Chapter 8

"Oh, shit, " Poseidon mumbled to himself. He was in the middle of an Olympian meeting when the realization dawned on him. Percy had disappeared three months ago, to the depths of Tartarus. They knew he was alive, well everyone who was in the order. Ares, Apollo, Athena, Poseidon, Hades, Dionysus, and Hestia were all a part of it making it one of the strongest rebellions to exist.

When Percy had left they thought that he might be gone for a day or two, to let off some steam but no one has seen him for months. Hestia was a nervous wreck and almost left until Hades calmed her down. Everyone thought it was the most ironic thing ever.

Poseidon was thinking about his son when the thought hit him, his daughter. To protect her from Zeus he sent her to Tartarus, but he made sure she wasn't alone. He gave her semi-immortality, allowing her to not age while she was down there, but she could still die. He had thought about her every day until Hades told him that a soul came from the pit but he wasn't sure if it was his daughter. He gave up hope and his daughter slowly began to fade from his mind.

He doubted she was still alive but if Percy could find anyone down there it would be Jayla. Now he could only wait until Percy came out to find out if he found her.

"Jayla," Percy said. "You ready?"

"I don't know. I mean I am ready to get out of this pit but am I ready to go to the world, no." Jayla was pacing around the hut with her backpack bouncing on her back.

"Jayla, it will be fine anyway I am going to do all of the talking." Percy could not wait to go back to the world. To him, it felt like he had been down here for only a few days but he knew better. He knew it had been months and he was ready to see how things had changed.

"Ok-ok," she said. She threw the hood of her black cloak over her face so that it covered her eyes. "Ready."

"Good, now remember, DO NOT give it away that Athena is on our side. We have had this planned out for months; we just never knew when to reveal ourselves. The goal was not to plan it so Athena could act shocked and for dramatic purposes." When Percy finished his sister was smiling mischievously. He had gotten her to join the case in a matter of hours after he explained why she was down here and what had happened up above.

Percy grabbed her hand and flashed her out of the Pit.

The pair arrived outside of the Empire state building. When they arrived Jayla gasped.

"Where in New York?"

"Ya, why," Percy asked.

"It's just the small fact that there are screens and people and fancy looking cars," she said, turning to face Percy. "Remember, born in 1923 and disappeared when I was 15."

Percy looked at her and he shook his head for being an idiot. He was going to apologize but Jayla shook her head in protest. So, he led her into the building.

"600th floor please," Percy said. The front desk man looked like he wanted to protest but Percy wasn't having it. He leaned over the desk and whispered, "let us through now.''

The front desk man could feel the power radiated by him and slowly nodded. He handed Percy a golden drachma and jerked his head towards the door. Percy led his sister to the elevators and pressed the 600th-floor button. As they moved up, pop music began to play.

"What is this crap," she asked.

'I don't know, they call it 'music'," Percy said with air quotations. Jayla let out a small laugh. Though she was amazed at how clean the music sounded.

When the elevator doors opened Jayla let out a small gasp. They were staring at Olympus.

"Ok. Hood on and don't freak out," Percy said.

"Why would I freak out -," Jayla stopped as a black and blue aura emitted from Percy. She suddenly felt the urge to bow to her brother. She looked at her brother in confusion. Even though they hadn't known each other for long, she knew her brother hated being bowed to but whatever he was doing made her want to get on a knee.

"Why are you doing that? I thought you hated people bowing to you?"

"It's a part of the plan we call 77 Valdez," he said.

"Why is it called 77 Valdez?"

"77 because we felt like it. Valdez because it is the most dramatic of our plans and Leo Valdez was one of the most dramatic of my friends," he said, barely being able to get the last part out. His mind started wondering about Annabeth. As he went into himself the area around him began to darken.

"Percy?" Jayla asked tentatively.

He shook his head and came out of his stupor. The area around him was dark but was beginning to lighten up.

"Sorry," he said, shaking his head. "I will have to explain everything one day but not right now. I don't think I could get it out."

Jayla looked at her brother in a curious but understanding look. She too had faced horrors in her life that she didn't know if she could share. She made eye contact with her brother and they both nodded in mutual agreement, one day.

They began to walk down the hills Olympus towards the palace. Jayla was amazed at what she saw, but she was even more impressed with the amount of respect Percy seemed to command. Everyone they came across bowed then went along with the daily business.

"Why are you doing this," Jayla asked.

"It makes sure everyone knows who I am. This means fewer interruptions and the Olympians are less likely to hear about before we want them to."

"Aren't you an Olympian?"

"Yes."

When Percy didn't respond Jayla took that as the end to the conversation.

When they finally arrived outside the throne room, Percy stopped once again lost in his memories. Jayla inspected the doors for a minute before realizing she had been here before when they had banished her to the Pit and the memories all came crashing back.

Flashback Jayla First POV

Where am I?

Why am I here?

Did I do anything?

I was lost in thought outside of the Olympian throne room. I had arrived moments before, for what I have no idea. All I knew is I had just lost my mom in a plane crash and was now orphaned. So here's how it all starts I guess.

So I am sitting in my room when I hear a knock coming from my aunt. She tells me to come downstairs and I reluctantlydo so. When I got downstairs I was blasted with the smell of the ocean, the only thing we lived in Oklahoma, nowhere near the ocean, sadly I might add.

When I enter the living room I see a man. He had jet black hair with sea-green eyes like me. The only difference, he has a perfect tan and my skin tone could pass for snow. I walk towards my aunt as she beacons me forward.

She clears her throat and then drops the bomb. "Jayla, this is your dad, Poseidon."

I was shocked for a moment then I did the only reasonable thing, I walked straight up to him, flashed my signature troublemaker smile, then punched him in the gut. I heard my aunt gasp and start yelling at me but I could care less. I turned on my heel and started walking out of the room. Then I couldn't move. I looked down and saw I was being restrained by seaweed. I turned around in anger and saw my dad, smiling. I thought I was about to get a whooping because sometimes speaking my mind earned me a spanking or two.

He releases the restraints and signals me over. I carefully walk over to him as he places a hand on my shoulder. I flinch remembering my stepdad.

"I see she inherited my temper," Poseidon said.

My aunt nodded at him respectfully and he pulled me into a hug. To put it lightly I was shocked. He smelled good, like all of the nice things in the ocean. He was wearing a loose t-shirt and khakis. I have to admit, I liked him already. Not yet, I told myself, you have had too many people leave you. I had to agree with the voice in my head so I wiggled out of the hug.

"Have you heard of Greek Mythology," Poseidon asked, I slowly shook my head no, then it all went down from there. Let me summarize.

In thirty minutes, I found out

My dad was a greek god Monsters will try and kill me all of my life I have two cousins of which are in a time-warping hotel My uncles want me dead (fun) AND I was about to be cast into the worst place imaginable

When my dad told me this he started to cry. I didn't understand why then, how bad of a place Tartarus was. He stayed silent for a few moments longer until a large boom of thunder came from outside. My dad turned to the sky annoyed, but then he turned back to me.

"Jayla, I want you to be able to survive for as long as you can in that pit but I have very little time. I am going to give you a semi-immortality. You won't age but you can still die. You will also need weapons but I don't have anything you could use so I give you a different kind of gift. You will have the ability to solidify water or any liquid for that matter into whatever you need. Fabric, weapons, other things, please use it well." He looked at my aunt in the last goodbye then hugged me one last time. This time it was different, coming away from it I felt more powerful than I did before. I looked him in the eye before we flashed away. He left me in front of the doors so that I could be let inside formally. Then he went into the throne room. I almost started to cry, I didn't know why I was here still. But then the doors opened.

I was brought out of my wandering by a nudge courtesy of Percy. When I looked in front of me, my breath hitched, I was back.

Third Person POV

The Olympians had just been discussing the location of the missing god when the throne room doors swung open. Standing in the door frame were two mortal sized beings both covered in black cloaks obscuring their face. One was taller than the other by a few inches but that wasn't the differentiating factor. One was emitting a black and blue glow. As the pair made their way to the middle of the room Zeus began to stand up, but ropes of seaweed and earth restrained him. The taller figure brought his hands up to his temples as if to send out a signal.

77 Valdez entered some of the gods' brains. Apollo, Poseidon, and Ares began to smile mischievously. The taller figure then began to pull back his cloak.

"Where the heck have you been," Zeus bellowed.

"Oh you know, planning the first successful revolution," Percy said grinning like a mad man.
