-A Month Later-
Konohamaru was deep in thought when he heard a knock on his door. *KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK* "Coming!" he called. He answered the door to find Naruto standing there. "Big Brother Naruto-I mean, Lord Seventh, come in!"
Naruto gave a small chuckle as he walked in the door. "Konohamaru, you don't have to be so formal with me. Please, sit down."
"How's Hinata?" Konohamaru asked, anxiously. He'd been worrying quite a bit. Training with team 7 had just resumed, and Boruto seemed exhausted. Sarada and Mitsuki did quite a bit of hovering around him, when they weren't running exercises.
"Hinata is doing much better, thank you. She should be out of the hospital soon, they're just running some more tests to verify the health of her internal organs, especially her heart and lungs. Most of the bruising has faded, other than her ribs, but if she takes it slow for awhile, she should be alright."
"Thank goodness." Konohamaru said. "I assume you're here for another reason then, Big Brother."
"Yeah." Naruto sat down and rubbed his hand over his face. "The thing is, I've done a lot of reflection on this, as well as constant meetings with the council. Included in that was a recent 5 Kage Summit, which I know was kept under lock and key, for reasons you will soon understand."
Konohamaru looked surprised. "Konohamaru, I need to talk to you about something very important now, so please bare with me." Konohamaru nodded. " I want-no, need-to step down as Hokage. My family needs me, and I have wanted a family my whole life. Being denied that as a child, I just can't take the idea that I could lose everything due to being Hokage. This recent terrorist attack has shown me how much my family does need me. And I need them."
Konohamaru nodded. "I understand completely."
Naruto looked at Konohamaru. "How do you feel about taking my place as Hokage?"
Konohamaru looked like he was going to throw up. "Really, Big Brother?! Are you sure?"
"The situation will be a little different for you. This is your dream, but you're quite young. So until you're completely trained up and ready to take over the mantel of Hokage, Lord Sixth, Lady Fifth, Shikamaru and myself are going to take shifts in the office, keeping up on Hokage duties and training you along the way. This should take about a year or so to complete. After all, I don't want to leave you with a stack of paperwork taller than this house! Also, Team 7 will need time to find a new sensei, of course."
Konohamaru looked shocked, to say the least. "Lord Seventh, I-I-I don't know what to say." He blushed crimson. "This is my dream...but it saddens me to see your dream come to an end."
Naruto grabbed Konohamaru's hands. "This WAS my dream. The dream at the crux of this dream was to have a family. I have a family, the best family. I want to give them everything, the whole world. I can't do that while I'm worried about a whole village."
Konohamaru straightened. "Understood. I'll do everything to make you and Grandpa Hokage proud, Big Bro Naruto." At least I have a little practice with inaugurations, he thought, laughing to himself.
