Lord Uzumaki smiled down at Nagato, as they both sat in the boy's room... it had been so long since the boy had a room to call his own... the place had luxurious furniture. A giant comfy bed, which the pair was currently sitting on. It had been a pain, for the short boy, to climb up here. Given there were three rows of large drawers, and a thick foam mattress.
Nagato wasn't sure why they were on the bed... given the room had a sitting area. This singular room was near the size of Yahiko's cave. It was just so huge and roomy. In one corner, was a large desk, with many shelves, drawers, and cubbies. On one wall was many a bookshelf... with all his favorite titles... and old family albums he had been forced to leave behind... there was even a toy box, containing his old toys... even his childhood plushies on his bed...
Lord Uzumaki said he went back in time, and got all the boy's belongings... and old family treasures... the boy spent a good hour weeping as he clung to his old childhood friends, stuffed of cotton they may be.
Even Yahiko got choked up, when he realized these really were his things and not simple replicas... the kids had thought these items lost... lost with their families... it hurt to look at them, and remember happier times... back when everything wasn't a struggle...
Konan had reacted by destroying everything in the room... only for the Doctor to wave his sonic screwdriver, and instantly repair it all... she didn't destroy the things a second time... just sat in the room, attempting to sink into the floor... feeling completely lost.
Nagato knew how hard she tried to move past such things... and now to have it again... she couldn't process her feelings over it.
The rooms also came with a three way bunk bed, complete with privacy curtains. Presumably for sleep overs, but Lord Uzumaki explained they were for when the Kids got their own Genin... the room even came with 4 walk in closets, and 2 half baths... they were supposed to bathe in the TARDIS' private bathhouse, down on the crew deck...
This ship... was supposed to be their home for the rest of their lives... a real home... he had a home again...
The original, Lord Uzumaki, was currently grafting the Uzumaki bloodline, to Nagato's friends. However, while Jiraiya was distracted with overseeing that, a clone of the god had come to speak to Nagato. Though, the man appeared to want nothing more then to give the boy a history lesson on his inheritance.
"Unlike with the other races I brought to this world," Lord Uzumaki began. "Who all had enough numbers to sustain a healthy population. The Time Lord bloodline trait became more a throwback gene. Due to all the Time Lord descendants, interbreeding with the other races, to the extreme. The other species may have interbred, as well, but there were a lot more of them. So the core of their genetics was preserved. Manifesting in the form of 'Bloodline traits', or rather 'Kekkei Genkai'.
"There was only one Time Lord, to start, so when her descendants bred with the other humanoids, the genes got more and more diluted, until they were basically nonexistent. Though, occasionally, an Uzumaki Kekkei Genkai, would still manifest.
"Inevitably, all the descendants of specific species, came back together, and formed clans. In order to preserve the bloodlines.
"Though not all Uzumaki manifested the same abilities. Some only inherited the mental abilities, others a more diluted healing factor (as an off shoot of regeneration energy). Most could sense Chakra, in more detail, then the rest of this worlds inhabitants... There were also powerful oracles, in our clan. Who could sense fixed points in history, as well as have the occasional 'vision' into time. then there are those beautiful eyes of yours...
"You see, even by Time Lord standards, I was exceptional. I developed a rare trait, which let me manifest powers over time. That trait was not so much a part of my genetics, but rather a freak manifestation of my magic. Not even the Time Lords could figure out how it developed, though it seemed to run in families. You're eyes are a more diluted version of that power...
"But it's more then that, isn't it. I wasn't lying when I said you were the first to manifest, in quite a number of years... you don't realize this, but you developed ALL the Time Lord traits. The healing, the chakra sense, that beautiful brain, you even have our extra lives... your the closest thing to a real Time Lord on this rock.
"It isn't exact. Instead of Regenerating, the mix of humanoid blood, will repair your body, an indefinite number of times. You'll even keep the same face and personality, which I got to tell you, I'm all kinds of jealous about... but you can't survive instantly fatal attacks. Blows that your other clansmen can walk away from, will kill you stone dead... but your more powerful then they are. There is enough energy in your little body, to destroy a moon... I'm sure the progenitor of your race would be pleased to see a fully manifested Time Lord, can still be naturally born 10000 years later..."
The original Time Lord, fell silent, as he remember something.
"Susan." Nagato informed, after the old man, with the young face, went quiet.
Lord Uzumaki stiffened... before smiling, "I'm glad her name has not been lost to history."
Nagato squirmed, "I know we aren't allowed to speak a Time Lord's true name outside the clan."
Lord Uzumaki blinked, "You think that's her REAL name?" He seemed genuinely shocked. Shaking his head, "Well, it's been 10 thousand years. You are bound to have mucked up your history a bit."
Nagato shifted, even more uncomfortable.
The Doctor seemed to ignore this, and just explained, "Susan was her chosen name. The name she decided to give to the world. Hagoromo was the name the people of this world, gave to her, her real name... its not something even I dare speak. It's rather Taboo for Time Lords, after they reach a certain age."
Nagato understood the implications... The Uzumaki weren't Time Lord enough to be trusted with such a sacred thing, as the name of the All Father... This man might feel beholding to them... but they weren't really family.
Nagato hung his head, the sentiment hurting more then it should realistically... after all the Uzumaki clan shared so few genes with Susan at this point. They weren't even the same species anymore... they shouldn't expect his own grandfather, to recognize them as family.
"Alex..." The man suddenly said.
Nagato looked back up. Not understanding the word.
"I might not feel comfortable speaking Susan's name," Lord Uzumaki looked so serious, as if he had just trusted the boy with a grave secret. "But that really is because she would be offended at being treated like a child. Sharing a Time Lord's name, should only be done by the Time Lord themselves. So, naturally, I have no issue telling you my name."
Nagato's eyes widened, as realization hit him. He gulped, "Alex...?" He tested out the odd name. It certainly sounded alien.
The Oncoming Storm nodded. "Alexandermacedon Sigmaakronosvexsithkada," The man seemed to make a bunch of random noises... that Nagato seared into his hearts. "But that's a bit of a mouthful."
"Do... Do I have permission to call you by name?" The boy dared ask.
The Doctor huffed, "I'm not a child." Though he gave a very childish pout.
Nagato smiled, feeling a million times better. Even if Lord Uzumaki didn't let him say it, he still trusted the boy with his name... he really did think of the Clan as family.
"Did you share your name with the whole clan?" the boy asked.
The Time Lord continued to pout, "No one else was rude enough to ask."
The boy blushed. He imagined it would be rude to ask a Time Lord their true name... given how sacred they considered it.
"Names give power," The Doctor explained. "That's old magic... just knowing my true name gives you great power over me... not that you would know any of the Spells that could make use of that." he smiled, "Still, it's a symbol of ultimate trust for a Time Lord."
Nagato blushed more, as he began rubbing his hands. "We just met."
"We're family," The Doctor just gave a careless shrug.
Nagato suddenly grew suspicious, "Jiraiya told me about a prophecy. About an Uzumaki rising to either save, or destroy, the world..." Did Lord Uzumaki just want to use him, to.
Lord Uzumaki frowned, "That's what I'm here to stop. Something bad is coming, Nag-Chan."
"I'm supposed to stop it." Nagato pulled in on himself. The sheer weight of such a burden, crushing him.
"You're supposed to start it."
Nagato's eyes widened, as he stared at his Ancestral God. "No! What! That's not!-"
Alex gently touched the boy's shoulder... looking into his eyes with pure sincerity, "It's your choice, Nag-Chan. The future is not written in stone. And while most of the time, knowing the future ensures it, other times, it's all that can stop it." The god gave him a playful wink, "I've gotten rather good at telling the difference."
"S-so it won't happen?" Nagato gulped.
"Not so long as you don't let it," assured Lord Uzumaki. "Just remember, the Road to hell is paved on good intentions."
The boy blinked, never having heard such wisdom... it sounded like the Doctor was reciting an ancient saying... perhaps one that had been lost to time... or one from a few galaxies to the left.
"So long as you remember that," smiled the Time Lord. Ruffling the boy's hair. "You're future will remain bright and cheerful... I see... so many possibilities for you. You can do so much good... So long as you remember that little bit of Wisdom."
Nagato looked down, giving a hesitant nod. "If... I'm supposed to cause the end of the world... why did you trust me with your name... especially if it can be used to hurt you."
Alex smiled, "Because I believe in your strength. Because I believe, you would never allow yourself to become that... because I want no secrets between us... and because I want to help you reach your full potential... remember kid, life is harsh, cruel, and overly unfair... but the only way to fix that is too strip everyone of everything that makes us human. People are beautiful, because they are flawed. Because in the horrors, small acts of kindness are sprinkled about... like a struggling orphan, taking pity on another."
Nagato smiled, thinking of his friends... of Yahiko...
"Without evil, we wouldn't be able to recognize the good," Uzumaki explained. "It's the obligation, of all good people, to help each other make it through this indifferent cosmos. Every life you save, is worth more then the lives you take..."
Nagato eyed the man a moment, "From the stories..." he dared point out. "You have killed billions."
"Trillions," The Doctor confirmed. "It's within my power, to put an end to evil. To conquer every world, take every life that dares even think an unworthy thought... do you want to know why I don't."
Nagato hesitantly nodded.
"Because any world, built on so much blood, would be the very definition of evil." Alex looked up at the ceiling, "I've taken lives... crushed armies made up of more people then even live on this planet... my very name has caused armies, far larger, to turn and flee in terror. Monsters, that truly have no emotions, have coward before me... begging for their lives...
"but through all of that... I never lost sight of what I was really fighting for. I'm not fighting to end the fighting. There is no final end goal to truly destroy evil. I'm fighting, so others don't have to. So that the innocent can live their lives without fear. This world is not unique, Nag-Chan... every single galaxy is made up of endless wars. It's up to people like us, not to end the war, but to save as many people as we can. Even if it is to extend their life for a single day."
"I'm not like you," Nagato tried to hold back tears. "I couldn't even save my parents..."
"... neither could I..."
###
Yahiko listened, from his place at the door... he came in around the time Nagato started talking about the prophecy... about his destiny... He knew Jiraiya put a lot of pressure on the boy... but who could really believe such a meek boy could cause the end of the world?...
Yahiko gulped, feeling sick... was this his fault?... He was always pushing Nagato... trying to toughen him up to survive out here... trying to convince him it was necessary for ending war... but hearing the man talk... it really wasn't a realistic goal... you couldn't end war without altering human nature... and how would such an act be anything but evil? Would the ends justify the means? He didn't know any more...
Yahiko had heard the stories, from both Jiraiya and the Uzumaki he grew up with. The orange haired boy knew all about how the Uzumaki sailed the stars, protecting their Mega System... he could easily believe it, after seeing the inside of this Vessel... and while he thought the Uzumaki Captain was exaggerating, he could only imagine what it was like, fighting wars across multiple planets...
Yahiko had seen so many horrors, in his young life, just from being caught in the crossfire...
He didn't want to believe it wasn't possible to end war... yet hearing a seasoned Shinobi lament about his purpose... He had no idealistic dreams of ending war. Yet the man still fought, not for any material gains... or unrealistic ideals... nor even for the "glory" of fighting...
This man was fully aware of the horrors of war... yet he knew he would spend his entire life fighting... just so that others could be spared the need to fight...
Stepping away from the door, Yahiko decided to show his new eyes to Nagato, later.
Their captain had just handed over the power to destroy armies... he was as strong as their Sensei... yet that wasn't the goal... "the point of fighting isn't to end the fight, but to save as many people as you can".
The Boy had a lot to think about.
###
The Doctor smiled, hearing the soft footsteps backing away from the door. Though it went unnoticed by Nagato.
The old Time Lord had heard the boy's approach. And decided to kill two birds with one stone... Nagato wouldn't change his world view, without Yahiko's approval... but it was rather simple to change the destiny of a child.
A well placed phrase, at a critical moment, that was often all it took to crush Empires... or inspire saints... The Doctor would do all in his power to help these children grow up to be the true heroes they wanted to be.
