Fallout New Vegas: Companions and Perks

Ferocious Loyalty

Caesar had enough of the Courier's exploits against his Legion as his Frumentarii learned that it was Six who was responsible for taking down the Omertà leaders he bribed, eliminated the spy who wanted to bomb the monorail, made the Great Kahns break their alliance to him, and wiped out the garrison stationed at Nelson.

So he ordered a mass scale assault against the Courier and his Companions by sending 11 Centurions, 2 Vexillary, 15 Veterans, 10 Decanii, 20 Recruits and 30 Assassins to the outskirts of Vegas where Six and his Companions are located.

It was a difficult battle. Six and his entourage were barely holding out. Six was making desperate orders to each of his companions and even ED-E and Rex to go aggressive against them. Unfortunately he too was going to get overwhelmed by the number of shots the Legion had on him.

Boone tried to keep on maintaining a safe distance but was forced to rely more on his machete, Liberator, to repel the invaders to his space. Veronica was commanded by Six to use Two Steps Goodbye to her pleasure but she could tell that he ordered through desperation. Arcade was forced to act as the team medic seeing as he was Stimpaking everyone in Six's group. Cass was forced to multi-task between going melee and ranged as she barely blocked a Machete strike by a Recruit. Lily sprayed with her CZ57 Avenger but lately has been using Oh Baby because it was easier. Raul had to bow out of the fight to make quick repairs for the Companions' guns.

The battle looked very grim and it turns to be out the odds were in the Legion's favor. The glory would be for Caesar. One Centurion managed to hit Six in the shoulder with his Marksman Carbine. A Recruit slashed Six on the leg with his Machete. A Vexillarius used an Assault Carbine to shoot Six repeatedly in the chest. Then finally a Veteran used his Hunting Rifle to shoot Six in the head.

Six fell down and Cass, who was closest to Six, noticed Six falling down and managed to catch him. Holding the dying man in her arms, she screamed to her friends amongst the fighting. "GUYS! SIX IS HURT! I THINK HE MAY BE DYING! PLEASE HELP!"

One of the Centurions gloated. "So the Profligate finally dies and his whore comes crying to him! His death will honor us to Lord Caesar."

Seeing their friend and comrade dying and in their fellow Companion's arms, all of the Companions felt a primal urge within, even in ED-E who is a robot, to protect their leader. Their friend and their helper who aided them in their problems. To influence their choices. To mend their wounds (both emotionally and physically). And finally providing a better home to stay.

He was loyal to them. Listened to their thoughts and opinions. He was there for them when nobody would. He believed in them when even their own family wouldn't. He trusted them with his life and kept whatever secrets they shared with him to himself. He respected their choices (influenced by him) and supported them. He let them do whatever they pleased as long as they report to him.

He is the glue that holds them together. Despite opposing factions and personalities.

He has been loyal to them and they aim to repay it back.

It all started with Lily giving out a very terrifying cry of rage as she charged at the Legionnaires with a speed that can match a Cazadore and swing her Super Sledge at the first Recruit she sees and hits his head, killing him instantly. Followed by several puddles of goo courtesy of Arcade. Then Veronica punched a Veteran in the face and kicked him away, knowing that the Critical kill she made would kill the surrounding Veterans near him. Raul used his Lead Pipe named The Humble Cudgel to knock out the one remaining Vexillarius and then used Medicine Stick to shoot the other Assassins.

Boone's mind suddenly went Commando as he issued out commands with the voice strength of an officer. "Cass, look after Six. Grandma Lily, keep smashing the Legionnaires. Arcade keep Six healed up. Veronica, assist Lily in taking out the Legionnaires. Raul, back me up. ED-E and Rex, stay and guard Six."

Everyone obeyed his commands knowing that he is the de facto leader of this entourage.

Cass sat on the ground, gently placed Six's head on her leg and pulled out Pacienca to shoot the two Assassins attempting to stab Six.

ED-E and Rex proved to be a deadly duo as the Legionnaires found out the hard way that Rex is a fierce Protector and viciously ripped their throats put. ED-E made precision perfect shots at their faces and soon these two made a devastating blow to their ego. While chasing the Legionnaires, ED-E shot 8 Assassins while Rex killed 6 Assassins while Lily and Veronica handled the rest of them.

As for Veronica, she was repeatedly punched the life out of the Centurions and the Veterans. Lily got shot a bunch of times but it only angered her as she retaliated by grabbing a nearby Veteran and throwing him to a Centurion whose head was immediately smashed by her Super Sledge. Veronica blocked several Recruit machete strikes and immediately Scribe Countered them, proving to them that she isn't some woman they can trifle with.

Some Centurions attempted to shoot them but Boone shot them in the head. Raul also proved to be a good shot by having his fair share of kills with Medicine Stick. One Recruit got close to Boone but Raul shot him. Boone repaid the favor by shooting a Veteran sneaking behind Raul.

Meanwhile, Cass was holding Six as she sobbed out. "Six please..don't die...these guys here need you...I need you..hell even the NCR, Brotherhood, the Khans, the Boomers and even all the towns you helped out need you! Please, I know you're tougher than this! You can make it! You MUST make it! Without you, we wouldn't stand a chance against the Legion." She gently cupped Six's cheek with one hand.

She noticed Arcade with a Doctor's Bag and a bunch of Stimpaks coming to them and called out to him. "Doc! Six is dying! Help him out! Please!"

Arcade tried to maintain composure as he stammered a bit. "I'll do what I can." Using a Doctor's Bag, he fixed Six's legs and stitched up the cuts on them. Using a Stimpak and a Whiskey given to him by Cass, he worked on Six's arms and temporarily healed them. Then he used the tools within the Doctor's Bag to CAREFULLY pull out the bullet in Six's head, knowing that he'll survive because Six had been shot in the head once by Benny and survived thanks to Victor and Doc Mitchell.

Wiping the sweat off his forehead, Arcade tells Cass. "I stabilized his wounds but he needs medical treatment. We're near the New Vegas Medical Clinic, Doctor Usanagi can help him. Help me carry Six." Cass nodded and they carried Six to Doctor Usanagi.

Arcade orders her. "He needs help now!" Usanagi nodded and ordered her guard to carry Six to an operating table.

Meanwhile outside of the clinic, Boone, Raul, Lily, Veronica, Rex and ED-E kept on killing the Legionnaires. Rex and ED-E made short work of the Decanii trying to kill them. The other Companions made a defensive shooting position around each other and shot the Legionnaires charging at them to bits with the help of ED-E and Rex killing a Recruit that got close enough.

The remaining Centurions realized that by nearly killing the leader Six, it only encouraged the Companions to lay down their lives for him and literally fight to the death. They realized that the Companions have become frenzied and have quadrupled their efforts in pushing them back.

The Centurion declared. "These damned Profligates are pushing us back! Retreat! Retreat!"

His fellow Centurion warned. "Lord Caesar will not be pleased of this defeat and the failure of the mission." Only for a Centurion next to him got shot in the head from a .308 round from Boone.

The two remaining Centurions ran away while Lily shouted at the. "You naughty children ran away from your punishment! That will teach you to hurt my babies! If we ever see you again, Leo will give you such a nasty padding, you won't be able to sit at all!"

Boone wiped the sweat off his forehead and looked around the scene. They were outnumbered and outgunned but all it took was Six being severely injured to turn the odds against them.

Boone declared tiredly to his fellow Companions. "Guys, we won."

Veronica cheered. "Wooh! We showed these Legionnaires that we kicked their butts! And only a handful of us I might add!"

Raul chuckled. "I admit, Boss getting injured really gave these old bones a boost. I may be really old but I can still put up a fight."

Lily said with concern. "We should go see Jimmy. See if he's getting better, those bad people hurt him really bad."

ED-E and Rex beeped and barked in agreement.

They went inside the clinic were they saw Cass sitting on the couch, hunched. She explained to them that Arcade and Usanagi are working on Six right now. So they waited for 5 hours and then finally Usanagi told them the good news.

Six will survive.

Everyone ran to the operating table where Six lay, bandaged. Finally Cass declared. "Six, you were badly hurt and we were all worried you're gonna die. But I think I speak for everyone here when I say that pushed us to drive the Legion back that got us surrounded. We were outnumbered and I saw you getting gunned down and slashed repeatedly. Six, I'm glad you're okay and I'll take on the entire Legion by myself to save you."

Boone seconded. "I'm with Cass here."

Raul said. "I'm with you all the way Boss."

Veronica piped in. "I'll punch a Deathclaw, a Super Mutant, a Cazador, and even Legionnaires if you tell me to."

Lily said in a soothing voice (if it is soothing by Mutant standards). "Grandma will protect you from bad people that will hurt you."

Arcade nodded. "You consider the needs of others before yourself and you help out those in need. I am willing to follow you and obey your commends."

ED-E and Rex joined in through their beeps and barks.

Six smiled. "Thanks guys for standing by me. I promise you, I won't forget this loyalty and I will never break it."

At the Fort, Caesar was very furious at the two surviving Centurions and had them crucified for their ill-fated attempt to ill the Courier. He didn't take in account the bonds the Companions have with the Courier.
