The next 7 or 8 chapters will all be one class on Magnus' schedule. ✨classes✨

MatH- Magnus P.O.V.

Such a nice way to start a day, with everyone's, and mine, least favorite class. Math. It's pure torture. At least I had it with Alex.

"I hate math." She said to me. Alex was a 'she' today.

"I do too, what 'bout you Mallory?" I asked. Just in case if you didn't know, I have all classes with Mallory.

"I like it. I was always the top student in elementary." She answered and walked inside Ms. Jankeloski's room. The teacher was ok, it's just the subject sucked.

Ms. J, as I call her, sits us my alphabetical order. My last name starts with C, and Alex's starts with F, but no kids in this class have a last name that started with D nor E,. which meant that I got to sit next to Alex.

"Ok, attendance!" Ms. J said.

"Mya Alvarez."

"Here" Mya said.

"Jake Alvarez."

"Here." Her twin answered.

"Magnus Chase."

"Present." I said, but more like squeaked. I had just got to slide into my seat just as she called my name.

"Alex- Fierro-" She sharply said both words of her name.

Ms. J didn't like Alex for many reason.

A) She had green hair.

B) She was gender-fluid/ trans.

C) And she was Alex.

Should I keep going?

"Here-" Alex sharply replied. She hated Ms. J as much as she hated her.

She kept going down her list and finally after what seemed like an eternity she read the last name off her list and submitted attendance.

"Ok class. Today we will be learning Order of Operations" She said, as she clicked onto her most loved PowerPoints.

"Take out your damn notebook." I whispered.

"I hate you." She said as she pulled out a 3 subject notebook used for math and math apps.

"Ok, so Order of Operations is when you have a expression like this" She said as she was writing 8 + 9 - 10 / 7 on the board.

"And you must know what order to solve them in. You all should have learned this in like 5th or 6th grade, we are just reviewing for the harder stuff we will be learning later on this week."

"I have no idea what this is." Alex whispered.

"Me neither, so shut up." I whispered back.

"The order is grouping symbols, exponents, multiplication/division and lastly subtraction/addition. In short, GEMS. Using GEMS, the answer to the question above would be 15.58." She explained, speed writing along.

(A/N: I learned GEMS in 5th grade so if you learned PEMDAS, oh well.)

"Write this down." She said and walked down to Alex.

"Are you writing this down?" She said, with her lips tightly pressed.

"Yes I am." Alex answered.

Ms. J then spun around and walked back toward the front of the room. She angrily wrote just about 10.

"I will give you some time to do these equations, you may do them in groups of two." She said and briskly walked to her desk.

We started working on the worksheet, we got through 2 and a half questions before the teacher started looking at exactly us.

"We- Well, since 9 and 4 are in parenthesis, we solve it first then add it to three, and la- lastly subtract 4 from the answer." I said, trying to be a good example.

"Aww, Magnus, all you need now is a pair of glasses, braces, and a pocket on your shirt and you'll be a completed nerd." Alex said.

"Oh, if your so smart, please, do the next question." I said, crossed my arms, and sat back.

It took her a good 2 minutes to do, and I don't even know if it's done correctly.

"I did it Mr. Chase. How did I do?" She handed it to me like the try-hard student handing the teacher a math paper.

I looked at the one question, and how I expected, it was 99.999 percent wrong. The only thing correct was the actual problem.

"It's literally all wrong. The only thing correct is the equation itself." I said, handing her back the paper.

"How? Tell me how?" She said.

"Did you not listen? First, you do the parenthesis. 9 divided by 3, 3. Exponents next, 3 to the second power is 9. 9 times 4 is 36. 36-4 is 32. How is the 9 worlds did you get 0?" I asked.

"Because 4-4 is 0. 3 to the second power is 9, 9 divided by 9 is 0. 0 x 1 is 0." She answered.

"Magnus Chase, go to the board where the equations are, please." Ms. J called.

"Bye Alex. Explain to Odin what happened." I whispered, as if it were the last minutes of my life, which it most likely were.

"Please solve number.. 6 on the board." She said. I looked at board, of course it was the hardest. It has 2 exponents, 2 different types of parenthesis and Odin knows how many multiplication and division expressions in it. It looked something like this: [9 x (8 / 4)-to the second power- ] + 9 /3 -3

I first did the parenthesis, 8 / 4 is 4, 4 to the second power is 16. 9 x 16 is 144. 9 divided by 3 is 3. 144 + 3 is 147 and 147 - 3 is 144.

"The, um, the answer is 144." I stuttered.

"That- that is correct Mr. Chase. Well done." She said, and gave me the first smile of the whole year.

"I am bowing, I am not worthy of sitting here, O Great Magnus Chase." Alex whispered as I sat back down in my chair.

"Oh shut up Alex. I, unlike you, listen to the teacher when she talks." I whispered back.

"Now, can Mya go up and do number 7 on the board.

The class did number 7 - 10 and by the time we were done it was time to go.

I was about to get up to leave, just as I remembered that it was 'A Day', I had Math Apps. How fun here for another whole class.

It was gonna be a long day.

I'm so sorry I haven't been updating, I have school. And school is a lot. Not a lot of time to write when you have 6 things due at 11:59 today. I'll try to find more time, but I probably won't. If you guys have like any questions you wanna ask me then do it in the reviews. Things I won't answer though: my name, age, living place, school, maybe grade. And you learned PEMDAS in this chapter, if you didn't already. If you thought what Magnus solved was hard, than you should see what we do in my math class. It looks like summoning the devil, LMAO. :)
