*Doing alot of updates today. Trying to keep up with all the stories I have going on!*
Peterson Park 4:45pm November 15th
"Lenny, what do you have for us?" Emily asked walking across the park. The LAPD coroner, Lenny Clark was investigating Lauren's body.
"Lauren Matthews, single gunshot wound to head. Lenny said. She didn't suffer thankfully."
"She wasn't shot point-blank was she?" Rex asked.
"No, Phillips was a good distance away before taking the shot. Same with the multiple shots fired at Pride." They left him to his work and then split up to start questioning anyone around if they had seen anything.
"I saw him getting out of his car. The florist told Emily. He was wearing dark clothing and shoved something into his pocket."
"Yeah I saw that guy. The ice cream man, Mr. Hampton, said to Rex. He scared the kids. Shame about what happened to that woman and Officer Pride. He's very well known around here." They interviewed a few more witnesses and then met back up.
"Most of the people I talked to said they saw Phillips get out of his car and walk into the park, but thought nothing off it." Rex said.
"Same here, though two of the soccer moms saw him come close to the soccer field, but were paying too much attention to the players to notice him." Emily said.
"What about security cameras? Did we check if any of the stores have them?"
"The florist, bakery, and laundromat on the west side of the park have them, but it only shows the front and insides of the businesses. And the gym said they have one, but it's been disconnected for over a month."
"Detectives? Could I talk to you?" They turned and saw a man in his late thirties.
"And you are?" Rex asked.
"I'm Logan Scott. The man said. I was in the gym when I heard the gunshots. I ran out and tried to help some kids and their parents to safety."
"Do you happen to see this man in?" Emily asked. She showed him a picture of Sid.
"Yes I do, unfortunately. Logan said. I knew both him and his wife for many years. All three of us went to college together, and then I moved into the house next to them after they got married. I've heard every fight they have ever had since that sweet little girl was born. I watched him leave many times and not come home for weeks on end."
"Did you ever hear what they were saying?" Rex asked.
"Not word for word, but I knew Lauren was always angry at him for something. And every time he just snapped back and blamed everything on her. I felt bad calling the police a few times because of the noise level, but I had at least hoped that it would buy that girl time to relax instead of being yelled at and abused by that manic. I would see Lauren the next day with a new bruise on her face or arms picking up the newspaper."
"How about her?" Emily said, showing him a picture of Madeline. Logan studied the picture and sighed.
"Oh yeah, I saw him pushing that little girl into the back of his car. So small, so scared, but she kept trying to fight back out of his grip."
"Would you be willing to come down to the precinct and give us a full statement?" Emily asked as Rex's phone went off. He went to answer it as Logan nodded.
"Absolutely. I'll head over right now." He left to get into his car. Emily turned to Rex.
"Everything okay?"
"That was Adams. He has the search warrant for Phillip's house."
*Adams is going to be ADA Chuck Adams. I felt chuckles would be the more serious one for that role, hehe.*
