Chapter 7: First love

Twistedpaw opened her eyes. She snuggled closer to the lump of fur beside her. Sunlight blinded her. She looked more closely at the lump of fur next to her. It was Tornpaw! Twistedpaw sat up and yawned.

"Wait where-" Twistedpaw started. Oh no! She thought. "Wake up, Tornpaw!" Twistedpaw yowled in his ear.

"Wha- Oh no! We stayed here all night!" Tornpaw wailed. The two apprentices were still at the gathering place. "I'll miss training!"

"Flamestar will be really mad!" Twistedpaw wailed. "We have to get home quickly!"

"Meet me at the border tonight." Tornpaw meowed and rushed off. Twistedpaw didn't know if she would be able to find her way home.

She leapt over the stream. She would have to cut through Forestclan quickly and hope that no cat saw her. She raced through the trees. She liked the feeling of something being over her head, unlike the Moor biome. She halted as she heard her name being called from the MoorClan border. She ducked into the bushes.

"Twistedpaw!" The cat called again. Twistedpaw growled to herself as she recognized the cats as Pikepaw. She padded silently into the bushes on the MoorClan side of the border. She popped her head out of the bush.

"I'm right here!" She meowed loudly and cheerfully.

"Ahh! Don't scare me like that!" Pikepaw meowed. His eyes were playful. "Where were you?"

"Nowhere." Twistedpaw meowed and stepped out of the bush. She started grooming her twig laden fur.

"Where's nowhere?" Pikepaw asked her. "By the way, I saw you hanging out with that JaggedClan apprentice last night." Twistedpaw's heart caught in her throat. Cats from different clans weren't supposed to be mates. "Don't go getting any ideas." Pikepaw meowed.

"I won't." Twistedpaw meowed. Stop telling me what to do! She thought angrily. "I'll just be getting back to camp now."

"I'll come with you!" Pikepaw meowed and followed her back to camp.

"Twistedpaw! Where have you been?" Flamestar asked her.

"Uh- Night hunting?" Twistedpaw meowed. Flamestar nodded, impressed. Pikepaw nodded in agreement with Twistedpaw.

"Well, you must be exhausted." Flamestar meowed.

"Well-"

"No training for you today. Go off to the apprentices' den." Flamestar meowed. Twistedpaw nodded and trudged off to the apprentices' den, pretending she was tired.
