For it was in fact the TARDIS that Jackie was seeing. As she looked around she saw the nine Angels, along with the Joelamosia. She blinked and then the Nyusi Angel arrived. "He" had a sack of flour around "his" waist, along with some bottles, the clock he had stolen, and some complex machinery attached to it.
"Been shopping?" Phrropox wryly asked. But just then the doors of the TARDIS opened and from it emerged an elderly woman—who was of course the sophisticated artificial intelligence Cassandra. "At last, the gang's all here."
"No," spoke the Nyusi Angel bitterly, "we still don't have the Doctor, the whole reason we're on this silly planet!"
"I don't understand," Jackie interrupted. "How can the TARDIS be a phonebooth? Where would everyone fit?"
"It's dimensionally transcendent, you silly girl," Cassandra explained patronizingly.
"What?"
"It's larger in the inside than on the outside!" Phrropox, Cassandra and the Nyusi Angel snapped in unison.
"It's larger in the inside…what the others just said," the Doctor said in Jackie's earpiece.
"Why did you bring the Joelamosia?" the Nyusi Angel asked crossly.
"Oh, I thought it would be nice to have a few sermons," Phrropox smiled. "Do you have engaging lectures about my future, Joey baby?"
The Joelamosia was understandably grim. "I see for you decades of sybaritic luxury with a complete contempt for other sentient creatures."
"Really? Because I wasn't sure that I would survive the night."
"Again," the Nyusi Angel interrupted with increased vitriol, "we still don't have the Doctor!"
"Oh, but we do. You see I've been able to record the Doctor's projections from the time bubble she's trapped in. And with a few clicks and adjustments…" And suddenly the Doctor appeared, just to the side of the TARDIS, surrounded by all the others.
"Ah. Hello. Hmmm. Only ten Angels. I think there were fourteen of you when you stole my TARDIS."
Cassandra spoke. "Let's get to the point, Doctor. We had just started travelling, when almost all the power failed. Although all the ways of restoring it were unsuccessful, we have learned that a temporally asynchronous bivalval organic symbiote can revive it."
"A temporally asynchronous bivalval….oh you mean me."
"Very much so. In fact a touch from you on the power console should be enough to make everything right."
"And why would I do that?"
"Well for a start, we'll kill this cow slut if you don't," Phrropox threatened.
"But I'm trapped in a time bubble! I'm not actually here, I'm a projection! I couldn't help you even if I wanted to!"
"Perhaps you need some more initiative." It turned out that one of the devices Phrropox had worked as a taser, and he used it to shock Jackie to the ground.
"Hold on! Hold on!" the Doctor said. "Jackie, are you all right?"
"I'll live," Jackie replied bitterly, repressing her rage towards Phrropox.
"Look I'll need some time. It'll take a few hours."
"You're lying Doctor!" said the Nyusi Angel. "You were able to access the Keepership of Traken. This should be child's play."
"Look, I can't do this under pressure."
"You have saved whole planets innumerable times under far worse pressure than this."
"Maybe I shouldn't bother! The worst thing you do is me and Jackie die. And then nobody gets the TARDIS and the Angels are trapped here!"
"You're forgetting something Doctor," Cassandra interjected. "The Angels can ransack all of Manethysia and find your time bubble's physical presence. You won't let hundreds of Abelards die while they do so."
"Ah. Look I need some time to concentrate. You have to wait a little."
"Actually no, Doctor." Phrropox smiled. "I think we can do this now. I've been monitoring the time bubble. And with a few adjustments, all we have to do is have two Angels enter your projection and bring you here. Because of the bubble's anomalous nature, it won't matter if you keep your eyes open."
"Oh dear…"
"Joelamosia, Jackie close your eyes, or I will kill you. Angels, grab the Doctor."
"Wait!" Cassandra shouted. "Don't move, it's a trap."
"What?"
"This is a trick, Angels. Phrropox's employers don't want you to have the TARDIS. If you move into the bubble you will regret it."
"She's lying! My employer has always stood right by you, while it's just a matter of chance Cassandra joined us on Red Dwarf."
"You seem to be rather busy debating this," the Doctor opined. "Why don't you come back in a few days when you've all sorted this out."
"That's it!" shouted Phrropox. "The Doctor is the real enemy. Any delays only help her!" That was enough to convince two Angels who raced into the bubble and reached for the Doctor—only to vanish.
"What happened?' Jackie asked, her eyes open despite Phrropox's threat.
"The Doctor tricked the two Angels into using their powers against each other." Cassandra realized.
"They could be anywhere in the universe before this time!" the Nyusi Angel shouted angrily.
"Enough!" Phrropox yelled. "We go to Plan B! Doctor show yourself! Jackie is going to walk to the TARDIS doors. If you are not here by the time she reaches them, I will shoot her down." He shoved Jackie ahead. "Start walking you cow!"
Jackie slowly started moving. "Omigod omigod omigod omigod."
"Jackie you just have to hold on for a minute or two," the Doctor said in her ear.
"I don't have a minute or two," Jackie hissed. "It will only take me a few seconds to reach the door."
"Look, I have a plan. Try walking slower."
"Pick up the pace!" Phrropox declared.
"Omigod, I'm going to die. After everything that's happened I'm going to die." Jackie reached out to the door of the TARDIS while Phrropox took out what appeared to be a laser pistol and aimed it at the exact center of the back of her head. Jackie touched the door and heard an unpleasant whine as the laser pistol powered up.
"Just hold on," the Doctor said, "And duck NOW."
Suddenly Phrropox was startled when something hit him. Jackie hit the ground, while the Doctor dashed out of nowhere, right past Cassandra, and reached Jackie.
"Water balloons? WATER BALLOONS!?" Phrropox shouted both indignantly and incredulously. For indeed that was what the Doctor had thrown at him. "Angels grab the Doctor. And rip the other girl to shreds!"
"Actually I don't think they can." And out of the corner of his eye, Phrropox saw an Al-Zephani, wounded, making do on temporary crutches, but with eyes wide open and carrying a mirrored shield to protect him from Phrropox's laser pistol.
The Doctor and Jackie dashed inside the TARDIS, where almost none of the lights were working. The Doctor reached the console, and at her touch the power started again. "Oh no!"
"What is it?" Jackie gasped.
"The power's returning, but not quick enough for me to close the TARDIS door."
Jackie saw Cassandra enter. "Doctor, duck!" And she dragged the Doctor down to the floor, just to miss a shot from Cassandra's own laser pistol. Jackie threw the first thing within reach at Cassandra's hand, forcing her to drop the pistol.
As it happened, it was a copy of Gulliver's Travels. "Oh Jackie, did you have to?" the Doctor regretted. "That was a first edition."
The Doctor and Jackie moved back to the console when Phrropox entered. He adjusted a setting of his pistol, and fired at the two of them. They found themselves in a sort of transparent invisible shell only able to move at a fraction of their ordinary speed. As the power returned Cassandra tried to retrieve her pistol, while Phrropox raced to the console.
"Greenman! Phrropox here! I'm finally in the TARDIS. Now I'm back to check the Array."
"What's happening?" Jackie wondered.
"We're in a temporal bubble. While the outside world moves normally we can only move slowly."
"I don't understand. How did you get out of the bubble you were previously in?"
"I wasn't in one actually. That was all a trick. When the Angels transported me here, I didn't know the language and I had to muddle through as best I could. But I heard there were two humans and I tried to contact the two of you."
Jackie realized something. "I thought somebody was following us earlier today."
"Yes, but Phrropox realized I would contact humans and he found you first."
"Wait, how did you know Phrropox was a fraud?"
"I knew the Conspiracy was here because I was able to detect their radiation. And I realized Phrropox wasn't who he said he was because he was too familiar with advanced technology."
Jackie recognized something. "Oh yeah. I remember him wishing he could play video games."
"So I needed to contact you, but not give away what I knew to Phrropox. And this is where we are now."
There was a pause as Phrropox and Cassandra, now with her pistol again, were furiously switching on levers and buttons and dials. "So what do we do?" Jackie asked.
"Ah, while the Al-Zephani can hold the Angels for a few minutes, he can't do it forever. Which means the Angels can easily breach the sphere and kill us."
"Isn't there a way out?!"
"Well anyone can reach through the sphere and pull us out. Except from the strength of the magnitude and the frequency of the cycle, it would extract a major toll on whoever did it, like ten years of their life." So the two were both surprised when the Joelamosia reached in and yanked them both out.
Immediately wearied by the effort, the Joelamosia fell to the floor, dragging Jackie along. Cassandra aimed her pistol at the Doctor and fired. "Doctor! Remember the Malachi circuit!"
The Doctor ducked again as Cassandra fired again. "You're trying to kill me, and you're trying to tell me something? You must be really desperate," the Doctor correctly realized.
The Joelamosia whispered to Jackie. "I am very weak rescuing you and the Doctor. But she is still in great danger from the Angels. You can save her, if you do exactly what I tell you."
Outside the Angels were all trapped under the Al-Zephani's gaze. But the flour bag around the Nyusi Angel made an odd ticking noise. Suddenly the bag exploded, filling the air with flour, blocking the Al-Zephani's vision.
"Throw yourself in front of the entrance!" the Joelamosia shouted. Jackie did so and for the first time in eons, a Weeping Angel tripped as the Nyusi Angel stumbled over her. Which given "his" speed let to a spectacular crash past the console.
"Back somersault!" Jackie did so, and a second Angel bumped into her, and was deflected right into Cassandra, who was aiming another shot at the Doctor. Both fell to the floor. "Get off me, you idiot!"
"Twirl around using the hat stand!" Jackie did so and was able to kick a third Angel entering back out of the TARDIS and into another one trying to enter. Meanwhile the Doctor was able to shut the door.
"That was incredible!" yelled an elated Jackie. "I was awes…oh hell. Doctor, I thought the Angels couldn't move if they were directly watched."
But the Nyusi Angel had not only reached under the console while the other Angels were distracting everyone, he was climbing to his feet and reaching the power motor. "AT LAST I HAVE IT! IT IS ALL MINE!"
"Aren't you supposed to share?" the Doctor asked.
Just then a metallic voice boomed through the room. This must be Greenman. "Phrropox, the analysis shows the Array was completed successfully."
"DEATH to the others! DEATH to the War Quartet! DEATH to the Queen of the Angels! DEATH to all the vermin who ooze over the Majesty of TIME!" The Nyusi Angel turned to Jackie. "And death to a liquid sack like you! Do you have any idea how much the corpse whose voice I have hated you?"
"I'm going to suggest you didn't really know anything about him at all," the Doctor replied sternly.
The Nyusi Angel reached the power motor, while Cassandra successfully disentangled herself from the Angel on top of her and got to her feet. There was a power surge and sparks flew everywhere.
"I WILL BECOME THE MASTER OF DEATH! EVEN GODS WILL LOOK LIKE DUST COMPARED TO ME!"
The five non-Angels in the TARDIS were alarmed at this. Except for Phrropox. He chuckled. "Do you remember how the Doctor was able to trick two Angels into using their own powers against each other, using nothing but her screwdriver and whatever rubbish she could find in Manethysia? Well as it happens my employer had a similar scheme. And trying to absorb the TARDIS' power activates it." And suddenly the Nyusi Angel vanished along with the Angel near Cassandra and the six outside.
Phrropox and Cassandra immediately pointed their laser pistols at the Doctor. "Let's see Doctor," Phrropox mocked. "Two pistols pointed at you, and able to shoot you before you can reach for your sonic screwdriver." He adjusted a setting, and then turned his pistol and shot Cassandra.
"Greenman! There are still four Angels unaccounted for! Get me out of here!"
"Understood," said the metallic voice, and Phrropox vanished. The Doctor rushed to Cassandra's side, but the sophisticated virus infecting her was clearly a fatal one…
