Chapter 15: The Kiss Scene

The play has been going great for everyone! The audience laughs at the funny moments and the actors and actresses continue to enjoy giving everyone a show. They acted out the scene when Aladdin was talking to Jafar in the desert, the entire scene inside the Cave of Wonders when Aladdin was looking for the oil lamp, the part when he found a Mantine (playing as the Magic Carpet), the song and dance with the Genie inside the cave about how to make his wishes, the part outside the cave when Aladdin makes his first wish to become a Prince, and when Prince Ali meets Princess Jasmine in the castle.

Now it's almost time for May and Drew to act the scene of flying on the magic carpet. However...May is sitting down on a chair backstage, staring at the floor, and her legs are shaking.

("The next scene is the most...romantic…") May thought.

"Daisy?" Drew's voice sounded from next to her.

May lifted her head up and turned it to look at Drew in the seat next to her. "What is it?" She asked.

"Are you okay? You're shaking." Drew said worriedly.

"I'm fine!" May answered quickly.

Drew narrowed his eyes. "Why are you lying to me?"

"What? I-I'm not lying." May said.

"Tell me why you're nervous for the next scene. When we rehearse it in class, you are perfect at it."

"T-thanks…" May blushed. "I'm not nervous to sing...I'm just nervous because…" May mumbled the end of the sentence. Drew cocked his head in confusion.

"What was that?" He asked because he couldn't understand what she said.

May mumbled why she's nervous again, but Drew still didn't hear what she said.

"One more time." Drew said.

"I'm nervous of the kiss scene." May said quietly, so Drew could barely hear.

"Umm...I'll be honest with you and say that...I'm actually nervous about that too." Drew said as he blushed slightly.

"You are?"

"Yeah." Drew answered. "The teacher said that since we knew how the scene is supposed to go, we didn't need to rehearse it in class. Now it's the real deal."

"It's just that…" May said, turning her gaze to the floor. "I don't think I'd like my first kiss to be from a play."

("First?") Drew thought. He continued staring at May while she started shaking again.

Drew smiled. "Then it won't be a first kiss."

May looked at Drew. "Huh?"

"First kisses are usually done on the lips. So that means...I just won't kiss you on the lips."

May just stared at Drew, trying to understand.

"I don't want my first kiss to be from a play either." Drew said. "The teacher wants us to kiss, so I'll just kiss you on your forehead."

"But…"

"Trust me." Drew said.

They stared into each other's eyes for a while until May finally smiled.

"Thanks." May said shyly.

May is onstage. The stage looks like Jasmine's bedroom. May walks to a table near the balcony which leads backstage. She looks at some maps that are laid out on the table. The Persian is in the room too.

Knock knock knock.

"Come in." May said when she heard someone knock. She's still looking at the maps.

"Actually, I'm already in." Drew said from the balcony. He walked onstage, so the audience could see him. May turned around and gasped.

"Don't. Move." May said.

Persian started approaching him and was growling. Drew looked at the Persian walking closer to him.

"I just came back because you left so…" Drew said to May.

"How did you get there?" May questioned, pointing at him.

Drew didn't answer for a moment because he's thinking of how to answer her.

"Magic Carpet?" Drew answered, more in a question. May scoffed.

May looked back at her maps. Drew started walking closer to her. Persian started growling louder at him.

"Persian, let's not eat the Prince today. I think he deserves to last at least another day." May said.

Drew laughed nervously. He stood next to May and looked at the maps.

"Maps?" Drew questioned.

May looked up at him. "Maps are how I see the world."

Drew looked at May. "I thought a Princess could go anywhere."

"...not this Princess."

May looked back down at the maps on the table.

"...Well," Drew said. May looked at him. "Would you wanna…?" He said walking backwards.

"What?" May questioned.

"You should see these places." Drew said. He turned around, walking out on the balcony. The balcony on the stage is at an angle, so the audience is able to see it. "I mean, there's a whole world outside of books and maps." May slowly started following him.

They both stopped and are facing each other. "...do you want to?" Drew asked.

"How? Every door is guarded." May said.

"Who said anything about a door?" Drew asked. He turned around and walked further on the balcony.

"What are you doing?" May asked suddenly, walking forward onto the balcony.

"Sometimes, Princess…" Drew said as he climbed onto the railing, facing her. "Sometimes, you just have to believe." With that said, Drew jumped off of the railing and landed on a large pillow, and the audience couldn't see him.

May gasped. "What just happened?"

"Whoa, where did he go?" Dawn whispered in the audience.

"I'm really impressed with how well they're acting and how well the teacher put together this play." Misty said.

From behind the railing, Mantine arrived and Drew climbed onto it. They slowly started flying up. May walked closer to the railing, looking at the Mantine.

"What?" May said incredulously. She looked up at Drew. "Is this…?"

"A Magic Carpet?" Drew finished. He kneeled down on Mantine. "Do you trust me?"

"...what did you say?"

"Do you trust me?" Drew asked again, holding out his hand to May.

May slowly slipped her hand into his, never losing eye contact with him. "Yes." Was all May said.

Drew helped May onto the railing, she climbed onto Mantine, and they sat next to each other. Drew gently placed a hand on May's back, keeping her from falling off. In a quick second, the set changed. The Psychic Pokémon backstage took all of the furniture off the stage and moved them backstage, changed the background to be a starry night sky, and changed the walls around the audience to be a night sky as well.

"Wow…" Dawn breathed.

"We get to hear them sing together now." Gary said.

Mantine slowly started flying May and Drew above the audience. They all watched as they flew in the air. Soft music started playing.

(This song is "A Whole New World" from Aladdin.)

"I can show you the world." Drew sang. "Shining, shimmering. Splendid. Tell me, Princess. Now when did you last let your heart decide?" May smiled and looked to her right at the sky on the wall.

"I can open your eyes." Drew continued. May looked back at him. "Take you wonder by wonder. Over sideways and under," he sang as they turned a corner of the theater. "On a magic carpet ride."

"A whole new world." Drew sang as they flew higher up. "A new fantastic point of view." They descended a little. "No one to tell us no, or where to go. Or say we're only dreaming."

"A whole new world." May sang, getting up on her knees and letting her arms hang behind her. Drew smiled as he looked at her. "A dazzling place I never knew." She sat back on her legs. "But when I'm way up here, it's crystal clear." May looked at Drew. "That now I'm in a whole new world with you."

"Now I'm in a whole new world with you." Drew repeated as Mantine sped up the flight around the audience. Mantine flew them down right next to the audience in the aisles.

"Unbelievable sights." May sang as she looked around the theater. "Indescribable feeling. Soaring, tumbling, freewheeling. Through an endless diamond sky." They flew up again towards the ceiling.

"A whole new world." May sang as they made a slope down and she closed her eyes and wrapped her arms around Drew's arm.

"Don't you dare close your eyes."

May opened her eyes. "A hundred thousand things to see." Mantine stopped sloping and they flew right above the ground again in an aisle.

"Hold your breath, it gets better."

"I'm like a shooting star. I've come so far. I can't go back to where I used to be."

"A whole new world." Drew sang as they ascended again.

"Every turn, a surprise."

"With new horizons to pursue."

"Every moment, red letter."

"I'll chase them anywhere." They sang together. "There's time to spare. Let me share this whole new world with you."

"A whole new world." Drew sang.

"A whole new world." May repeated.

"That's where we'll be."

"That's where we'll be." May placed her head on Drew's shoulder.

"A thrilling chase."

"A wondrous place."

"For you and me." They sang as they looked into each other's eyes.

Mantine slowly flew them down the aisle in the center of the theater, towards the stage while they held out their notes. When they got to the stage, they flew backstage.

"Wow...they're really perfect together." Dawn said.

"They sure are." Misty said. "If only they could admit that."

The audience watched as the set changed again in an instant. The walls became Agrabah, but at night. And the stage was still the night sky.

"Ready?" Drew asked May backstage.

May nodded. Mantine flew them back out. They floated in the air above the stage, facing the audience, still on Mantine.

"Of all the places you've shown me," May said, looking at the audience. "This is by far the most beautiful."

"Sometimes, you just have to see it from a different perspective." Drew said.

"It's them. The people. They make it beautiful." May said. "And they deserve a leader who knows that. I don't know why I think it could be me."

Drew looked at May. "Because it should be you."

May looked at Drew. "You think so?"

"Does it matter what I think?" Drew asked as he reached out and tucked strands of hair behind May's ear.

May stared at Drew and blushed a little. He took his hand back and continued looking at her. May stared at Drew for a while. She looked back at the audience.

"Oh, look at that adorable little monkey down there." May said. "Is that Aipom?"

Drew looked at the audience as well. "No, no. It couldn't be Aipom, he's…" his voice trailed off. After a moment, Drew let out a sigh.

"So how many names do you have, Prince Aladdin?" May asked, looking at Drew.

Drew looked at May. "No, no, I…"

"So who is Prince Ali?"

"I-I am...Prince Ali." Drew said, slightly nodding.

"But how would you know the city so well?"

"I came to Agrabah early…" Drew answered. "Because to know a people, you have to see them for yourself, but you already know that. When we first met, you were disguised in your own city."

May looked back at the audience, nervously smiling.

"You saw us arrive with dancers, an elephant, and a magic carpet." Drew continued. "How could a street thief have all that?"

"But how could I not recognize you?" May questioned, looking at Drew.

"...people don't see the real you when you're Royalty." Drew answered.

It was silent for a moment.

"I'm sorry." May said. "I'm embarrassed." She looked down at the audience again. "I mean, you've seen more of Agrabah in days then I have in an entire lifetime."

Drew stared at May with a frown for a moment.

"We should…" Drew started. May looked at him. "...probably head back."

"Already?"

Mantine flew Drew and May backstage once again. The set changed to have Jasmine's balcony at a sideways angle, so the audience could see the kiss scene perfectly.

Mantine flew in from backstage and they flew to the raised wooden balcony on the stage. Drew and May stood up on Mantine and Drew held May's hand while she carefully stepped onto her balcony. Mantine descended with Drew standing on it. He's now slightly below eye level with May. He's outside of the balcony while she's on the balcony, holding the railing.

"Until tomorrow, Princess." Drew said.

Mantine suddenly moved upward, moving Drew's face closer to May's. Their faces are now five inches away from each other. They stared into each other's eyes for that moment. Drew could tell that May was getting nervous about the kiss again.

Drew leaned in closer to May, but moved his head to the left. He placed a soft kiss on her cheek. May immediately blushed at the contact that they had. Drew backed away from her and they both smiled.

"Good night." May said. She turned around and walked backstage.

"Good night." Drew said. Drew continued staring in the direction that May went for a few seconds before he lifted his arms to be perpendicular to his body and he started to fall backwards like being part of a trust fall. "Yes." He said softly.

He landed on Mantine with his hands and arms on both of Mantine's wings. Mantine slowly flew the opposite direction that May went and they both went offstage.
