PAUL POV
"Paul! What is wrong with you? Why would you say that horrible and untrue stuff to Y/N?!"
"You know, Kim, your voice is really starting to get annoying. Why don't you mind your business, and I'll mind mine." I spat back while taking a seat again in my chair.
"Just drop it, Kim." Jared pleaded.
"No! Paul, you know what Y/N did was only meant to HELP! I mean, we all knew you can be a jerk, but that was a whole new level, Paul. I don't think I'm so hungry anymore." Kim pushed back from the table, storming off and out the front screen door, with Jared following behind her.
I was having a terrible few weeks. I mean, sure, the kiss with Y/N was everything and more, but the fact of Chelsea having to see, and not being able to break up with her the right way was a lot for me to handle. On top of that, I had found out that Chelsea was actually hanging out with some slime ball at Forks High School during the latter part of our time together, which explains why I rarely saw her, and why she was always cancelling plans. But, I had moved on from her.
I didn't answer any calls or texts from Y/N after that day at the beach, mostly because my shifts increased thanks to Sam, and because I was still upset with her. Even though I told Y/N I was mostly upset about her making me look like a cheating jerk, I was more upset with her for bringing that good for nothing, Chaz, to the beach. I'll admit I was a little harsh during the dinner, but, I'm also not known for handling my anger well.
The rest of dinner was silent, and awkward. I finally had enough and excused myself, shifting while heading outside and toward the woods for time to clear my mind.
READER POV
Well, that was the worst sleep of my life. I could feel a slight headache coming on, and reached for an Advil on my bedside table. It was 8AM, and I had never been up this early on the weekend unless Emily had invited me over for breakfast.
I quickly got dressed and checked my phone to see if Chaz had texted or called-but, nothing. If anything, I could always enjoy my own company before having to come back and get things together in boxes for my big move. I headed downstairs. No one was awake just yet, so I decided to leave a note on the kitchen counter so they wouldn't worry.
I made it to the diner in about 20 minutes. Upon entering, I was surprised to see Chaz was already there, sitting at a table near the counter. I took a deep breath and exhaled before walking up.
"Chaz. I'm so happy you're here." I smiled a genuine smile, and sat down across the table from him.
"Likewise, Y/N. I apologize for not answering your texts and calls. I know you brought me here to apologize, but I'm not upset with you anymore. Truly." He smiled, and a wave of relief and happiness washed over me that at least I was hated by one less person in this small town.
"So," he continued, "tell me about this move.."
PAUL'S POV
I loved Sundays. They were perfect for hanging out with the pack after our shifts, and having a good time. Emily had assigned a few of us to run to the grocery store in town for a few ingredients for a meal she was planning to make. Myself, Jared, and Jake all packed into my Jeep and headed to Forks.
We were grabbing the last few items on our checklist when a sickening, and all to familiar smell filled our nostrils. The three of us looked at each other simultaneously before making our way closer to the smell. It was our job to protect the humans, and we needed to act quickly.
The smell became more intense as we haulted to a stop in the Greeting Card section.
"What the hell are you doing here, Chaz?" I asked as Jared, Jacob and myself made our way closer.
"Vampires aren't allowed to hunt in town." Jacob narrowed his eyes toward Chaz.
"Easy boys. I'm just here to pick up a few things, just like you are. No need to worry about me hunting." He brushed us off as if the conversation was already over, not even looking us in the eyes. But, my wolf senses picked up another familiar smell underneath his terrible vampire smell. It was a combination of Lavendar and Rose. My most favorite smell.
"Y/N?" I questioned Chaz.
"Excuse me?" His eyes finally left the display of cards.
"You were with Y/N! Why? Where is she, you filthy blood sucker?!" Jared held me back as to not create a scene and cause attention in the middle of the aisle.
"Relax, Paul. Man, you've really got to work on your anger. Y/N and I grabbed a cup of coffee earlier this morning, and now I'm picking out a card for her. I assume you'd be doing the same considering you may never see her again-"
I tore away from Jared's effort of holding me far enough away from Chaz, 'What the hell are you talking about? Where is she?" I could feel my anger beginning to surface.
"Oh, you didn't hear? Your imprint is moving back to Texas. You made her decision easier from what she told me. Smooth move, Paul. Smooth move." Chaz went to walk away but I quickly grabbed him by the shoulder to turn him back around toward me.
"You're lying!" I accused.
"It's no concern of mine what you choose to believe, Paul. But, I guess you'll believe me once Tuesday comes. Just don't say I didn't warn you. Now, if you don't mind.." He motioned for me to move my hand from his shoulder and I reluctantly released. He walked away without another word or glance.
I felt numb. Was Chaz lying? Was Y/N really moving? Tuesday? Why so soon?
"Let's go. I need to go see Y/N." Without another thought, we headed straight for the register and checked out, hurrying to my Jeep and speeding back to the reservation.
READER POV
I had spent all day slowly packing up my things into empty boxes, with a little bit of help from my mom. She kept going on and on about how my room back home in Texas was still the same as I had left it and how we could redesign the space to feel more "grown up" if I decided to go to a local college while living at home. It all sounded great, I guess, but I mostly just let her talk.
My talk with Chaz had went even better than I could've imagined this morning, and I was able to get some frustrations off my chest while talking to him about everything that I had went through with Paul the night before. Chaz was a great listener, and he was 100% invested in my troubles, even after I had hurt him so much.
I still hadn't told anyone in the pack about my move, and figured it was best this way. Maybe not for them, but for me. My mom left me alone to finish filling up a few more boxes while she went to get ready for bed.
*knock knock*
"Come in." I spoke, almost in a whisper from my voice trying to recover after not having talked in a bit.
"Hey Y/N, looks like you're almost ready to go." My grandpa looked around the room at all the filled boxes stacked on top of one another and scattered around the room.
"Yeah, I guess so. I really love La Push, grandpa. And, I don't want to leave, but…" my voice started to trail off as memories of hanging out with the pack and our frequent beach days played throughout my mind.
"Then don't leave, Y/N. Your grandmother and I love having you here, and I know that young shapeshifting fellow, Paul, does too."
My eyes quickly shifted over, meeting my grandpa's eyes. How did he know about Paul?I had never mentioned him before, and I always used the excuse of hanging out with Kim and Emily whenever I would leave the house.
"Grandpa, how did you-"
"I know about everything, Y/N. The wolves, the vampires, and the fact that you're an imprint to Paul." He smiled as I stared in total shock.
"But how? Are you, ya know, a-"
"Yep. Sure am."
"And is grandma your imprint?"
"She is." I was in total disbelief at this new information.
I sighed and dropped my head back down to the floor. "He doesn't want me as his imprint, grandpa. I did something so awful, and now he won't forgive me. That's why I have to leave. I mean, I thought I was helping, but turns out I was just making everything worse. And, my parents seem so happy at my decision to come back with them, I can't hurt them too." I was officially defeated from the back and forth decisions that were going on the past few days. I had surrendered to the idea of leaving La Push, the pack, Chaz, and Paul.
"Well, Y/N, it looks like you've got a lot of thinking to do. But, there is someone here who's wanting to say goodbye." My grandpa took a step to the left to clear the doorway as the one and only, Paul Lahote, turned the corner into my room. My breathing was stopped short in my throat as I felt the space of the room closing in on me. Part of me wanted to jump in to Paul's arms while the other wanted to slap his face. But instead, I did nothing but stare as he cautiously made his way further into my room.
"I'll leave you two to talk. Don't be long now, Paul. It's getting late." Paul nodded and regained his attention back to me. We both just stood in silence for a minute, with neither of us knowing what to say or who should talk first.
"Look, Y/N, I-" he began
"No, Paul. You listen-I'm moving back to Texas. I know I've made your life miserable ever since becoming your imprint, and I'm sorry, okay? I never meant for any of this to happen, and I would've been just fine with being the new girl that no one paid attention to. But, I guess nothing is that easy. And the only reason I didn't tell anyone about me moving is because it hurts to leave my newfound family. And, believe it or not, Paul,..even after everything…..it hurts to leave you too. You may not have felt as strongly about me, but everything I ever did was because-"
"I love you, Y/N." His gaze met mine as his eyes became glossy from the tears.
"Wha-" He moved closer as I tried to make sure that I had heard him correctly in what he said.
"I said, I love you, Y/N. I have loved you since the day you came into my life, and I just didn't want to admit it. I wanted so badly to believe that having an imprint was the worst thing that could ever happen to a wolf, but in reality, I had never been happier. And, if you leave, I'm afraid, and I know I'll never feel that again. I'm a jealous wreck when I see you with Chaz, and that's why I've been so upset. You know more about me than anyone else, and I want to continue learning about you…about…us."
"Why didn't you tell me all this before, Paul? Why did get so angry at dinner?"
He shrugged. "I don't have a good reason, Y/N. All I know is that every time I would imagine you with that filthy bloo-, I mean, brownnoser, I just got more angry. I should've just been honest with you. I'm so sorry I hurt you. If you're willing to forgive me, I'd like to start over.."
I could see the flood of emotions on Paul's face as he tried to hide them from me.
Of course I would give him another chance.
This is what I had waited on for so long, and I wasn't about to let this hot-headed wolf get away. I made my way closer to Paul before cupping his face in my hands-
"How about we start right here." Our lips met and the warm and perfect feeling was back and just how I had remembered it from the day at the beach. Except, this was more special. Paul pulled me in toward him as close as he could and I gave in to the loving embrace of Paul Lahote.
PAUL'S POV
Y/N's parents took the decision of wanting to stay back in La Push a little hard, but they understood and didn't fight her choice. I was happy to have my imprint back, and I vowed to myself and Y/N to never push her away again.
It had only been a few months since they had left back to Texas, and by now, everyone in town had found out about Y/N and I. She started sitting with me and the pack at lunch, and I could feel Chaz staring in envy of what Y/N and I had.
The only reason why Chaz hadn't been torn to pieces already by myself or the pack is because Sam ordered no harm be done to the soulless leach since he was like the other vampires in town, the Cullen's, and only hunted animals. He hid his identity well—wearing contacts and avoiding sunny days in La Push, which were rare. But, I still kept my eyes on him, especially around Y/N.
TIME SKIP
Graduation had come and gone, which meant I could spend more time with Y/N when I wasn't out on my shifts.
Jake's crush, Bella, had invited the entire pack over to the Cullen's house for a huge graduation party that night, and Y/N was begging to go.
"Fine," I gave in, "We can go, Y/N."
"Yes!" She squealed. "I'm going to go get ready! Please don't wear those jorts, babe." She kissed my cheek and rushed off to her place to get ready.
The things I do for love.
Embry, Jake, Quill, Y/N and myself, arrived to the party, and it was packed. Great. The smell of the vampires was almost too strong to stomach, but I fought through it for Y/N and for Jake's stupid crush on the vampire girl, Bella Swan.
I have to say that the house was beautiful inside and nothing at all like what I had imagined a bloodsucker to live in. We all walked up the stairs leading to the 2ndfloor where the party was taking place, keeping our eyes open for any suspicious activity.
Jake made his way over to Bella to give her a gift, and Y/N and I stayed back with Embry and Quill as we watched people dance and picked at the snacks.
"Alice, what's wrong? What did you see?" We all turned to look at Bella, who was standing infront of Alice on the stairs away from where her and Jake once stood.
"The decision has been made.." Alice said in a panic.
"They're not going to Seattle..?" Bella asked.
"No. They're coming here." Alice exclaimed.
"Where's Carlisle?" Bella asked, looking around frantically.
"In his office. Let's go." Alice motioned. Jake, Embry and Quill followed after Alice and Bella up the stairs.
"Y/N, I need to go find out what's going on. Will you be okay here for a few minutes?"
"I'll be fine..is everything okay?" I could tell she was worried.
"Everything's fine. I'll fill you in on everything once I come back." I kissed her gently and reassuringly on the forehead before trailing behind the rest of the group upstairs.
READER POV
I waited for Paul for what felt like forever. What was going on?
I didn't recognize anyone at the party, and decided that staying put would be the safest bet.
"Y/N. I didn't think I'd see you here at the Cullen's." It was Chaz. "How do you know them?" He asked. He looked handsome in his white button down shirt and black dress pants. My comfort level began to adjust now that I knew at least one other person here while Paul was busy. I knew Paul didn't really like Chaz, but he tolerated him for my sake, and I appreciated him for that.
"I don't necessarily know them, but Jake has a big crush on Bella, and she invited us all here. What's your relation?" I questioned.
"Oh, just a..very old friend, I guess you could say. So, where's Paul and the rest of his gang?"
"Chaz, haven't we already been through this? They're not a gang. And, they went to go help Bella out with something. They should be back soon. Why? Are you and Paul ready to kiss and make up?" I laughed, knowing that would probably never happen.
"I guess Paul hasn't told you that we're kind of sworn enemies. Paul's kind and my kind don't really get along. I'm sure you've heard the stories…" his mischievous grin left me confused. Did he know about the pack this entire time? And what did he mean by sworn enemies? The packs only enemies were….vampires, but…he couldn't be.
Paul had described what vampires looked like to me before. Some had red eyes and others had yellow depending on if they hunted humans or animals. But Chaz's eyes were a deep brown.
"Judging by the look in your eyes, Y/N, it looks like you may have heard a tale or two." Chaz continued. I started to get nervous at his dancing around the topic.. "No need to afraid, Y/N. I'm one of the good guys." I couldn't help the uneasy feeling that Chaz's admission gave me. All this time I had known him, it all made sense now as to why Paul and him could never get along.
Chaz was a vampire.
Had it not been for the familiar silhouette of Paul and the rest of the pack hurrying down the stairs, I probably would've fainted from the overwhelming tension.
I could see the two glaring at each other, and I immediately rushed over to Paul as he continued to stare down Chaz.
"It was nice seeing you Y/N. Boys." Chaz nodded before heading back into the crowd of people.
Paul wrapped one of his arms around me, leading me back downstairs toward his Jeep.
"Come on Y/N, let's get you home."
