Chin and Kono were not entirely sure what was going on but they knew that something must have happened if Danny and Steve were not together and asking them to check on the other. Chin could only hope that Steve would be back in his own house. After splitting with Kono at the headquarters, he headed for the store to grab some drinks as he guessed that Steve would need it. Reaching Steve's house, he saw Steve's Silverado parked in the driveway but he found the house in darkness, making him doubt that Steve was actually home. he knocked on the door a few times but it went unanswered. He tried the knob and was not surprised when it was unlocked.

"Steve?" Chin called out. "Steve, you in here?" He said, switching on the lights as he entered the house. He scanned the surroundings, but it looked like there was no one in. He glanced towards the Lanai and spotted a figure seated in the chair outside. He opened the glass doors and headed out, the beer in tow.

"Hey!" Chin called out as he approached Steve.

Steve turned around abruptly, not having heard anyone enter his house or approaching him. "Chin.."

"I could have robbed your house and left and you wouldn't have known." Chin joked, as he placed the beer on the table and sat next to Steve.

Steve didn't answer, looking away into the ocean.

Chin tensed up slightly, seeing the grim expression on Steve's face. "You alright?"

"Danny sent you?" Steve asked.

"What.. no, no he didn't." Chin said.

"You need to work on that poker face." Steve said. "Well then what are you doing here? You would find me at Danny's place, not here."

"Fine... He sent me just like you sent Kono to him." Chin said, giving up. "So what is really going on with you two?"

Steve picked up a bottle of beer and took a huge gulp. "I don't know. I have no idea what's going on."

"You guys fought?"

"Yeah.. Maybe? I don't know what I did.. He's leaving."

"What do you mean leaving? Where.."

"Jersey." Steve said, taking another mouthful of drink, practically emptying the bottle.

"Woah brah, slow down a little bit." Chin said. "Danny's going back to Jersey? Why?"

"I wish I knew. He just told me he's got everything sorted and he's leaving in 2 days."

"Okay.." Chin said. "So you two fought about this?"

"I wanted to go with him but he exploded. He told me to leave. I don't understand, Chin. Is it wrong that I want to be there for him? I want to be responsible for him? I caused this. I need to make it right."

"Steve, I get it. You still feel guilty about what happened. But Danny doesn't blame you. And maybe all he needs is to spend time with his family. We should give him some space."

"I don't know.. Maybe he does blame me. That's why he told me to leave."

...

"Hey, Danny!" Kono tried to sound cheerful as she stood at the door. She bent down to give her colleague a hug.

"Hey," Danny said, returning the hug. "Come on in."

"Let me help you." Kono said, her hands automatically going towards, Danny's wheelchair.

"So let me guess.. Steve sent you?"

Koon smiled. "You know, the two of you are more alike than you like to think."

"Me and that neanderthal? Are you kidding?" Danny said, eliciting a chuckle from Kono. "Is Chin with him?"

"Yeah, he texted me earlier. They're both at Steve's." Kono said. "He's okay."

"Good, that's good." Danny said.

Turning serious, Kono said, "Chin also told me you are leaving for Jersey in 2 days."

"That's correct." Danny said, nodding. Kono bit her lip, she had to tread carefully if she was to get Danny to talk. The decision to leave was sudden to say the least, Danny hadn't mentioned it to any of them.

"Okay, just say whatever's on your mind." Danny said.

"Why are you leaving?" Kono asked.

"Short answer.. I miss home." Danny said.

"Long answer?" Kono probed.

Danny shrugged his shoulders. Long answer was he didn't want to be a burden to Steve. That was what he had felt like in the past few weeks with Steve staying in his house.

Danny took a deep breath in. "I.. Uh I've been thinking a lot and I need to spend some time away you know? Away from Steve. Alone."

"Danny? Can I ask you a question?" Kono said.

"Hmm." Danny said.

"Are you.. umm I mean, is there a small part of you that blames this on Steve? Are you mad at him?" Kono asked.

Danny flinched at the question. He looked straight into Kono's eyes. "You think that's why I'm leaving?" Danny asked.

"Is it not?"

"No. Of course not. I don't blame this on him. Not the slightest. I would have done what I did for any of you guys, Chin, Lou, you. Well.. if this happened because Steve didn't want to wait for backup then yeah, I would blame it on him. But this wasn't his fault. So no. Not a tiny part of me blames it on him."

"So.. your leaving is not about Steve at all?"

"Babe, you really think I'm leaving cos I'm mad at him?" Danny asked. "If I were really mad at him, I'm never leaving. He waits on me hand and feet. I don't have to do a single thing. I am that petty."

Kono smiled. "I'm sure you would do that."

"Like I said, I'm going back because I miss my family, alright? But also because, me being here is doing no good for Steve. I need time away from him as much as he needs time away from me." Danny said. "How many times did he go into the office last week?"

"Uhh..two?" Kono recalled.

"Exactly. It's a matter of time before he's fired from Five-0"

"You know that's not gonna happen."

"Whatever.. but you get what I'm saying, right? He is neglecting everything else. Even himself. And I know it's because of his misplaced guilt. As long as I'm here, he isn't going to change. And I need to be more independent too. I don't know how long I will be stuck on this thing and I can't keep relying on Steve for everything. I've tried telling him the nice way but he never listens. So I've got no choice but to do it behind his back."

"He's never gonna live that down, you know." Kono said.

"Well.." Danny said. "Kono, do me a favour alright?"

"Uhuh?"

"Don't let him go crazy while I'm away. I mean he's already halfway there but just keep him in check a little bit and stop him if he's doing something irrationally stupid."

"Haha, Danny" Kono let out a laugh. "Sorry can't promise you that."

Danny shook his head. "At least just try to stay safe, alright?"

"That, we will. You stay safe too, brah. Get better quick and come home alright?" Kono said as she stood up and bent over to hug him again.

"Home? Not sure about this place, but I'll definitely miss you."

"Not as much as you'd miss Steve." Kono teased.

"Yeah sure." Danny rolled his eyes.
