Ashley POV
Zac called me not long after Dylan and Van left his parents house and he sounded really upset. I sit on my bed with Maui and think about the conversation that I've not long had with Zac.
Flashback
Me, Chris, Maui and Shadow are playing tug of war when my phone rings. I sigh and drop Maui's toy. I pick up the phone and see the caller ID: Zac Efron. With a small smile on my face, I answer it.
"So is there a Zanessa again?"
"Haha, real funny, Ash. No, there's no Zanessa yet."
"Come on,Zachary. We know you two still like each other so what's the problem?"
"The problem is, Ashley, is that I'm an addict who has been single for three years after letting the only girl I've ever truly loved slip away and now that true love is back in my life and blaming herself for my additions. Say if we were dating again and I had a relapse in my addictions, how would Vanessa feel? She'd totally blame herself for it, just like she's doing now."
"You're overreacting, Zac. Van loves you and you love her, you just don't know it yet."
"I guess."
"What's up?"
"What do you mean? Can't a friend call a friend nowadays?"
"Yes, Zac, but I know you are calling to talk to me about Van."
"Okay, I am calling to talk about Van but it's important."
"Why? What's happening?"
"She's been really quiet since yesterday and only spoke when she felt the need to. After breakfast, she went upstairs to get her stuff and when she came down, she started talking like she was saying goodbye."
"Yeah, Zac, when anyone leaves a house, it's important to say goodbye."
"No, you're not listening to me properly. Ash, it sounded like a goodbye forever, like she'd never contact us again."
"Oh."
"What should I do? I can't loose her again, I've just got her back. I'm not loosing her again, not now, not ever."
"I know that you can't loose her again and you won't but you need to talk to her about it."
"She won't talk to me. So how am I supposed to talk to her about it?"
"Who else does Van talk to asides from me, Stella and her parents?"
"She might be willing to talk to my parents or even Dylan."
"Maybe."
"I an idea."
"Oh no, what is it?"
"It's an idea, not a plan."
"Samething."
"Whatever. Anyway, if she's not speaking to me or you in a week, call me and I'll get Dylan and my parents down there and they'll make her talk. If that doesn't work, they'll drag her up here and I'll talk to her. One way or the other, she'll talk."
"That sounds good. She'll be contacting you in aweek anyway to ask for your decision."
"Ugh. I don't see the point of telling her my decision because she'll drag my ass to rehab regardless of my answer."
"Haha, yeah she will."
"So about the idea?"
"Yeah right, we'll try it."
"Cool, let me know if she speaks about it. I gotta go. Love you, Ash."
"Love you too, Zac."
The phone hangs up. I look at Chris who is playing tug of war with Maui. "You okay, Babe?" Chris asks as Maui growls at him for taking her toy. "Maui." I scold gently. Maui whimpers and retreats to her bed. Chris hugs me, having heard the conversation between me and Zac. "So are you gonna ask Van why she was saying goodbye to the Efron's?" I sigh. "If Van tells me then I won't betray her trust if she tells me that I can't share with anyone." Chris. "Good idea." I smile and we watch as the two puppies wrestle together for the toy. "Be glad Van isn't here to see this." Chris comments as Shadow swipes Maui's nose. I chuckle. Yep, Van wouldn't be happy with Shadow or me if I told Zac what she told me.
