Author's Note: Harry gets to grip with other Jedi gifts. Enjoy!

"Now you have mastered meditation, it is time for us to test your capabilities at other gifts of the Force," Qui-Gon stated.

"Mind control?" he asked suspiciously.

"Think how useful the skill would have been for you on Tattooine," his Master remarked.

Harry pulled a face. "But then it wouldn't have been a true accomplishment," he stated. "I realise that quite a few of those I liberated slaves from, will just go out and get more, but perhaps, by convincing the Hutts against it, they will lead by example." He ducked his head. "Perhaps even prevent others from doing it."

"You are an optimist," Qui-Gon remarked.

Harry lifted a shoulder. "Life without hope is bitter indeed."

"You realise that our mind control only works on the weak-willed?"

"Just because they are weak of will, does not mean they have no right to choose for themselves," he retorted firmly.

"And that is why we consider mind control carefully before using it," he replied gravely.

His padawan gaped. "You tricked me into revealing my morals."

Qui-Gon smiled. "I tricked you into revealing that you would not do what you feared you might with full use of the skill," he corrected gently. "Shall we?"

"Yes Master," he replied, shaking his head before focussing his attention.

"Master Yoda will be training you this afternoon," Qui-Gon stated. His padawan's eyebrows rose. "He is the most adept at foreseeing we have," he spoke with authority.

"I suppose that explains how he's the best at combat," he murmured.

"Other factors play a part as well," he replied, amusement in his voice.

"Were you always this cheerful?"

"I was always calm," he stated. "I trust in the Force and the Code, even when others lose their faith. But the contentment is new. You played a key part in bringing that about."

"I think Obi plays the biggest part."

"Yes, but neither of us would know our present happiness were it not for your intervention." His expression turned solemn. "You will find your lessons both more difficult and easier than the ones you experienced in your own world. We use the Force, and our adeptness with its gifts, to foresee the future, nothing else."

"Thank the Force," Harry muttered, "I don't have to use something equally ridiculous here."

"They were not so ridiculous."

"Annoying and tedious then."

"You had some talent with it."

"Slight. But I'll giv-" he cut off. "I'll see if I have any adeptness at it," he corrected himself.

"Did you foresee Master Yoda's response?" his Master asked with a smile.

He shook his head. "How long do I have before I need to go?"

"We have time for a review."

Harry groaned but settled on his knees, knowing better than to argue. His stubbornness didn't hold a candle to Qui-Gon's.

Harry stood at their living room, gazing out of the window. "Are you all right Harry?" Qui-Gon asked in concern.

"I sense a great evil," he replied softly. "Pulling the strings of so many, guiding this world to where he wants it to be."

"He?"

"The energy feels male to me," he answered absently.

"We do need to be open to the Force about the future, but not at the sacrifice of the moment," he stated.

Harry turned to him with a smile. "I suppose it would capture my attention, of anything." His Master nodded. "Is there any way to get more details?"

"Meditate upon it, give yourself over to the Force and see if it will reveal more details to you."

"And if it doesn't?"

"Then you must cast it aside, and wait for it to reveal itself in time."

Harry followed his Master as they exited a meeting with several chancellors. Qui-Gon set up a Force-shield, ensuring their words would not carry. "You were quiet," he remarked.

"I thought as your padawan, I was supposed to be quiet and observe?" he retorted.

"Yes, however, even when you do not verbalise, you are never quiet," he stated. "Your expression or our bond speaks for you. Your expression smoothed out and our bond closed off on your end. What is it?"

He blew out a breath. "You know that once I ignored my instincts and was taken in by charming evil," he stated.

"You were young," he defended.

"Yes, I was only twelve, but the fact remains that deep down I knew better, and ignored that in favour of taking Tom at face value." His Master waited. "I sense the same evil from Palpatine," he spoke in a rush.

"Then we shall have to watch and wait for him to reveal himself."

Harry blinked. "You believe me?" he breathed.

"Yes," Qui-Gon stated. He laid a hand on Harry's shoulder. "And I would have done, even if I had not have seen your memories." Tension left his frame. "We should inform the Council."

"What?"

"Yes," he spoke definitively. "I shall cancel our appointment on our way to the Council chambers, they need to know as soon as possible."
