Day 15 - From Michael JG Meathook: A cursed tome.
A/N: Another 221B, and a continuation of the mystery in Gotham
.
.
There had been a book in the tunnel, wrapped in brown paper and sitting just under the knife in a bloodied package. The knife was obviously the murder weapon, but why the murderer would also leave a book of Gotham legends alongside it defied explanation. Even Holmes was perplexed.
He sat in Bruce Wayne's sitting room, a frown on his face as he regarded the book on the table before him. "Hiding the book and weapon together suggest the murderer wanted them to be found together," Holmes mused. "Perhaps to mislead the investigators. But why go through so much trouble to hide both? Why not leave them at the scene of the crime? And why make them so difficult to find that none save myself and Watson were able to find them?"
"Perhaps to convince us he didn't want them found?" I suggested.
"Perhaps," Holmes conceded. "But in that event, one would expect the murderer would have made the package exactly easy enough for any officer of the law to find." Holmes sighed, and flipped through the sludge-stained pages of the book. There were elaborate drawings and descriptions of Gotham legends inside. "There can only be two possibilities, Watson: either this was never meant to be found, or the murderer meant for us, and no one else to find this book."
