Shadows Chapter 6: "Beautiful Yet Broken"
So, I updated the summary and picture to hopefully make this story look more exciting...yeah. Though I do much prefer this cover art over the old one. I'm much better at drawing MLB characters now, so no more crap. XD
LunaWolf44: Lol, Lie-la really does suck. Also, I REAAAAAALLY hope Marinette will get akumatized in season 4. I still can't believe Chat Noir will apparently die though... ;-; Also, I did start watching Rescue Riders, but I'm still on the first episode. (I'm almost done with it though) It looks good! :D
HayamiHinata: Thank you so much! :3
Enjoy everyone! Oh, and this is a flashback chapter into Gabriel's past, because even though I want to strangle him sometimes, I do feel bad for him...I REALLY want for there to be a flashback episode in S4...I WANNA KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO EMILLIE AAAAAAAAHHH!
Also you might see in later chapters some Felix and Lila bonding...I just hate both characters...BUT I LOVE THEM SO MUCH WHEN THEY'RE SHIPPED...LILIX! lol.
Warning: This chapter is very sad. Very very saaaaaaaaad. ;-;
One year ago...
Adrien sat on his bed, holding a small notepad in his hands. Felix, who had come over to visit, bounced eagerly next to him.
"Whatcha drawing?" He asked.
Adrien showed it to him, "Just a family drawing." (A/N, also adding some backstory for that drawing we saw a faint glimpse of in The Collector. Yes, I pay attention to detail. And yes, I will leave now)
"Cool. Their heads look like eggplants though."
Adrien shoved him playfully, "Well, at least mine don't look half as terrible as yours!" He joked, pushing the notepad aside, "Why don't we play chess?"
"Sure." Felix agreed, searching the shelves inside Adrien's room, "Where did you put the chess board?"
"It's in the drawers inside the game room," Adrien replied. Felix ran outside just as Emillie came in.
"Hey kiddo." She smiled, messing up his hair with a hand.
"Hey mother." Adrien smirked, "Felix is downstairs getting the chess board. I'm going to beat him again." He snickered.
"Well, you better not get too good at it. Wouldn't want you beating me now, would you I?" She chuckled. Adrien watched as she walked out of the room, bumping into Felix, who had just returned.
"Oh! Sorry Felix." She said, exiting the hallway and going downstairs. Felix walked inside, setting up the pieces on a nearby table.
"Black or white?"
"Black. I felt like it just always suit me better." Adrien shrugged, "Kinda brings out my eyes."
"Dude, you aren't wearing the chess pawns." Felix rolled his eyes at his overeager cousin. They started playing, and soon, the game was over. Needless to say, Adrien won.
"You always win." Felix complained, resting his cheek on his palm. Adrien did a small happy dance, "Ha!"
"How do you always win?!" Felix asked, still a bit upset that Adrien had effortlessly beaten him.
Adrien told him, "I dunno...I guess you just need to be more...manipulative? Is that the right word?" He shook it off.
"More manipulative..." Felix repeated, blinking.
Meanwhile...
"We can't go out in this weather." Emillie frowned at her husband.
"Oh come on, we'll be fine, take a risk for once, Emillie." Gabriel told her. They were inside the living room, sitting on two blue chairs, "This fashion shoot is one of our most important yet. Everyone will be so disappointed if we don't attend."
"I'm sure they'll understand. And we could reschedule it on better day." Emillie argued.
"It will be fine." Gabriel insisted. He took out a box from behind him, "Why don't we carry these with us just in case?"
Emillie's eyes widened, "Our miraculouses? Well, I guess we could..." Her voice trailed off as she thought of something, "You still haven't told Adrien yet, have you?"
"Tell him what?"
"You know..." She looked him in the eyes.
Gabriel sighed, he admitted, "No, I haven't told him about the miraculouses yet. I was planning on waiting a little. We still don't completely understand their superpowers." He rubbed the butterfly miraculous pin with a finger as he handed Emillie the peacock miraculous.
"I think that if we merge them, we could get a wish, but the wish doesn't work if one of the miraculous is broken." Emillie said. She rested her head on his shoulder, "What more could I possibly wish for than to have you by my side?"
Gabriel blushed, "We...should really get going." He got up, looking around the mansion, "Nathalie?"
"Yes sir?" Nathalie emerged from the corner of the room holding a clipboard.
"Escort Adrien to the car. Ask if Amelie and Felix want to come too."
Nathalie pushed up her glasses, "Sure thing." A minute later, she came back with Adrien.
"Amelie said she had work to do, and Felix is trying to catch up on schoolwork." She informed him.
"Fine. He motioned towards Emillie and Adrien, "It's just us then."
Emillie warned him, "Please be careful."
"Don't worry, Emillie. I won't let anything bad happen to you. I promise."
She smiled, "Okay."
They got into the car.
"I think we take a left from here, right?" Gabriel asked, not being able to see through the thick fog.
"Uhh..." Emillie started, "I thought we went straight..."
The car started getting faster.
"Maybe we should slow down." Adrien suggested. Gabriel calmly pressed his foot down on the brake pedal. Confused when the car didn't slow down, he pressed it again, realization dawning on him.
"WAIT! I can't control the brakes!" He panicked, not being able to even see where he was going. The car zigzagged past three orange cones.
"Isn't this a restricted area?!" Adrien cried.
Gabriel didn't respond, trying to turn the car around, but it didn't work. Adrien screamed as the car toppled over.
CRASH!
The 13 year old gasped, getting up. His heart beat rapidly inside his chest as he heard the sound of police car and ambulance sirens. A man in a blue police uniform helped him up.
"Are you okay?"
"Where's-" His voice was cut off as he heard coughing beside him. Another officer was helping up his father. Emillie was nowhere in sight.
"Are you okay?" The officer asked again.
Adrien ignored him, turning pale as a medical assistant lifted a piece of metal to reveal Emillie's lifeless form. He tried to let out a terrified wail, but his father best him to it.
"Emillie!" Gabriel screamed, rushing towards her. To officers held his arms.
"Let me go!" The fashion designer snapped, though the police had no interest of letting him go. He watched as they lifted Emillie onto a wheeled stretcher and started rolling her into the ambulance.
— Time Skip—
"Sir, with all due respect, you do know that she probably won't ever wake up, right?" The nurse whispered, standing in front of the man inside the hospital. Emillie lay motionless on a hospital bed.
"Yes, but you told me she's alive." Gabriel growled, "That's why I came."
"Y-yes." She stuttered, taking a few steps back, "But her body is alive. Not her mind. She's in a coma, one that she will most likely never wake up from."
"No..." Gabriel sputtered, his mind racing. He longed to believe that Emillie was still in there somewhere. That she would wake up. That they would be together again.
He made a promise.
"I-I..." Gabriel couldn't say anything else. He wouldn't pull the plug on her. There was no way. Even if she wasn't there, she was. And Gabriel would cling onto every shred of hope there was.
She had to be alive. She had to. What would he tell Adrien? Nathalie? What about Amelie?! What would she say?! And Felix?
He didn't even want to know.
Days passed, though they felt like weeks. Seconds felt like minutes, hours like days, weeks like months, months like years. Every moment that passed was just another moment without Emillie. Eventually, he got Emillie transferred into the mansion, where he could keep an eye on her. Sometimes he even talked to her. He even got a bodyguard to prevent another accident. He grew colder and colder, the darkness in his heart spreading. Amelie had demanded that Gabriel gave her Emillie's ring, but he refused to do it. After that, Amelie had left and taken Felix with her, departing without a word as to why, though Gabriel knew that they both knew the reasoning behind that. He held the butterfly miraculous in his hands, as well as the peacock one, beautiful yet broken.
Once, one the news, there had been a small section where Nadja had interviewed a small 'brave' family about surviving a natural disaster, and what it was like.
He laughed bitterly. Yeah right. If anyone was brave, it was Emillie. Yet no one even cared. Well guess what? Gabriel didn't either. Emillie was the only thing that mattered to him, of course, not counting Adrien or Nathalie.
'It's their fault' He thought, 'they should have taken better care of her. The ambulance should have come earlier. Emillie might even be here right now. They're all morons. Every single one of them. Emillie should have lived.'
He squeezed the butterfly miraculous, "I'll make them PAY. And there's no way I'm breaking my promise. I'll bring Emillie back if it's the last thing I do." He spread his arms inside his lair, "Nooroo, Dark Wings rise."
Ooop. That was intense.
Don't forget to review, follow, and fav! :) ;D
