Damon gave Stefan three weeks to settle down in his new surroundings, before taking him out shopping for school.
"Which backpack would you like?" Damon asked, holding two options up.
"I don't like any of them," Stefan whined. "I like my old bag!"
"They don't have those kinds of bags anymore, so you gotta choose a new one."
Stefan reluctantly agreed to the grey one that Damon was holding and they bought it, along with every other supply that might come in handy. Damon signed Stefan into the last grade of elementary school. There was only half a semester left, but Damon felt like it was important to get Stefan into a routine before summer break, so he could make some friends and be prepared for middle school.
So a week later, Stefan had his first day of school. Damon held Stefan's bag in one hand and his little brother's hand in the other. Stefan was nervous, that was clear, and Damon soothingly had to rub his thumb over the back of Stefan's hand.
"Remember that if you need anything, you just ask. People talk english here as well." Damon smiled and Stefan nodded. Damon stopped outside of a classroom.
"This must be it," Damon said, knocked on the door and walked in. The teacher looked at them and smiled kindly.
"You must be Stefan," She said. "Come on in Dear."
Damon knelt down in front of Stefan.
"Just behave, remember your manners and have fun. I'll pick you up in a few hours." He smiled. Stefan nodded and Damon handed him his back. Stefan walked into the classroom.
"So this is Stefan. He just moved here. Be kind and make him feel welcome. Stefan, why don't you take a seat next to the boy in the blue shirt?" the teacher smiled. Stefan nodded and sat down on the seat she had mentioned.
"Hi," The boy said. "I'm Jacob."
"I'm Stefan." Stefan smiled.
Stefan and Jacob hung out the entire day and got to know each other. They played videogames on their phones during the break, and Jacob showed Stefan around the school. Damon came to pick Stefan up at 1PM.
"Hey you," Damon smiled and ruffled Stefan's hair. "Did you have a good day?"
"Yes! I made a friend!" Stefan cheered. "His name is Jacob!"
"That's nice," Damon chuckled. He helped Stefan get in the car and buckle up. Stefan hummed in agreement.
"He's having a party next week because it's his birthday." Stefan said.
"Yea?" Damon asked. "Would you like to go?"
"I don't know yet." Stefan frowned. "I like being at home. Besides I know no one but Jacob. And he knows them all."
Damon nodded, knowing that Stefan had been an introvert most of his life. He wasn't great at making friends and mostly didn't have many of them but only a few close ones.
"Well you could suggest to Jacob that you could hang out one day just the two of you." Damon said. Stefan nodded.
"Maybe." He smiled.
