Journey Into Imagination The Movie chapter 7

Author's note: Thanks for reading this if you've made it this far. I hope you enjoyed this story and happy holidays to you. Also the 2 verses from "One Little Spark" quoted below are deleted verses found on the Disney wiki page for the song.

Doubt screamed in pain as he felt his control over the cleaning staff and others slipping after they had been shown the kids' video by Kendrick. "This can't be happening!"

This gave Dr. Channing the opportunity to shut the evil being's machine off and step back so that Figment's clones could breathe fire on it to melt it down. This set off the smoke alarms for the Imagination Institute and the sprinklers came on as the monsters from the Bewilderness disappeared including the ones that had been about to attack the 4 oldest Smith kids.

Keith unlocked the doors to Dr. Channing's car and then he and his siblings got out to see Dreamfinder, about to fight the monsters, standing there and looking in amazement. "Well, Figment's done it. I knew he could and I am so proud of him."

"What now?" Kenneth asked, getting Dreamfinder's attention.

Before Dreamfinder could answer Doubt could be heard shouting "No, this is impossible! You can't overcome me!"

"Oh yes we can. In stories like this one, good triumphs over evil and of that, no one has any doubt." Dreamfinder created a portal to the Bewilderness and Doubt was sucked into it, screaming "NOOOO!" the entire time until disappearing. The portal then closed behind it.

"Is it gone for good?" Kyle asked.

"Doubt is imprisoned in the Bewilderness and won't be getting out for a very long time." Dreamfinder assured them.

Dr. Channing and Figment, the latter having made his clones disappear and having on his normal outfit, both came outside.

"Thank goodness you are all right and not just because I have enough to deal with when it comes to what to say to the public." Dr. Channing said, sighing with relief.

Kendrick had untied the cleaning staff and they had all also come over as one of them called 911 to make sure that the fire that had been used to melt Doubt's machine was in fact out entirely. Kendrick then hugged his four oldest children tightly. "Thank you for that message, kids. I think that was what was needed to keep me from falling under the spell of that monster again."

"You're welcome. Dr. Channing did say we could use his phone but didn't say not to use a specific app." Kayla replied.

"It's a good thing too." Figment said. He hugged Dreamfinder tightly. "I'm so glad we're all okay.

"I can say the same thing. Now I have to get Geraldine, Kendra, and Kelsey." Dreamfinder disappeared briefly, reappearing outside his home in the Dream Port. He knocked on the door.

Kendra and Kelsey had already gotten up and were in the living room with their mother. Geraldine immediately got up and unlocked the door from the inside and smiled when she saw it was Dreamfinder. "Is everyone all right? Is Doubt defeated?"

"The answer to both questions is yes." Dreamfinder assured her.

Geraldine grabbed Kelsey's diaper bag and put it over one shoulder before picking up her youngest daughter.

"Home?" Kelsey asked.

"That's right; we're going home." Kendra said as she made sure she had Sandy. The tan teddy bear was tucked under one arm as she grabbed Dreamfinder's left hand. Geraldine grabbed the red-haired dream collector's right hand and all them held onto each other before suddenly appearing at the Imagination Institute.

Kendrick, Keith, Kenneth, Kyle, and Kayla all ran over and immediately hugged Kendra, Kelsey, and Geraldine.

"I'm so glad this whole situation has been resolved in the best way possible." Geraldine said.

"Same here. I think I may have to get counseling after dealing with all of this." Kendrick admitted.

"There's no shame in that, honey." His wife assured him.

The moment was interrupted by Figment going over to Dreamfinder and news crews appearing on the scene along with firefighters.

"Well, do you think we should reveal ourselves to everyone now and answer the reporters' questions?" Figment asked. "I mean, some people don't believe we're real. They think that we're just an urban legend."

"We can but it's up to those individuals whether they change their minds about their beliefs." Dreamfinder replied. He would certainly answer whatever questions the reporters had to the best of his ability.

Reporters had begun asking questions to Dreamfinder and Dr. Channing as well as Kendrick about what had just happened and they were answering the questions to the best of their abilities. While there was some disappointment that Figment's origin had been lied about when it came to how he had gotten to the Imagination Institute, it seemed that they understood why that had been done to begin with. How the general public would react was another story. Once the impromptu interviews were over, Figment sighed with relief.

"I'm glad that we don't have to do a more formal interview until later this week like Dreamfinder agreed to do." Figment said. He then added to Kendrick. "I teleported your van back home while Dreamfinder was getting Mrs. Smith, Kendra, and Kelsey."

"Thank you, Figment; I was worried it was still in the middle of the road and would have to be towed away." Kendrick replied, feeling relieved that the purple dragon had thought to do that.

"Wait, since this whole thing is resolved, you guys have to leave now, right?" Kendra asked sadly.

'Yeah, they do. I'm going to miss them." Keith answered, just as sad as his second youngest sister.

Kendra started crying. Kelsey, Kayla, and Kyle began crying as well.

"We only knew Figment for two days and we want to be friends with him and Dreamfinder." Kenneth added. He, his parents, and his twin weren't sobbing but were still sad nonetheless.

"We're going to miss you too." Figment said as Dreamfinder handed each of them handkerchiefs.

"Will we ever get to see you again?" Kayla asked after drying her tears, her siblings doing the same thing.

"You can always see Figment and I in your dreams." Dreamfinder assured them.

"Even when daydreaming?" Kyle asked.

"Even when daydreaming." Dreamfinder confirmed.

"You know, we could also talk via video calls if I get my own tablet." Figment suggested.

"That would be a great idea. Long distance friendships can be just as meaningful as friendships between those who live close to each other." Kendrick agreed.

"I think that will work for us just fine." Dreamfinder added. "Before I forget to mention this, I was the one doing your yard work."

"You were Dean? Why didn't you tell us that before?" Geraldine asked.

"Would you have believed me?" He asked. He already knew the answer but wanted to hear it from her.

"No." She admitted, realizing that he had a good point. "Still if you do need any help, don't hesitate to call Kendrick or I or text us since you already have our cell phone numbers."

"I'll keep that in mind. Figment and I will visit in person as soon as we're able to." Dreamfinder said.

"Can we give you a hug before you go?" Keith asked.

"Sure. Group hug!" Figment shouted.

The Smith family all hugged Dreamfinder and Figment in a group hug and then ended it before they all bid each other farewell, knowing that even though things were still not completely all right in the world, they would still handle them to the best of their ability.

Dreamfinder and Figment got onto the Dreamcatcher ship and took off, leaving Earth behind and feeling ready to just spend some time together on their own.

"Where should we go after we spend some time at home, Dreamfinder?" Figment asked.

"Wherever our imagination takes us." Dreamfinder answered.

"I knew you would say that." The purple dragon smiled and then he and Dreamfinder began singing 2 verses and a chorus of "One Little Spark.

One little spark, one flight of fancy

Shines up the dark so that we can see

And when it seems that nothing's going right

One little spark clicks on the light

One bright idea, one right connection

Can give our lives a new direction

So many times, we're stumbling in the dark

And then eureka! That little spark

Imagination, Imagination

A dream can be a dream come true

With just that spark in me and you

Figment moved from his seat onto Dreamfinder's lap. "I love that song and I love you, Dad." It was rare for him to actually address his creator as his father even though a parent and child relationship was what their relationship was.

"I love you too, Figment. We will always be together no matter what even if it's only in spirit." Dreamfinder replied.

"The Smith family will be with us in spirit too, right?" The purple dragon asked.

"Yes they will." Dreamfinder wrapped his left arm around his dragon son to hold him while piloting the Dreamcatcher using his right hand. Whatever they faced next, they would handle it together and it helped that the Smith kids would likely talk to them close to the end of the week.

Epilogue

On Friday night at 7:00 p.m., Figment and Dreamfinder were back in the Dream Port and had turned on a tablet to call the Smith family via Zoom. They had done a more formal in-depth interview earlier today and Dreamfinder had terminated "Dean's" lease on the rental house he had been in during his almost 2 months stay on Earth. Then the duo had found a website containing stories of people who had been helped by them, the one that Geraldine had submitted her story to. Dreamfinder hadn't been able to help but smile at the fact that many of those he and Figment had helped had decided to follow their dreams and make them come true.

The call was answered by Geraldine using her tablet and all the kids said "Hi Figment! Hi Dreamfinder!" They were all either on or around the couch in their living room save for Kendrick, who was outside.

"Hello there." Dreamfinder replied. "How have you been?"

"We're been great. Since it's warm enough tonight, Dad's setting up a tent in the backyard so we can pretend to go camping since we won't likely be able to get to a campground this year." Keith said.

"That sounds great!" Figment said excitedly. "Dreamfinder, can we go camping soon?"

"We certainly can have our own campout, Figment." Dreamfinder assured him.

"The Imagination Institute will be able to reopen next week and Dr. Channing will be using a different lab until his is completely repaired." Geraldine continued. "The kids will continue being homeschooled for now since I want to protect their health and mine and Kendrick's health."

"That is understandable and I hope the children remember to never stop learning since the classroom can only teach so much." Dreamfinder said.

Each of the siblings took a turn to talk about something, oldest to youngest. When it was her turn, Kelsey waved and said "Car beep, beep."

"You like cars?" Figment asked.

"Cars!" Kelsey giggled after saying this and Kyle brought over some of her toys so that she could show them off to Figment.

Dreamfinder couldn't help but chuckle at this and smile. He pretty much knew what she was going to be dreaming about after she went to bed tonight. "Those are lovely cars, Kelsey. Are they fast?"

"Fast!" The toddler repeated and climbed down onto the living room floor to play with the toy cars.

"She likes to try counting cars whenever we go somewhere." Kayla added. "She can't quite get the numbers in order yet."

"She will be able to do that someday. You can't rush anything since it takes time to get things right." Dreamfinder said.

After a few more minutes, they had to hang up since it was nearly Figment's bedtime. Dreamfinder and Figment bid the Smith kids and Geraldine goodbye before ending the call.

Figment brushed his teeth and changed into his nightshirt before going into his room. Dreamfinder came in after him to read a story.

"What kind of story are you telling tonight?" The purple dragon asked his creator while laying down on the bed.

"I'll surprise you." Dreamfinder replied, smiling. "Once upon a time…"

After the story was over, Figment had fallen asleep on his right side. Dreamfinder made sure the blanket was over the purple dragon completely before leaving the room and going into his study to read more of the stories that had been on that website he had found earlier, the memories of helping all those individuals coming back to him. It was nice to reminisce on the past for a while before he decided to sleep. Of course, Dreamfinder also knew that it was important to remember that only the future could be changed and hopefully good things would be ahead for him and his friends.
