because mom had never even mentioned someone who looked like him. But she soon introduced us and we became very fond of each other quickly. Phil had been out of town for work for a few weeks, so while he was gone my grandfather stayed with us. We grew very close in the little amount of time we spent together, but soon Phil was coming back and he had to leave. Me and my mother were both deeply upset about this, but he promised that he would find us again and be with us."
"A little after that life had gone back to normal, or as normal as it could get. We were all happy, Phil had started traveling for work more and more. I felt bad because I was holding my mom back when I knew she wanted to be with Phil. So even though I was still only 14 or 15 at the time, I made the decision to move in with Charlie. I called him for the first time in years, his voice sounded so different I didn't think it was him at first. But it was and I explained to him the situation and he briefly agreed to let me move in. He didn't sound happy to hear from me, or even shocked in the slightest bit. I brushed it off anyways and talked to Renee and Phil about, it took some convincing but finally agreed. All was back on track until I guess my mom had gone out for a hunt alone."
Tears started to take over my eyes again, this time I couldn't hold them back. "We got a call from the hospital stating that my mom was in critical condition from a bear. Which instantly made Phil sit in panic, I was worried but confused. There are only 2 things that can kill us, werewolves and vampires, so I was questioning lots since I didn't even know there were mutts in the area. Me and Phil quickly made our way to the hospital and saw her. She looked dead, her skin paler than it usually was, which was saying a lot. Her entire body was covered except for her head, I assumed it was so we couldn't see the wounds. Phil was instantly at her side stroking her hair and whispering things to her, I couldn't tell what he was saying, everything around me went fuzzy except for that one vision of my mother."
I started sobbing, Esme tried to get me to stop but I insisted on finishing. "I heard a faint voice call my name, it was my mother. She asked Phil for a moment with me and with that he left the room. I went to her side and held her hand. She looked me in the eyes with whatever strength she had left and said 'I want you to get out of here, it isn't safe anymore. I love you so much but I do not have much time left. My dear Bella, never forget me, but move on and be happy. I hope that one day you find a man and fall so in love and experience the best years of your life with him. I hope your dad takes care of you like you deserve. I hope you live your life to the fullest, but you'll need to do it without me my love. I love you always and forever.' and with that she fell asleep. All I could do was pull her hand to my face and cry, I don't know how many times I told her I loved her that day."
"But soon Phil was prying me out of the room and back into the car. For days I was nothing, I couldn't talk or eat, I could barely walk. Eventually I started to live a bit. Still visiting my mother every chance I got. She would often call home as well, My flight to forks was approaching faster than I would have liked it to. I didn't want to leave my mother here, but I knew I needed to, she had told me herself she wanted me to be safe. The day finally came for me to leave, at that point me and Phil had been spending lots of time together and were actually having fun. I actually laughed and smiled for the first time in a while and so did he, I was walking around the house taking my last look as Phil was packing things into the car."
"The phone started to ring so I picked up and it was a woman looking for Phil, he came in and started speaking with her, but he soon hung up and didn't move. That was the phone call we got telling us she died. My mother was actually dead. We all knew it was coming but it still didn't make anything better." I looked back up at the family who were all looking at me with sympathy, even Rosalie.
"Me and Phil made our way to the airport and said our terrible goodbye. And now I'm here. That was 3 years ago." I sighed, thankful that the story was almost over. "If you were wondering, I was homeschooled. That's my story and how This mess happened. I'm half human half vampire. I feed off animal blood and human food, can't live without them both. My blood isn't appealing to you guys because it has venom in it. I share the same abilities as you all including the speed, strength, hearing, pale skin. Sunlight doesn't affect me, My heart beats but if a human's heart were to beat the same rate as mine they'd die. My body temperature is warmer than yours, but again low enough to make a doctor worry about my health."
"My beauty is supposedly intensified because of the overlapping of being a human with natural beauty and having the beauty of a vampire. And I do indeed have my own powers, as I like to call them." Everyone's expression turned into shock once again, except for Carlisle, he was completely intrigued and curious. He was also the first to speak, "What abilities do you possess" so much curiosity in his voice, it made me giggle a bit to myself.
"Some of my abilities have been cut in half I suppose you could say. I can kind of sense what one's ability is. It isn't always certain or right, but I usually have a good idea of it. Like Jasper I know you're an empath, and Edward I know you read mind. Alice, I can tell you have a power but can't identify it. I assume I inherit it from my grandfather since he is capable of seeing what your abilities are. I'm also both a mental and physical shield." Everyone let out a quick gasp, shields were rare, very rare to come across.
"That's why I can't read your mind." Edward said finally not being so frustrated with the fact of it. "And that's why sometimes I can feel your emotions and other times I can't, You're blocking me out." Jasper said with a tinge of hurt in his voice. "Exactly, It's automatic on certain things, for example Edwards power. But I can bring it down if i want. But for other powers if I want to block them out I need to do it myself. Like Jasper for example."
Everybody was soaking in the information they all just received and started exchanging looks. What that was about, I have no idea. Then suddenly my phone started ringing, I quickly took it out of my pocket releasing my shield on Jasper when I read the name, losing all concentration of anything else around me.
I knew Jasper had just been his with a whole storm of emotions and he would definitely be confused. "Bella?" Jasper asked, obviously being cautious with his tone. My head snapped up to the family and I quickly said "I need to take this" and with that I stepped into another room.
I reluctantly answered the phone, knowing what was coming my way. "BELLA!" Charlie shouted in my ear clearly furious. "Bella, where the hell are you. I told you after school straight home. How dare you disobey me!" I couldn't speak, I was so stunned with fear. "Mike is here waiting and by the looks of it you haven't even been home! If you don't get your ass her now I will come and find you. Now tell me, where are you." "I- I- I went to the bookstore because I was missing something for a class." I quickly gasped for air, with the approaching feeling of my lungs closing on me. "I'm so sorry sir I didn't mean to be this late. I'll be home straight away, apologize to Mike for me. I would want to disappoint a customer." I responded obediently. "Oh no, you'll apologize to yourself tonight. I don't care what your excuses are, just come home now!"
"Yes sir," and with that I quickly hung up and made my way back into the living room where the family was. Crap! I just answered that phone call in a house full of vampires. How stupid am I!
I looked around at all the worried expressions, until I met jaspers eyes. He was worried but also trembling with anger. "Bella, what was that phone call about?" Carlisle asked with a soft toned voice. "Oh nothing, I just forgot to tell him where I was. He was worried, I really should be making my way home" I replied putting up my shield to Jasper. I turned to walk towards the door, but quickly someone grabbed me and turned me to face them. It was Jasper, Were barely inches apart and he looked directly into my eyes. I gulped nervously as he began to speak, "I know for a fact that phone call wasn't just a worried father. You are not leaving until you tell me what's going on." His eyes softened a bit before he continued. "I have so many questions, Bella I know somethings going on. I know for a fact one tiny little person wouldn't be able to cause all those bruises and scars herself."
I was now starting to cripple in fear. He noticed. Well of course he noticed, He's the most observant species on the planet. "I know for a fact somebody shouldn't be that nervous to but they hair up or take off a huge hoodie during gym. And I know for a fact nobody should have hand printed bruises around their wrists." The tears started forming in my eyes as he spoke. "So Bella, I'm sorry but you're not leaving this house until I get the real answer I want." With that my knees failed me and I started falling to the ground out of jasper grasp. But of course, he caught me before I hit the ground and held me while I sobbed into his chest.
I could feel the entire family's eyes on me. Quite obviously worried since they were not aware of any of this. Jasper slowly lifted me up into a standing position again, I lifted my head and looked around at the family once again. "Bella, what bruises are Jasper talking about?" Esme asked with full concern in her voice.
"I- I- I can't- talk about it" I managed to stutter out. "Seriously, I need to get home. Please." Jasper's hand cupped my face and brought me eyes to meet his once again. With pleading eyes all he said was "please". And instantly I knew I couldn't say no, even if I did, they wouldn't let me leave without an answer. So I slowly nodded my head and began to explain, "I guess you could say Charlie runs a business. And I guess you could call me and my adopted sisters-" "There's more than just you and Angela?" Alice cut me off. "Yes there's four of us. Charlie only allowed me and Angela to attend school this year. Anyways, I guess you could call his 'his girls'. He practically rents us out to people for money and their pleasure, and sometimes he uses us for his own pleasure."
Loud gasps sounded from around the room, Jasper who was right in front of me started trembling again. "Is that all he does?" He asked clearly, trying to keep the anger out of his voice. "No, he hits us, treats us like animals." I replied, my voice cracking a few times. I quickly dropped my head to look at the ground and hear Jasper mumble, "I'm gonna kill him." "Jasper," Carlisle warned.
A few moments of silence passed until it was interrupted by the sound of my phone ringing again. "It's Charlie," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. Before I could think twice about answering it Carlisle took the phone and answered it. "BEL-" Carlisle cut Charlie off before he could continue.
"Hello chief swan".
Dun dun dunnnnn! What the freak does this man think he is doing. Guess you'll find out next chapter.
