I intend for this story to go through all three of the sequel films, though I will NOT be writing every scene from every movie. I don't own STAR WARS. I will be including their friends, of course, but this story is focused on Poe Dameron and his sister. In TFA, after Rey, Finn, and BB-8 escape Jakku, I won't be writing much about them til Poe helps save them on Takodona.
Will Tania be able to escape the First Order? Will Kylo Ren torture her? Will he take some mercy, and maybe protect her? Or will he be the same monster the galaxy knows him to be?
Hope this story isn't cringey. Reviews would be helpful!
Rey shoved the scrap metal toward Unkar Plutt, hoping for once he would be reasonable, though she highly doubted it. Unkar Plutt grunted, squinting contemptuously at his source of wealth. "I'll give you one quarter portion, for the pair." He said.
"Last week they were half a portion each." Rey reminded him.
"That was last week." Unkar Plutt said dismissively. Then his beady eyes became slits. "As for the droid..."
Rey frowned, surprised. "What about him?" She asked.
"I'll pay for him." Unkar Plutt announced. "Sixty portions!" He announced grandly, dumping heaps of food on the counter, more food than Rey had ever seen at one time in her entire life!
Her stomach rumbled painfully. Her mouth watered, and her eyes had grown twice the normal size. She leaned on the counter, and protectively hugged the food, all this food for her while the other customers eyed it painstakingly.
Rey was blown away. She would not go hungry for months! This was her chance! Her chance to turn her life around. But she heard a small moan, and glanced down at the forlorn droid. BB-8 stared at her disheartened. If she didn't know better, she'd say the robot looked betrayed.
I'm sorry, BB-8. But you don't know how difficult it is to come by a decent meal here, she thought. Then her stomach twisted. It was hard to come by a decent meal on Jakku. Unkar Plutt knew that, everyone did. Why was he suddenly being so generous? He never was! Unkar was never reasonable.
And, BB-8 said his mission was important to the safety of the galaxy. Swallowing hard, Rey backed away from the food she longed for. "Actually, the droid's not for sale." She said lowly, and walked away. She did, however, sneak away three portions of food. BB-8 rolled beside her with relieved chirps.
Poor Finn ran from person to person, begging for water. But they all shooed him away. He saw an enormous happabore drinking from the village trough. Water! Only a few yards away from him, precious water! Finn dove for it and zealously filled fistfuls of the blessed liquid into his parched mouth.
UGH! He instantly spat it out. That was the most disgusting thing he'd ever put in his mouth!
Rey had taken BB-8 to the other end of the village, hoping to avoid Unkar's greedy eyes. She was telling BB-8 about another trader in the village who might be able to help him when two of Unkar Plutt's thugs approached her and the droid. "We take droid." One of them said.
"What?" Rey glared, clenching her fists.
"You steal droid."
"I didn't steal him! He isn't for sale. Move along." Rey growled.
"Unkar Plutt say you steal. We take droid back to Unkar Plutt."
"See here…" Rey hissed, then she looked beside her and saw the other henchmen covering a quivering BB-8 with a blanket. Oui! Get off him!" Rey hollered, kicking the bum in the face. The other grabbed her from behind. She angrily bit his hand and he yelped.
Finn was loathed to drink that Force-forsaken excuse for water, but he was sooo thirsty. The happabore did not appreciate being crowded, even though it was the size of a small hut. It shoved Finn aside onto the ground. Finn was about to protest when he heard a commotion in the square.
He saw a young woman being assailed by two larger, stronger robed figures. One of them slapped the girl. Finn glowered and jumped to his feet. "Hey!" He shouted.
Rey whipped her staff at the first thug's head but the other grabbed her arms. She kicked the first one, then using her staff as leverage, whirled around and beat the other mug across the skull til he fell down and stayed there.
Finn halted abruptly, eyes wide at what he had just witnessed. He was quite impressed. This girl was small, and dirt poor-literally-but she was a fighter! She obviously didn't need his protection, well not while dealing with Jakku junkers. Now coming up against stormtrooper blasters? Well, who knew?
Rey lifted the cover off of BB-8, who was wiggling happily in relief. "Are you okay?" Rey asked. "Good. Oh, I wasn't about to let that happen!"
Finn's jaw dropped. Could that be-it was definitely a bee-bee unit droid, with orange and white colors, just like Poe had described! Finn stepped closer, dumbfounded. Was that his new, and very dead friend's robot?
BB-8 squealed loudly, and Rey looked directly at Finn hiding in the shadows. "Him?" Rey spoke, sounding angry. Finn stared at her. Rey rose to her feet, clenching her teeth and charged at him with her staff.
Finn stumbled back and ran for his life, knocking over tables and skewering traders' products on the ground. Then something very, very hard mercilessly bopped him in the shoulder. He went down, biting his tongue and wincing painfully. "What the heck?" He panted.
"What's your hurry, thief?" Rey snapped down at him, her staff raised above his head, ready for another blow if he tried to escape.
"Thief?!" Finn sputtered in disbelief. He had just gotten away from the First Order, trying to go straight, and the first person he meets calls him a criminal! And not because of the uniform either.
BB-8 tased him in the leg. "Oww!" Finn cried. "Hey, what?"
"The jacket. This droid says you stole it!" Rey accused icily.
Finn glared up at her. "I've had a pretty messed up day, alright?" He huffed. "So, I'd appreciate it if you'd stop accusing me-oww!" That little rotund sucker had just zapped him again! "Stop it!" Finn demanded.
"Where'd you get it? It belongs to his master."
Finn's entire countenance slackened. "It belongs to Poe Dameron. That was his name, right? He was captured, by the First Order. I helped him escape, but our ship crashed. Poe didn't make it." He said sadly.
"Ohhh." BB-8 moaned, hanging his head.
"I tried to help him. I'm sorry." Finn said fervently. BB-8 didn't look at him and sadly rolled away. His master, his best friend, Poe was gone! The little droid felt more alone than he ever had. And what of Tania? She hadn't come back for him either! Was she…dead too? She had to be, after the First Order shot down her X-wing. BB-8 shuddered with little beeping sobs. Both his master and mistress were gone. Forever! He had nobody, except this new girl Rey and her flailing friend.
"So, you're with the Resistance." Rey remarked, eyeing Finn thoughtfully. His eyes widened with hope.
"Obviously." He agreed, standing up. "Yes, I am. I'm with the Resistance, yeah. I am with the Resistance."
Rey smiled warmly at him with admiration. "I've never met a Resistance fighter before."
"Well, this is what we look like. Some of us. Others are different." Finn shrugged.
"BB-8 says that he's on a secret mission. He has to get back to your base."
"Apparently, he has a map to Luke Skywalker, and everyone's after it." Finn explained.
Rey gaped at him. "Luke Skywalker?" She repeated, her voice filled with complete awe. "I thought he was a myth." Just at that moment, BB-8 blipped at her anxiously.
Leia did not like the feeling she had in the pit of her stomach. They were anxiously awaiting any news from Tania, but she had not contacted them like she'd promised. Leia closed her eyes, hanging her head.
"General! He's back! Captain Dameron is back!" One of the fighters announced. Leia's head shot up and she hurried along to greet her surrogate son and protege.
Leia smiled as she saw the bloodied but tall and vigorous pilot marching tiredly through the halls, greeting his comrades. "Poe!" Leia breathed with joy. Poe saw her and raced to her side.
"General! Sorry, I took so long. Had some trouble." He said breathlessly.
"We heard." Then Leia's heart sank. Poe was here, alive! But that meant that...Tania was not! "Poe..." She began.
"Got captured, but a stormtrooper got me out. We were escaping when our fighter was hit..."
"Poe..."
"I wandered around, til a Blarina lit found me. We bartered and after I got us out of a run-in with the Strus clan-don't ask!-, Naka agreed to work with another fella who helped me get off of Jakku."
"Poe..."
"Anyway, I have to get back! Have you received any communications from BB-8?"
"He isn't with you?"
"No. I told him to escape."
"Not yet. We're standing by."
"Well, if the First Order had caught him, they would've obliterated us by now. Listen, I have to get back to Jakku. Tania's ship was shot down. I have to go make sure she's okay."
"Poe, slow down! We received a message from Tania. She said you had been captured by the First Order, and that you had the map."
"The map? No! I, I gave it to BB-8 and told him to get away from Tuanul. I don't have it! I thought I told her. Where is Tania? I need to see her, make sure she's ok..."
"Poe." Leia touched his arm. "She thought you still had the map on you! She said she was going after you, to get you away from Kylo Ren."
Poe went pale. "What?!" He gasped.
"That was the last we heard from her. She said she'd get back with us when she'd retrieved the map. That was over sixteen hours ago!"
"Oh my g-!" Poe stepped back, running his hands through his hair. He felt as if he'd been slugged in the belly, and for a moment, he couldn't think straight. He started to feel lightheaded. "She's on that bloody ship, with...I have to go back for her! General, I can't leave her with the First Order!"
"Of course not."
"I'm going back for her right now!"
"Go! If BB-8 has the map, he'll signal us when he is somewhere safe. Go! We'll wait further word."
"Thank you, General." Poe bowed and sprinted out of the command room back to his ship.
Niimma Outpost had been ambushed by stormtroopers and cannon fire. Finn, Rey, and BB-8 had made a run for it and escaped in the 'piece of garbage' cargo ship that Unkar Plutt had refused to give up. Rey had flown the ship while Finn managed the guns. They'd had a hair raising, flimsy start to their attempt, but they had managed to escape, working together.
Once they were in open space, Rey had turned controls to auto pilot. She and Finn were rambling excitedly over the impossible stunt they'd just pulled. "How did you do that?" Finn asked.
"I don't know!" Rey answered.
"That was amazing!" Finn praised.
"3PO!" BB-8 squeaked. Rey knelt down in front of him.
"You're okay. He's with the Resistance. He's gonna get you home. We both will." She said confidently, then looked back pensively at Finn. "I don't know your name."
"Finn. What's yours?" Finn asked.
"I'm Rey."
Poe flew the small pod ship at maximum speed. Leia had ordered him to take a few other fighters along because he shouldn't sneak into the enemy's base of operations alone, and Tania would most likely be hurt from the First Order's hospitality. So, he'd taken a small pod ship and two of his fellow pilots on this rescue mission.
He was pushing the throttles as hard as he could, but it still felt as if they were moving in slow motion. Even at light-speed, this baby could not go fast enough for him! He was sure his heart was racing equal to the rate the ship was sailing.
Poe couldn't shake off the dread in his stomach, knotting it and the chill he felt on his shoulders. How could things get so screwed up. He'd told Tania he was giving the map to BB-8, hadn't he? Things had been so highly pressuring at the time that he couldn't remember exactly as he was running to his X-wing.
If he had neglected to tell her, his younger sister's predicament was all his fault! This was on him. Poe felt like he was going to barf on the dashboard. He'd had his own bloody share of the First Order's idea of entertaining prisoners. To think that Tania was wandering around there, alone, not aware that he was safe at this very moment, and if she was discovered…
Tears blinded his eyes and he had to wipe them hard to see where he was steering the ship. No, he couldn't let those Imperial control freaks hurt his little sister! He prayed with every breath that she would be safe from their sharp surveillance.
"Hang in there, Tanny. I'm on my way!" He swallowed.
