I do not own Twilight or Vampire Diaries. I am just borrowing a few characters to share a story that won't leave me.
This is not a happy story and some characters will not have a happy ending for everyone so you are warned. I usually love Edward and Bella pairings, this time Damon Salvatore gets a happy ending without Elena. I am sure there are many other stories you can read so if my story bothers you please be happy and look elsewhere.
While I admit I am not perfect, pointing out mistakes is welcome, however remember to be nice. We are all human and make mistakes, being mean will not be tolerated. If you are mean, change something in your life so you can find the happiness you need. Life is short and everyone deserves to be happy.

Twilight New Moon: Bella's birthday
Vampire Diaries: Damon learns Katherine is not in Tomb and leaves town.
I will try to keep the locations and characters clear so that you can follow the story I am changing the flow of the story so be prepared it will not follow the show/books.
Mystic Falls- Stefan Salvatore
With Damon gone, the drama slowed down a bit for Stefan. He did not have to worry about his older brother causing more problems with Elena. Elena was returning to the sweet girl Stefan remembered meeting, although his relationship with Bonnie had cooled as the girl refused to be anywhere near him or Elena when she was with Stefan.
Bonnie had taken her grandmother's death hard and although she blamed Damon, Stefan was his brother and more importantly he was a vampire and that would never change. She was afraid for her friend and could not convince Elena to leave Stefan.
Caroline was dating Matt Donovan and although she was friendly with Elena and Stefan there was not going to be any double dates if she could help it. Matt was unsure where their relationship was going which made Caroline nervous to be around Elena.
The friendship of the three girls seemed broken and most of the original group blamed Stefan, although Bonnie was the only one to know his true nature, they just assumed Elena had changed when Stefan arrived in town.
Stefan often voiced his concern to Elena about her friendships cooling and how it was his fault for the change. Elena reassured him that even if he had not come into her life, Bonnie would still be a witch, Caroline would want Matt, Matt would be heartbroken because they would not have reconciled. Vicki's untimely death might or might not have happened with her drug use. As Elena tried to justify all that had happened, Stefan only heard it was his fault for returning to Mystic Falls.
There had been another animal attack in Mystic Falls which worried Stefan and Elena. They knew it was not Damon as he was in Washington State of all places, the unknown vampire worried him.
Damon had phoned again with an invitation to visit for the Christmas holidays. Stefan knew this was all Bella's doing. Bella and her father Charlie had invited Elena and her family thinking Stefan would agree to visit if Elena was included. Bella understood that Elena was important to Stefan and if she was going to his sister they all needed to get to know each other.
Bella had her father call Elena's Aunt Jenna and invite the family for Christmas. Later it was learned that Charlie had spoken with Aunt Jenna several times. They bonded over what it was like to be suddenly responsible for teenagers.
Elena has shared with Bonnie and Caroline her families plans to travel to Washington State for Christmas break. Mystic Falls would have to do without the Gilbert family at the annual Christmas Ball held at the Lockwood mansion.
Elena failed to mention that Damon was living in Washington State, hoping to avoid more strife between their friendships. They would learn the truth later on but Elena was offering any details.
It was over Christmas break that Tyler had accidentally killed a girl when he and his friends got drunk at the Christmas ball held at his home triggering the werewolf curse.
