If a month ago, when she was curled on their bed crying herself out, someone had told her that things would have gone back to normal in a few time she wouldn't have believed it. Her head had figured out that fight as something that would have changed things between them forever, some kind of obstacle impossible to overcome and that he wouldn't have trusted her again. But then, here they were. Joking and laughing a month later like nothing had happened, actually things were back to normal the following day but she felt a bit down for a few days after that. She had her old shift back and Cal made her promise not to care about money, that her health was so much more important.
It took her a few days to recover but taking her vitamins and actually eating at lunch helped her a lot.
It was a lazySunday morningwhen they got a call from Boston. The FBI told them the organization was taken down completely and they just needed one week more to see if something happened, otherwise they could go back to Boston as soon as they wanted. They still had a bit less than a month available before her third trimester started so there was at the same moment plenty of time to wait for the FBI but a little time to actually move. Cal had already told her that he could go back and forth to pack and send everything to Boston while she stayed at home and this time, she agreed without complaining.
"Soin one weekthey will let us know if we can come back. We should have at least a little plan to figure everything out in case we move" Cal said running a hand through her hair as they cuddled on the couch.
"Ok so we can take a week to pack everything up and send all the furniture to Jack's house. He has a big garage and I think he will allow us to put everything there till we find a place" she suggested, she was sure Jack will be happy to help them.
"Ok so you can ask Jack, in the meantime we can search for a place from here while we pack everything, send some emails and book our visits to different houses so once we get in Boston we will already have different opportunities to think about. We can stay at my old apartment in the meantime, I still own it but it has just one bedroom so we can't live there once the baby is born, and I bet something will fit into my garage too" he said, they had to fit everything in a really few time because they wanted their new house to be ready before the baby was born.
"Ok. So we just have to wait for the FBI to call us and hope it will be a good news. Unfortunately it would still be too soon for Flynn and Nick to come back to reality and maybe they never will... but we will be closer to them so we can also try to visit them" this idea actually made her so happy, she missed her son more than everything.
"How do you feel staying away from him? I mean I miss our baby when you're at work, away from me and she is not even born yet. But I feel like she is always with us in these moments and knowing you actually have a son that is born and it's far away from you... I don't know how you even do that" he admitted.
He actually couldn't wait for their baby girl to be born but at the same time he was so scared that he would miss her so much during the day. Knowing that she would be at home and he would be at work destroyed him, even if they actually were in the same city. He literally didn't understand how Emily could do that.
"It's hard. Harder than I thought actually, and my expectations were low. I'm happy whenever I can hear from him, but I just can't wait to see him in person... and the feeling of missing your baby will never disappear Cal, I'm sorry to tell you that" she chuckled, she really couldn't wait, both to see her son again and meet their baby girl.
"Talking about our daughter... we still have to pick up a name Em, I don't want to decide it while you're in labor or when you're holding her for the first time. I wanna be prepared" he chuckled.
"You're right, we should make a list now. We had already some names in mind but we should consider creating a list, so we can always take a look at them and maybe delate the ones we don't like" she suggested, her hand laying casually on her belly.
"Ok so if I remember correctly we thought about Madison, Sophie and Jane" he said, thinking about it and reaching for his phone to write them in the notes.
They had started to pick out baby names a month before but nothing too serious, it was just a normal conversation about names they liked one morning at breakfast but they decided to postpone it due to their lack of time.
"I also had Andrea in my mind, do you like it?" she questioned.
"It's cool, I like it, I'm gonna add it" his fingers tapped quickly on the screen before turning back to her.
"I was also thinking about Grace, or Alison" he said, waiting for her answer, which didn't came.
She was frozen, her eyes wide and looking in front of her. Her breath stuck. Her eyes looked around confused and he could feel her heartbeat fasten on his chest.
"Emily?" he tried to call her.
"Say it again" she said quickly and out of breath.
"Say what?" he asked confused.
"The name" she pointed out.
"Which name? Grace?" he questioned and she shook her head.
"Alison?" he asked again and she froze another time.
"Alison" she repeated again.
He looked at her confused, what was she trying to tell him?
"This is crazy" she stated.
"What's crazy? Em I'm not following you" he furrowed his eyebrows, not really following her.
"I don't know if you can feel it but..." she took his hand and gently laid it on her belly.
"Grace... Sophie... Jane..." she started to say names out loud and in that moment he actually thought she had gone crazy. What the hell was she doing?
"Alison" she said and it was in that moment that he felt it.
There was some kind of light movement as the name left her mouth, a movement that didn't happen with the previous ones and something he had never felt before.
"What's that?" he asked, totally aware that he could feel it in a different way from her.
"I think it's a little kick" she smiled up at him.
He smiled back, his hand slowly caressing her belly. Their baby was actually moving, she was there, she could hear them.
"So do you like it? You like Alison?" Cal asked, looking at Emily's belly and he felt another light kick underneath his hand.
He smiled again, turning to face Emily, swiping his thumb on her skin.
"What do you think?" he asked.
"I think it's perfect" she kissed his lips softly and he smiled widely into the kiss, making it impossible for her to continue to kiss him.
"What?" she chuckled, running a hand through his hair.
"I can't wait. Honestly I can't wait to meet her" he admitted.
"Me too" she smiled back at him.
"I just have this feeling I've never felt before. I want her to be here, I want to have her in my arms, I want so many things and she is not even born yet, how's that even possible?" he asked.
"It's normal. It's love. You're gonna be such an amazing dad Cal" she said, looking at him and running her fingers through his beard.
She was so in love with him and seeing how much he couldn't wait to meet their baby girl made her love him even more. He smiled again, he really hoped she was right. He gently cupped her cheek, laying his lips on hers and kissing her softly. Her arms hooked around his neck and her legs straddled him, opening her mouth to allow his tongue to dance with hers.
What followed was a long and slow lovemaking session on the couch, followed by a relaxing shower together. They knew those alone moments were about to end and that it would take them years to have them back, they had to wait either for someone to look after Alison or that she will start school.
They cuddled in bed, it was definitely more comfortable than the couch. Her head was on his chest, her eyes closed and he had one arm wrapped around her.
"We should go to Disneyland" Cal suggested, making her open her eyes in confusion.
"Why?" she asked.
"I bet she will like it" he explained.
"Cal she is not even born yet" she pointed out.
"I know, I was thinking about maybe going for her sixth birthday. I bet she would love it! Every kid loves Disneyland" he explained.
"Cal you're really thinking about this now? We will see when the time will come. And trust me, once she will be born you wouldn't be that happy that time will fly" she pointed out chuckling.
"What do you mean?" he asked confused.
"Time flies Cal. It does. One day you're holding your baby in your arms and the next one they will ask you to spend an entire summer in another city" she said, drawing random patterns with her fingers on his chest.
"So you have a few time before they leave you" he said sadly.
"She will never leave us Cal, she will always be our baby and we will always be there for her. She will just grow up, she will feel the need to do her own experiences and we will support her. If we will do a good job she will never leave us. It's not like me and you don't see our parents anymore" she explained.
"How do I know if I'm making a good work as a parent?" he asked her, he was so nervous about it.
"Time will tell. Like I have already told you, no one knows how to be a good parent. You just have to do what you think it's right for your baby and listen to them a lot" at least that's what she learned with her experience with Flynn in the few years she was there for him.
She was scared too. She missed 6 years of her son's life, those years were actually the most important ones for his growth so she didn't have any kind of experience with it.
"Ok, I hope everything will be fine" he breathed out, gentry caressed her hair.
"It will be, I'm pretty confident about it" she smiled up at him, she really believed it.
At this point they had everything planned, they just had to wait for the FBI call. They had a name that the three of them liked. They had a house there with everything they needed to live their life at its best. They had a plan if they had to come back to Boston, which was actually the best choice, staying there would have meant giving their daughter a fake surname and change it once they got back to Boston, which would have been a mess.
It was in that moment that it hit him, their daughter would have had his last name. Alison Isaac, it fitted in his opinion but...
"Do you want her to have your last name?" he asked.
He didn't want Emily to feel like their daughter had to have his last name only, a lot of babies had a double surname, plus they had been together for a few and she was the one carrying the baby.
"What's wrong with your last name? Don't you like it?" she asked confused.
"No I mean, I just wanted to be sure it was ok for you" he stated.
"It is Cal, I like how it sounds, there's no need to give her two last names" she smiled at him.
"Are you sure?" he asked.
It wasn't something that they could change that easily so he really wanted to be sure.
"I am" she smiled, giving him a small kiss before laying her head on his chest again.
Having a person with his same last name in their little family was making him feel so good, it was heartwarming. Now two out of three people in their small family had the same last name... he just had to work on the third one now.
