The hotel that held the banquet couldn't be any more sumptuous and opulent, bustling with men in tuxedos and women in extravagant formal dresses. The butler opened the car door for Alicia to greet her, and ushered them into the biggest ball room she'd ever seen. She felt like Cinderella arriving at the prince's castle.

The governor's table was near the stage, easier for him to get up there to give a speech. She hadn't even sat down when Eli approached her to give her the "pep talk".

"Okay, do you know the goal of tonight?" Eli asked.

"To enjoy the food and have a good time?" Alicia wouldn't miss a chance to mock him a little. Eli rolled his eyes.

"Tonight is the biggest fund-raising event of the year. The people here are CEOs and bosses of Chicago's biggest businesses and companies. We need them to sign checks to fund our campaign. You and Peter have to…"

"Appear to be Chicago's number 1 power couple. Noted." Alicia finished the sentence for him.

Eli continued "Remember to…"

"Hold his hands when we get up to the stage. I know. Eli, I've been his wife for 18 years, you think I wouldn't know how to handle events like this?"

Eli nodded nervously. "Good. Just… be Saint Alicia." And he dashed off to continue his "campaign manager stuffs". Alicia rolled her eyes.

The night went on smoothly. Food was delicious. Peter gave a speech. Near the end of the night, Peter and Alicia toured around the ball room to give toasts, shake hands, pretend to be friendly with them to encourage them to write checks for the campaign. Alicia thought it almost felt like her own wedding. They both drank many glasses of champagne and wine.

At the end of the night, the press asked them to go onto the stage for pictures. Cameras flashing, Alicia held onto Peter's hand and smiled.

"Look this way" Journalists shouted from different directions. Alicia felt like a Hollywood celebrity. "Can you give us a more intimate pose?" One of them asked.

Peter wrapped his arm around her waist to pull her closer, and kissed her on her lips. He even stayed on her lips for a while longer for the journalists to take pictures. Alicia gone stiff, but she couldn't push him away in front of everyone. There was no choice for her but to go along with it.

Then, in the corner of her eyes, she saw Will standing near the entrance, staring at them. Alicia was shocked. Oh my God, why is he here?

Turns out, "Chicago's biggest business and companies" also included the biggest law firms. Diane was supposed to represent L/G, but she got notice in the last minute that Kurt had a fever. She asked Will to step in for her in the last minute.

Will didn't have time to tell Alicia that he was going to the banquet too, because Alicia was busy helping Peter, acting like a good wife.

She gasped. Will knew she saw him. He looked down for a second, then turned around and left the ball room.

She turned to Peter and said quietly "I need to go."

Peter looked concerned. "Everything alright?"

"Yes, just that I started to have headache. I need to go home and rest." She lied. She wanted to chase after Will. She knew Will saw them kissing on the stage. Oh my God Oh my God Oh my God, no no no no no… she kept thinking.

She left and fled to the back stage where her purse was. Peter followed behind her.

"Peter, I am fine, really. You don't have to come with me." She turned around and told him.

Peter put his hands on her shoulders. "Alicia, you are not feeling well. I need to take care of you."

"Peter. No, really, I am fine." She tried to wiggled out of his grasp. They were alone in the back stage.

But Peter wouldn't let go. "Why wouldn't you let me take care of you? I am your husband." He held Alicia's waist and pulled her close to him. He clearly had too much to drink, his face flushed.

"Peter, no!" But he was so much stronger than her, she couldn't push him away. "Why wouldn't you give me another chance? 18 years of marriage means nothing to you? I fell in love with you again, and I promised I will be better this time. Why won't you trust me?"

Then Peter forced a kiss on her lips.

She pushed him away, and slapped him on his face. They were both out of breath.

Will was right. Peter is not giving up that easily. They stared at each other, panting. She didn't need to say another word. The slap was enough to show her rejection.

All she could think of, was Will.

She picked up her purse, and ran out of the hotel. She burst into tears.

She feared Will may leave her. She regretted not listening to him. She blamed herself for not recognizing Peter's motive earlier.

Why do I feel like I am cheating on Will? I am not, right?
