Ghosts Of Days Gone By
Truly Madly Deeply

"The greatest wrestling match ever? Dad, don't you think that's a bit extreme? Edge and Randy are two of the greatest of all time, but this puts an unbelievable amount of pressure on them." Summer was sitting with Vince going over the next chapter of the Edge and RKO feud. They were set to headline Backlash with the tagline 'The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever.'

"I think it's a great concept. It'll make people get invested into their feud."

"Dad, people are already invested in their feud. Just let them go out there and have a great match; no taglines, no pressure."

"Summer, you're not going to change my mind."

"Listen here:" Summer started, pointing a finger at Vince. "You made me in charge of Edge versus RKO. So, you need to keep your hands out of this feud. Things were going perfectly fine until this tagline bullshit."

"You better watch your mouth," Vince scolded.

"Or what?" The youngest McMahon child challenged. "What are you going to do?"

"I'll remove you from the role of Executive Director of RAW. You don't think I won't?"

"I'd like to see that happen. You would have wrestlers walk out left and right. You already had wrestlers wanting to get out of their contracts until I came along and made the environment less hostile. I am someone that the wrestlers can come to if they need to vent or want to run an idea by someone."

"You haven't done anything about the ratings boost," The Chairman countered. "What do you have to say for yourself on that?"

Summer scoffed. "You veto everything I do. I hand out scripts that the roster is happy with, but you always go and change things at the last minute. You haven't let me actually have a chance to change the show. How do you expect me to do something if you're constantly breathing down my neck and hovering over my shoulder?"

"I only change your scripts because you don't have any storylines that I like."

"It's kind of funny that the best storyline that we've had this year so far was the only one that you didn't tamper with." Summer was referring to the Edge versus RKO feud that she was solely in charge of.

"Since you claim to be so good at what you do, you'll find a way to make the 'Greatest Wrestling Match Ever' work out," Vince responded. "Good luck."

"I love you, Dad, I really do, but sometimes you can really be an asshole." With that said, Summer walked away from her Father. She couldn't believe she just called her Father a bad name, but if she was being honest with herself, he had it coming.

Summer knocked on the makeshift locker room of the Rated R Superstar. The door opened and Adam appeared right before her. "Can I come in please?"

"Sure." Adam scooted to the side so Summer could enter. He shut the door. Afterwards, he turned to look at Summer, his arms crossed over his chest. "What's going on?"

Summer placed her hands on her hips and shook her head. "I just had a fight with Dad."

"Over what?"

"Creative decisions."

"That's a shocker," Adam kidded. "You and Vince have never fought over creative decisions before."

"There's a first time for everything," Summer continued on with the kidding. "But, he decided to put his nose into your feud with Randy."

"You're shitting with me, right?"

Summer frowned. "I wish I was. But, he wants the tagline for Backlash to be 'The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever' featuring you and Randy."

"I know that Randy is an incredible wrestler and performer, but this is impossible. This is literally my first straight up wrestling match in nine years and this is the tagline they want to stick us with?" The Hall of Famer ran a hand through his hair. "Is he ribbing me?"

"I'm afraid not. I'm sorry, Adam. I know you and Randy are capable of having a five star match. Please go out there and show Vincent Kennedy McMahon that you are just as good as you were ten years ago. I have faith in you."

All Adam could do was bore his emerald green eyes through Summer's dark brown eyes. Summer had faith in his abilities, even almost ten years later. "You really think that I'm capable of putting on a five star match?"

"Of course. You have all the abilities. Now that WWE is way more wrestling oriented than nine years ago, this is the perfect time to showcase those abilities."

"When Backlash comes, be prepared for a five star match."

Summer smiled. "That's the spirit."

"I know that you're only doing your job, but I really appreciate the encouragement."

"Right now: I am talking to you as just plain ole Summer, not Summer McMahon - Executive Director of RAW."

"Plain ole Summer is my favorite," Adam smiled. Summer couldn't help the blush that was currently staining her cheeks in response.

Flashback

With her belongings in tow, Summer knocked on the door to Adam's motel room. Tonight would be the first night they were spending the night together. It had been two days since the Royal Rumble, where Summer admitted to Vince she'd been seeing Adam. Since she took that big step, he'd thought he match her and extend an invitation to her to spend the night with him.

A shirtless Adam answered the door. "Hey." He helped carry her belongings into the room. Her belongings were placed against the wall right beside his. "So, welcome to my motel room."

Summer took off her black peacock coat and her stiletto boots and laid them beside her bags. She observed the room. It was cute and simple. She was used to staying in humongous suites that Vince paid for. Why he thought she needed something so big, she had no idea, but she felt like she shouldn't complain if she wasn't paying for the room.

"This room is adorable."

"It's just a motel room, Summer. You've stayed in plenty of these before."

Summer sat down on the bed. "Dad usually reserves suites for me to stay in. This is my first time staying in an average motel room."

"If that's the case, you should've invited me to stay in your room instead," Adam teased, sitting down beside her on the bed.

"I come across as super high maintenance. I'm so sorry."

"There's nothing to be sorry for." He tucked her into his side and gave her a squeeze. "So, what do you want to do?"

"First: I would like to change into something more comfortable."

"No problem." Adam let go of her. "Do you want anything to eat? I can order room service."

"I'll take a fish and chips platter if they have that. And a diet coke or pepsi to drink with that please." She retrieved her pajamas and her toiletry bag and walked into the bathroom. Tonight would be the first time that Adam would see her in no designer clothes or no makeup. She hoped he would still be attracted to her when he saw her come out of the bathroom.

She brushed her hair, took off her makeup and wiped her face, brushed her teeth, and then changed into her pink pajama shirt and pink and black plaid pajama pants. Giving herself a once over, she exited the bathroom.

Adam had just ordered room service. He was taken aback when he saw Summer exit the bathroom. He'd never seen her without makeup and without her wearing designer clothes. This was a culture shock, but something that was certainly welcome. She was so naturally beautiful.

"I look horrible don't I?" Summer asked, snapping Adam out of his reverie. "That's why you're staring at me like that, aren't you?"

Adam shook his head. "No, no, you don't look horrible. It's just that I've never seen you without makeup and it literally took my breath away at how beautiful you look without it."

Summer blushed. "You think so? I was so nervous you would find me repulsive."

The Rated R Superstar approached Summer and placed his hands on her hips. "I could never think that about you." He placed a soft kiss onto her lips.

"You're super endearing." She rubbed his forearms.

There was a knock on the door. Adam went to answer the door. It was their room service orders. He got out cash from his sweatpant pocket and tipped the guy. "Thanks." He retrieved their food and brought it inside. "Dinner or midnight snack, whatever you want to say, is served."

Summer grabbed her food. "This smells delicious. Thanks for ordering room service. How much do I owe you for it?" She laid her plate and soda on the office desk so she could grab money from her purse.

Adam placed a soft grip on her shoulder. "There's no need for that. Since we're together, I will be paying for things for you without expecting you to pay me back."

"Really?"

"Yeah. That's how relationships work, right?"

Summer sighed. "I wouldn't know. I'm used to people only wanting to be around me because I have money."

"I'm sure that was tough to deal with." He grabbed his food and drink and sat down on the bed. Soon after, she was sitting down beside him, her food in her lap and her soda on the nightstand.

"Yeah, it was. But, I obviously won't have to deal with that anymore." She looked over at him and smiled.

How Vince didn't want her to be with Adam, she would have no idea. He was the realest person she knew.

Summer was leaving the Performance Center with Hunter. The two were taking the corporate jet to the Stamford headquarters. Vince called an emergency meeting and he expected everyone to meet bright and early in the morning.

"I can't believe you called Vince an asshole."

"He had it coming. I'm so tired of his attitude towards me. Sometimes, I think I'm adopted because I am nothing like him."

"Quite the contrary: I think you're just like him."

"What?" Summer scoffed. "Please tell me why you think that."

"You're very opinionated and hardheaded just like him. You want things done a certain way and get upset if anyone messes with it. That's why you two clash."

"Yes, I do get upset over the last minute script changes and with good reason."

"Vince gets upset with you because you are trying to change things and he doesn't want change. That's why he uses the same wrestlers for the big matches or has them stay in the main event picture."

"My job is to change things on RAW. What was the point of him offering me the position if he's not letting me change things?"

Hunter shrugged. "I'm not sure, Kiddo. But, I think you're doing a good job with the Edge and Randy feud. I know it has to be hard working with two of your exes especially when one that still has your heart."

"Nobody has my heart. I am completely over Adam and Randy."

"The way you look at him says otherwise."

"Who?"

"Edge... Adam."

Summer really did hate how transparent she was to her Brother-In-Law. "It's that obvious, huh? She sighed.

"I'm afraid so. But, don't worry. One day you're going to have that special someone and you're going to be like: Adam who?" He knew how much it hurt her to see everyone getting married and having babies and she wasn't even close to having that. She deserved to find happiness more than anyone else.

Summer laughed. "I can't wait for that day to come."
